Chapter Six
Kingdom of Illian, Minecraftia. September 8, year 573. Time instance 483Z.
Samuel awoke early that next morning and came outside to find Shred already awake, beginning to pack up her tent that she shared with Nia. Nia was sitting a few feet away, clearly still half-asleep. The others showed no signs of being awake yet, and that suited Samuel just fine. The less commotion, the less likely Tranpar was to wake up early. He preferred it when Tranpar slept in.
He lowered his voice and spoke quietly to Shred. “Would it perhaps be possible for us to…tag along? Tranpar really wants to and I’ve been missing the company of people closer to my own age as well. We wouldn’t be any trouble and I could look after Tranpar.”
Shred looked at him oddly. “You’re honestly better than most of the other idiots tagging along, and you might be able to help keep Tarsen in check. He’s a serious creep.”
“I noticed.”
“Welcome aboard, then.” Shred said, nodding. “Pack your shit.”
Samuel smiled at her. “Thanks, Shred.”
“You’re welcome, I guess. You might make this more bearable.”
Samuel nodded and went back inside. He began to pack up everything, which were primarily essentials that he had rescued from their previous home. He left Tranpar’s various things, though- he could carry them himself.

“I can’t get a good look at her.” Nebris said irritably. “She’s too well hidden with that cloak in the tree.”
“She’ll show herself eventually.” Vechs assured. “We can tell she has purple eyes and brown hair, though, right? Like you.”
Nebris sighed. “I’m just…wondering when she’ll show herself. Why is she following them like she is?”
“She’s a better ninja than the ninja.” Etho remarked. “I do like Niel, though.”
“Adrian’s been really nice to him.” Aureylian noted. “Actually, he’s been nice to everyone.”
“Like you.” Vechs nudged her gently. “Nia’s a badass. I think Shred’s the biggest badass though.”
“She has to be. She’s descended from Blame.” Paul glanced over at the Skullblade.
“I hope she punches Tarsen in the face.” Blame grumbled. “He’s a serious creep.”
“Sorry ‘bout that.” Bdoubleo muttered.

