Good lord, am I nervous.
First off, a thank you to the kind person (I won't drop names, but you know who you are) who pointed me this direction. I am most appreciative. :D
Anyways, I come seeking consultation. At the risk of sounding like a broken record (I reiterate this in the links below,) there's a lot of stuff I don't know, and I'd love to have a few 'experts' whom I can 'annoy' for information and assistance. It's this particular fan community I wish to write this fanfic for, and I want to give this project due diligence.
Fanfic Pitch Dossier - Please read this first. Warning: Massive Wall of Text (chances are, you guys can handle it. <3) Edit: Don't panic. This is just preparation. Thank you.
Update: Prologue Beta is completed, more or less. Please let me know what you think and don't be afraid to offer suggestions. Thank you for the help so far, guys! :D
So, I kindly ask that instead of tomatoes, please throw me a few bones to work with. I look forward to your suggestions and help, and all of you have my thanks in advance.

Date: Saturday, May 25th, 2013 06:13 pm (UTC)I like the concept a lot, reminds me a bit of Death Race. I've been pondering the question of why the Mindcrackers would sign themselves over to this. Perhaps some sort of misdirection - ie they thought they were signing something else; blackmail; coersion/threats; maybe even appealing to simple greed. Or all of those could be used on different guys.
A reason for why - a rival server, perhaps? With the mysterious woman in charge. Not enough to simply take down her rivals, by making them all suspicious of each other and forcing them to fight, with the world watching, the idea is to break down their friendships and tarnish their legacy, leaving them nothing to come back to. Simply bumping them off would make them.. not martyrs exactly, but beloved victims. Hey, and if you can make a boatload of money selling tv rights to the whole thing, more the better. Gaining the signed contracts is a clever loophole that means nothing she's doing is illegal - or at least nothing that a few well-placed bribes won't cover.
(Plot twist: there is no traitor. That was just a lie to make them all paranoid.)
Of course, any or all of this may not fit with things you have in mind. And as you may have noticed, I ramble a bit. :P

Date: Saturday, May 25th, 2013 06:27 pm (UTC)A rival protectorate/server does sound plausible, but it's kind of going over my head why a member protectorate of the Vanali Federation would attack what may be the faction's flagship protectorate?
Maybe it's a protectorate that recently seceded or a protectorate of Vanali expatriates? What might be their reason for risking weakening the VPF just to take out the Mindcrack Protectorate?
And don't worry. Rambling is okay. :D

Date: Saturday, May 25th, 2013 06:25 pm (UTC)You poured your heart and soul into just this small write up, didn't you?
Let me just start by saying welcome to the community and offering a small piece of advice: Don't worry so much. Everyone here is very open-minded and accepting, and with that much thought into just the premise of a fiction, you're likely to win over a lot of allies.
That being said, I find this idea exciting and phenomenally well planned, and would be more than happy to assist where I can.
This is AMAZING.

Date: Saturday, May 25th, 2013 08:05 pm (UTC)Random thoughts/ideas:
Can't have PVP without Anderz :D he'd be a really good one to get in there. Only issue would be the impressive amount of cuss words he can use in a single sentence.
Baj would be a good voice of reason in here since you have the others he is usually with (Guude, Beef and Pause). He's older, his usual UHC skin is an army one (army ranger? not sure of the exact one) and he's often the one to bring some sense in cases where the others are emotionally involved. An ex-army guy come to Minecraftia with the intention on having a nice farm before the Seperation wars but ended up joining with Guude and then afterwards he gets his nice little farm with the windmill and endless fields of wheat.
Millbee is a tough one, a talking rainbow sheep. I'm not even sure how to get him in. It would involve Pause somehow.
Nebris is a real toughie when it comes to pvp battles, he has history with Etho and MC thanks to the death games Etho instigated between them. If something similar happened in this fic before the events, then its possible they'd look upon Etho with some suspicion.
Since you mentioned the Tron guys for villain outfits, I thought of something else you could possibly pull from it. Or two. The de-rezzing thing. When a death occurs, the body derezzes. Initially the others are confused, they've never seen the like before in their days in Minecraftia. But then it comes to light that they are being kept in some kind of pods with their consciousnesses in a virtual world. Why? Because killing off people who draw in such vast amounts of money would be pointless. Keep them alive in the real world and they can be profited from, again and again. Just an idea :3
Another idea. The whole thing with CLU from Tron. What if during Guude's incarceration with the Moderans they acquired some of his DNA and attempted to replicate themselves a powerful soldier? And this replica is the one running the games? Silly perhaps, it just came to me.
Okay thats all I can think of off the top of my head.

