Valentine stories - Etho x Nebris, Pause x Beef
Friday, February 13th, 2015 08:39 pmEtho and Nebris:
He couldn’t have explained how, but Nebris could sense something was wrong. It must have been early (or maybe very late) because he was so exhausted that his head was pounding. He should have been fast asleep, mind filled with mismatched eyes and glowstone, ready to wake up and go caving for more resources. He had the hoarding habits of a dragon.
But he wasn’t asleep. He had woken up. Something was wrong. First rule of survival - never ignore your instincts.
Suddenly, he heard a noise, and that was all he needed to spring from his bend and charge across the room. Adrenaline shot through him quicker than a bullet and made him forget the early hour and his lack of energy. The intruder was knocked to the floor and Nebris straddled him and raised his fists. Stupidly, he had forgotten to grab a weapon.
“One word and you’re dead” he growled.
It was dark and his vision was bleary so it did not register straight away just who was pinned underneath him. Not until the intruder spoke.
“Really?” Etho asked, voice soft but still cocky.
Nebris’ throat felt dry. He examined the man trapped beneath him, trying to ignore how close they were and how he could feel every muscle of Etho’s body against his skin. It occurred to him that he probably looked a mess from sleep - eyes red and hair messy. He wished he was wearing something other than the ruffled clothes he was wearing yesterday.
“As much as I enjoy you being on top for once, how about you let me up?” Etho remarked drily.
Nebris blushed, then immediately reprimanded himself. He should never let Etho get to him.
“What are you doing here? I’ll let you up when I know you are not a threat” he snapped.
Through the darkness, he could see the smirk light up Etho’s eyes.
“So… Never?” Etho teased.
Cursing, Nebris rolled of him and clambered to his feet. His left hand clasped around a sword and he gripped it tightly.
“Why are you here?” he demanded again.
Etho watched him patiently. It was as if he was waiting for Nebris to produce the answer. He should have know it was too early for Nebris’ brain to function properly.
“I figured we could play another kind of game today. Do you like chess?” he asked.
Whatever diabolical scheme Nebris had been expecting, this certainly wasn’t it. His mind scrambled to try figure out what Etho was planning, what he was planning. Nothing was ever simple with Etho. Ever. Nebris knew that better than everybody.
“I don’t buy it” Nebris said “You are here to kill me”.
Etho laughed and Nebris debated plunging his sword straight through his heart.
“I don’t have a weapon with me” he pointed out.
“You don’t need one” Nebris countered “You are deadly no matter what”.
Rolling his eyes, Etho raised his hands, as if to surrender.
“Nebris. What day is it today?” he said slowly.
He blinked. Shocked. He knew what day it was of course but he hadn’t made the connection between the date and Etho’s presence. Since when was Etho ever affectionate or thoughtful? (Perhaps that was a bit unfair - he was very thoughtful when it came to plotting ways of killing Nebris). When would ETHO do something nice?
“Valentine’s day” Nebris stated.
A smile crept onto his lips, one that he couldn’t manage to suppress. He turned to Etho and lowered his sword.
“Happy Valentine’s day”
Kissing Etho was always either rough or sweet, there was never an in between. A bit like their relationship. The day was spent playing cards, eating icecream and kissing. It didn’t matter that they would go back to trying to murder each other tomorrow. Nebris and Etho were fighters - they lived in the moment. Tomorrow was something that didn’t matter. He was drunk in Etho - he never wanted to be sober.
Pause and Beef (most of the dialogue is taken from their latest terra restore episode):
The night sky was beautiful that night. The moon was pearly white, the exact same colour he imagined the wings of angels to be. A billion stars twinkled like diamonds. Idly, he traced patterns of constellations and thought of all the myths and legends he had ever heard about the stars. He looked over Beef with his blue eyes twinkling. No star could ever outshine as them.
“Beef?” he asked.
His friend turned to look at him, expression curious.
“What?”
Pause really didn’t know how to phrase what he wanted to say. He got so flustered sometimes that he stumbled over all his words. He didn’t want to ruin this moment. He wanted everything to be perfect. Beef deserved perfection.
“Sometimes I look up at the moon” he began, and paused to see Beef’s reaction.
He nodded encouragingly.
“And wonder if you’re looking at the same time” he finished.
He realised that sounded weird and put a hand to his head. All this trying to be poetic was pointless. He was useless. He would just have to be brave and say it. PauseUnpause was always brave.
“I love you” he said, barely louder than a whisper but Beef had heard him.
Beef was smiling. Smiling like a man in love.
“Pause, will you be my valentine?” he asked.