Nia looked down at Tranpar as he tugged on her sleeve. He had been bouncing around all morning, very excited to be going on an adventure. Now, however, he held a small green box, latched closed with a piece of golden metal.
He held out the box to her. “For you.”
Nia raised an eyebrow and took it from him, carefully opening the latch and then the box. Quiet, only slightly disjointed music played, and the small figure of a dancer spun slowly within.
“I’ve never really interacted with girls much, except for my sister, and she liked that little figure.” Tranpar admitted. “So I thought you might like it, and I wanted to make something for someone, and, well, you’re the least scary girl around.”
“How did you make this?” Nia asked, voice filled with wonder.
“It wasn’t hard.” Tranpar told her quietly. “I made it last night.”
“You made this in one night?!”
“Yeah. I’ve made better but it was destroyed in the fire.” He paused. “Do you like it?”
It’s not really my thing, but… “I love it. It’s great.” Nia carefully closed and latched the box before putting it away in her bag. “Thank you.”
Tranpar grinned at her. “You’re welcome!”
A genius with little to no common sense.
Nia wondered briefly when they would be leaving and looked up at Shred just in time to see her draw back her fist and punch Tarsen in the face. He howled in pain and stumbled back, covering his nose with his hands. Nia could see some blood dripping down his face.
Skullblade strength.
“Don’t you touch me again.” Shred snarled. “You get away from me, and you leave me the hell alone, or I’ll break more than just your nose. Got it?”
Tarsen nodded quickly before frantically stumbling away. Samuel sighed and moved to help him patch up his nose. Even once he was finished, it still looked a little crooked and the material he had stuck to keep it from bleeding was slightly red.
Shred didn’t look sorry at all. “Are we ready to move?” She called.
Everyone gave her the affirmative. She checked the sun and started to walk.
After a few minutes, Samuel stepped up beside her and lowered his voice. “Where are we headed, exactly?”
“Ashwatch.”
Samuel frowned and glanced at the sun. “You’re slightly off course. We need to go that way.” He pointed slightly to the side.
“…Oh. I, uh. I knew that.” Shred corrected her course and sped up a little.
Samuel rolled his eyes. Sure she did.
~~~
A couple of hours later, Nia gently tapped Samuel’s shoulder. “Tranpar has a sister?” She asked quietly.
“Had.” Samuel sighed softly. “He did.”
“Oh.” Nia hesitated. “Is…that why you’re looking after him?”
Samuel nodded. “She was left looking after him when their parents died. She…she died on my watch. It was my fault, I wasn’t paying enough attention. I promised her I’d look after him as she bled out on the ground.”
“I’m sure it wasn’t your fault.”
“There was nothing I could do, but…but still.” Samuel shuddered. “Tranpar’s brilliant. Really, he is. He’s just…lacking in common sense. It’s infuriating sometimes, and he doesn’t…he doesn’t listen to me like he listened to his sister.”
Nia nodded and put a hand on his shoulder to comfort him. “You’ve done your best. He’s turning out okay.”
Samuel sighed. “I hope so.”
As they walked, Adrian held a discussion with Niel, who was walking beside him. Tranpar was sitting on Teramelle’s back due to not being able to walk as far, and Niel would likely join him soon- he tended to run out of breath quickly or complain of chest pains when overworked.
“So how good are you with that sword?”
Niel glanced at the weapon in question. “Not very.” He admitted. “I’ve tried to use it, but…”
“Maybe you just need to try a different style.” Adrian suggested. “It took me ages to get decent with a sword, so you might just need practice.”
“Do you think so?” Niel sounded hopeful.
“Yeah! I’m sure you could be good at whatever you put your mind to. It’s just not easy, is all.” Adrian grinned at him.
“I’m not that good physically, though.” Niel said, sighting. “It’s just not my thing.”
“Why?”
Niel hesitated before speaking. “I run out of breath easily. Just…how it is.” He wouldn’t meet Adrian’s eyes. “So how did you meet Teramelle?”
An uncommon variety of magical creature, unicorns.
“You know, it’s weird. I really don’t remember that well.” Adrian shrugged. “I was really little and it was right after my mother died. I snuck out of the house because I wanted to be alone, and ended up falling in the river. I almost died, but I was dragged out of the water by a glorious, glowing creature. Teramelle took me home and…never really left.” Adrian patted Teramelle’s side and she snorted quietly.
“She’s beautiful.” Niel remarked, smiling at the unicorn. “I’m glad she saved you that day.” He added after a short pause.
Adrian smiled and nodded. “Thanks. I’m glad she saved me as well. And…I’m kinda glad we found you. Not that you got kicked out or that you were crying or anything, but you’re pretty cool and I like hanging out with you.”
Niel stared at him as if not believing him. “R-really?!”
“Yes, really!” Adrian grinned at him. “You’re a lot of fun, you know!”
“I am?!”
“Yeah! I like hanging out with you.”
Niel grinned broadly and on impulse practically jumped forward and hugged Adrian tightly. He pulled away quickly, however, when he realized what he had done. “S-sorry…”
“It’s fine! I like hugs.”
The two smiled at each other and kept walking, Niel almost skipping.
He couldn’t help wondering, however, if they would reject him if they knew more about him.
Little did he know that someone following them was thinking the same thing.
~~~
Nebris’s descendant found that following them was a lot more difficult now that she was actually near them. She had to stay behind and follow by darting between trees and hiding in the bushes. She wished that she could leap from tree to tree, but she knew she was incapable of that.
As she followed, she reflected on what she had seen from them. The blue-eyed girl- Nia, she thought the name was- seemed like she knew how to use that bow, and she could definitely feel the magical energy radiating from that thing. The boy in the red cape didn’t seem too powerful, but he had the unicorn’s trust. The Skullblade was terrifying and clearly a force to be reckoned with. The one man seemed too conceited to be an issue for anyone and the sheepman seemed pretty ridiculous. The kid that looked like a shadowwalker- the one with silvery hair- seemed like he wasn’t that great at what he did, but he seemed sweet from what she had overheard. The little kid lacked common sense and his guardian seemed capable.
This was certainly an odd group, the purple-eyed girl reflected. She wondered if they had room for someone like her….
Rare even in the best of times.
She glanced down at her hands briefly before shaking it off. Probably not. If she showed herself, she couldn’t let them know. It was too dangerous.
It was also for their own good.

Also, side note, I wonder if that dragon creature from a few chapters ago is Nebris' descendant? Last chapter made me doubt it, but maybe. Or they might be related?
Lovely chapter B-)
