I realized that I hadn't done anything for Femmeslash February yet, and obviously had to correct that mistake immediately. So, double drabble feature, both centered around sleep because... I thought of them while I was trying to get to sleep, probably. First up, Single Malt. Second up, Team Canada OT3. The only name I changed was Kurt J Mac to Kit J Mac. As cute as the "Skirt J Mac" thing is, I can't imagine calling someone Skirt for an entire fic. Hope it's not too confusing.
Kit could never think of the right animal. Zisteau always curled into a ball to sleep, and without fail it reminded Kit of something. Each night she considered a new species and each morning she tossed it out. It wasn't like a wolf, even though Zisteau pressed protectively close. It wasn't like a cow, even though sometimes Zisteau snorted in her sleep. It wasn't like a cat, even though sometimes Zisteau nudged up against her affectionately, and her snoring sometimes sounded like a low purr. But there was something endearingly raw about the way Zisteau carried herself, an instinctive verve that showed through even more in her sleep.
It didn't bother Kit, after a while. She could appreciate her girlfriends inherent Zisteau-ness without quite understanding it. Whatever it was, Kit was grateful: Zisteau was always curled on her side, which left Kit to spoon comfortably without worrying about her height. She was a full head taller than Zisteau, tall and lanky as ever. But she found she preferred to be in a position to take the lead. Zisteau was much better at communicating, and much less likely to get too nervous and have to take a break. Kit appreciated Zisteau being understanding of her anxiety, but she much preferred it didn't have a chance to interfere. And she strongly suspected Zisteau liked feeling pampered.
This particular morning was much the same. Zisteau was curled up, snug in Kit's arms. Chickens were clucking, and the sun had started making patterns on the observatory walls. But it wasn't nearly time to get up; they'd stayed up late stargazing and talking sci-fi over scotch.
Zisteau rolled over. "Good morning," Kit said, rubbing Zisteau's back.
"Mornin'", Zisteau grunted back.
Kit yawned. "What time is it, you think?"
"Too early," Zisteau said, and tucked her head under Kits chin. Kit chuckled and shifted her arms to drape one over Zisteau's waist. Zisteau kissed her collarbone, and got a gentle squeeze in return. Then she kissed her neck. Kit gasped softly, tilting her head to expose her neck a little bit more. She pulled Zisteau's waist a little closer, and gulped. At the next kiss, this one lingering, Kit slung one leg over Zisteau's hips, hugging her tight. Zisteau nuzzled Kit's neck and slipped one leg between the gap in Kit's thighs. They interlocked, and then they laid like that. Still and so close, they drifted back to sleep.

Having two girlfriends has its drawbacks. Pause was a blanket hog, and if Beef and Etho tried to take them back from her, she would accuse them of trying to freeze her to death. If they huddled together for warmth, however, she'd accuse them of leaving her out. The working solution was to cuddle up to her, Etho on one side and Beef on the other, until she got too hot and gave the blankets up of her own free will.
When Etho was in the middle, they ended up spooning. Pause, tall and athletic, was the big spoon, reaching out just enough to hug both of them. Etho found it most comfortable to situate herself between them, smaller and lankier and much more likely to get a chill. Beef was the perfect space heater to cling to, her thick hair brushing the top of Ethos forehead.
But usually, Beef settled between the other two in the end. This made blanket management a bit easier: Pause got her own, and Etho got her own, and Beef, who was prone to overheating, could have as much or as little as she wanted. It was comfy as could be: Etho wrapped up on one side, smiling and pressing her head over Beefs heart; Pause on the other, pressed into her side with one leg curled on top of hers. Having two girlfriends has its perks.

Date: Monday, February 25th, 2013 01:30 am (UTC)You beat me to it, darn you.Although, the absence of gender flipped names (aside from Kit) did throw me off at first. When you said you only changed that one name, I thought you meant changed from the "accepted" genderbent names. Zisteau's lady version even has a decent name: Zistette. Granted, "VoluptuousBeef" and "PauseUnbras" are a bit harder to work with.

Date: Monday, February 25th, 2013 02:23 am (UTC)"So, Voluptuous Beef. We meet again."
"Oh no, it's Pause Unbras! The international Lingerie thief!"
"Not so fast, Voluptuous. I've brought backup. So why don't you just... pause for second, and watch her work."
"What? Who is this master thief?"
"...You're watching Guude BoulderTits."

Date: Monday, February 25th, 2013 02:33 am (UTC)I so need to incorporate this somehow. The lady versions of Nancy Drew will be thieving master troublemakers, and regular Nancy Drew will have to solve the mystery. Oh my god this is so perfect.
