Sunday Chat
Saturday, June 14th, 2014 09:07 pmSalad Server Whitelist Changes
Pause read fanficton on stream!!! And it wasn't even on Salad. Apparently there's fic on wattpad. It's official. The kinky people hang out on wattpad.
More like saturday chat but by the time you see this it'll probs be sunday in some part of the globe. give this 10 mins for nz at least. But who even cares I'm the one who posts this thing and I have lots of things to talk about so sue me.
Not really gonna talk about events in salad or Mindcrack today. Instead, I've got some more general and even a couple of meta things to talk about. So here we go. (Also, happy b-day, Kurt!)
Let's start with the short and sweet stuff. I just want to start off by saying congrats to some of the members who joined between the 150 and 200 member mark as reading some of their fics, I'm starting to see a good amount of improvement in fic quality from people such as
purplesky which is really great. It's good to see people's writing improve and is a good bit of inspiration for some of our newer members and shoes that a bit of effort and practise really can make a difference. :D Keep up the writing
Still on the short side, just a reminder that people properly tag posts. If it's fiction, use the fanficton tag, if it's something else, look in that tag to see what kind of things are posted to that tag before adding that tag. Make sure that when you add the tag, it's spelled and worded exactly as in the sidebar otherwise it won't be added. And on correct tag usage, when tagging Mindcrackers, don't go overboard with the tags. The tags are used to find fics about those people, not people who have a one sentence mention. I recommend keeping it to the main characters in that fic. And if you want to be super helpful with the SFP, no more than 4 character tags. Tagging is good, but don't go overboard. Also make sure you're appropriately adding age-restriction barriers such as nsfw and 18+ where appropriate.
More on the short things, in a recent livestream Seth mentioned that he has recorded sans pants before. Other Mindcrackers have also mentioned this in the past. What are your thoughts on this? Any prompty fic ideas come out of it?I love it but shh I didn't say that okay.
Now onto the meta stuff: Salad Mentions:
In the recent podcast the salad, or more specifically, the mindcrack fanfic site was brought up with promises of linking Sevadus to it after the podcast. As of late, Vechs has also made plenty of salad mentions, and t has been talked about by various mindcrackers a lot more than it used to be. This got me thinking and I wanted to talk about it here.
What do you guys think about the more common mentions of salad by mindcrackers? To some extent they're good in directing more members towards mindcrack fanficton which can be good, but making a bit of a name for ourselves does have other connotations. TBH, some part of me is a little uncomfortable about the salad mentions, especially from people like Vechs who seem to mention it at least every other week or more as of late. I feel like some of that taboo about real person fiction and the main unspoken rule about not showing them the rpf fic is being impeded on and I also kind of wonder what kind of audience those mentions are bringing to salad and wonder if all these mentions may soon start to direct trolls in out direction. It is great that mindcrack is generally so accepting of fanfiction and in some cases, openly encourages it which is a luxury many other fandoms don't have, but I kinda feel like salad is the kind of thing better kept hush-hush about - more of a question whispered between strangers in the dark or exchanged under the quiet of private message. Do you think salad should be openly mentioned? How do hearing those mentions make you feel?
And a continuation of this? At's now becoming more known that mindcrackers and such still read some of the fics on here with some of them such as Aurey and Vechs actively seeking out fanfiction of themselves. How do you feel about mindcrackers lurking on here? Which mindcrackers that aren't so open about it do you think lurk on here. If you yourself reading this post somehow find yourself to be a lurking mindcracker, are you willing to make an account or an anonymous post with maybe a vague tweet or something to show that you are in fact lurking and not a figment of our imaginations? What do you think makes the mindcrackers want to read the salad? If you are a mindcracker, feel free to tell us. I wonder if they do it because it's amusing like a good joke or a bad pun, do they do it merely out of curiosity, or do they merely enjoy fanfiction in the same way that many of us do - as an exploration of people we know and like doing interesting and adventurous things in a fictitious setting that they don't normally do?We don't need to mention the smut but you can if you want.
Lots of questiony thing and stuff to talk about here today. Anyways, enjoy your SundayI :D
Alpaca.