Date: Saturday, May 25th, 2013 09:21 pm (UTC)Baj: British. Seems a bit gruff at first impressions, with a very dry, sarcastic sense of humour and a sharp wit. Actually really nice and funny when you get to know him. Famous mustache. Also famous for watching wheat grow and almost starving to death in UHC, which no-one has ever let let him live down. Creative use of language, particularly when frustrated. ('Oh... Brian Blessed on a bicyle!' is one of my favourites)
Anderz: Swedish Viking. His dyslexia and funloving, sometimes derpy personality contrast with his berserker fighting skills. Like the Vikings of old, would rather die in battle, with honour. Swears a lot, but not for shock value, just his manner of speech.
Millbee: (Other than being a talking rainbow sheep) Welsh. Likes to have fun, takes the mickey out of things, very silly sense of humour, but will not hestitate to let you know, explicitly, if you tick him off. Very expressive, a lot of hand and facial gestures. Also swears a lot. Goes back a lot with Pause.
Nebris: Known as 'cheaty' but not actually a bad person. Would be a good character if you need to aquire something that fell off the back of a lorry. Likes shiny things, especially glowstone. Friend of MC.

Date: Sunday, May 26th, 2013 01:39 am (UTC)Ah, our MC. Sometimes a bit scatterbrained and exciteable but very mature for his age, always wanting to help other people (he does a lot for charity). Despite usually flailing around a bit, he's actually very good in a fight, and loyal to the people who stick by him. Has something of a comfortable domestic streak, in a group he'll be the one gathering food, making beds and making sure everyone eats. (Cobblehaters is the best example of this). Looooooves anything to do with the Zelda series and has an almost encyclopeadiac knowledge of them (could subststute well as some kind of eclectic research).
Oh, additional: his name is Matthew, but he prefers MC.
If you want something to make you laugh and get some pretty good insight for MC and Millbee, check out 'Orange Wool' if you haven't seen it.

Date: Sunday, May 26th, 2013 10:55 pm (UTC)Oh! And for BTC's loadout: -this- [http://fav.me/d2ht7ps] is what comes to mind when I see his skin, skull makeup and all. He must have been as terrifying see on the battlefield as Etho and Pause.
That said, I realized early on (a given, considering there are 27 confirmed Mindcrack members) that this story was going very much feature an ensemble cast... and from my own experiences, writing for an ensemble cast is tricky. I can only put the spotlight on so many people at a time, and some of the guys may wind up only getting secondary and/or passing roles. I don't want that to happen, but for the sake of the story and the pace I hope to establish... squeezing a few of the guys off the stage may wind up being a necessary evil. My apologies to the fans of the castmembers in advance.
That said, if you are following my WIP document, I feel like I have too many guys in the arena already, so I may have to shuffle the roster about and kick a few 'Crackers into the 'Dectective' column. I would still like a little input on who should be in the arena and who should be left uncaptured/free to to figure out what's really going on, simply because that knowledge will affect how I'm going to write the next chapter.
On a different note: Vechs. I somehow got it into my head that Vechs is a very notorious Moderan Ex-pat and one not well liked by a few of the existing members of the Protectorate (especially Baj, Zisteau, and Paul Soares.) He must have given the Vanali a hell of a lot of trouble when he was fighting on the Modera side of the Severance Wars, but got kicked out of Modera for some reason (perhaps fairly recently in this story's historical timeline) and wound up finding amnesty somehow in Mindcracker territory. What do you guys think?
no subject
Date: Monday, May 27th, 2013 03:07 pm (UTC)I think the reason Vechs would've been kicked out from Modera is for a similar reason to Doc - his experiments (mostly in weaponry and such), have gotten more and more dangerous and Modera began to worry that he'd become a problem. He recieved amnesty due to some friendships with some former Modera members. Maybe he helped Boo and Guude escape?
ETA: Oh yeah, and Ads is detective. He's another non-PvPer
