TEASER

There were two hunters in the woods, who, after a long day hunting, were in the middle of an immense forest. It was getting dark, and having lost their bearing, they decided to head in one direction until they were clear of the increasingly oppressive foliage after what seemed like hours, they came across a cabin in a small clearing. They approached, and found the door ajar. Nobody was inside. The hunters flopped down on the single bed, deciding to explain themselves to the owner in the morning. As they looked around, they were surprised to see the walls adorned by many portraits, all painted in incredible detail. Staring back, they grew increasingly uncomfortable. Making a concerted effort to ignore the many hateful faces, they turned to face the wall, and exhausted, they fell into a restless sleep. Face down in an unfamiliar bed, the first hunter turned blinking in unexpected sunlight. Looking up, he discovered that the cabin had no portraits, only windows.

PART ONE

The second hunter woke up several hours later noticing quickly that their companion was gone. They were instantly alert scanning the cabin for any sign of him, seeing only four plain wooden walls the portraits gone as if they were never there. Voice raspy from sleep they called out, "Vechs!! Where are you?! This is not the time to be playing a prank! Come on out! What'd you do with the portraits anyway?!" They stopped yelling the severity of the situation dawning on them Moving quickly they surveyed the cabin, looking for supplies. In the cabinets they found an axe, two loaves of bread, a chipped old iron sword, and a bow of amazing quality and workmanship which had obviously been cared for and loved by the owner. Of course these things were covered in a fine layer of dust like everything in the cabin. They sniffed the bread although it was dusty it appeared to be only a few hours old. Which meant that someone had entered the cabin while the hunters were sleeping. They shoved everything in their pack, left the cabin, and ran into the woods trying put as much distance between themself and the cabin as quickly as possible. That night they collapsed exhausted they had managed to put around twenty miles between them and the cabin. Tears ran down their cheeks they knew that by running they had to an extent left Vechs to die. They woke up the next morning in a different cabin from the one they woke up in the day before, this one had many windows.

PART TWO

Two days after three scouts were sent into the same woods. The first scout turned to the others and said, “I wonder where Nebris and Vechs got to.” The second responded with a roll of their eyes, “Knowing them probably off into a cave or something so they could talk.” The third who had been ignoring the others up until this point had kneeled down at the base of a tree. They turned to the other two and snapped, “Shut up! We need to stay quiet, and split up meet back here in two days no more gossiping.” They said their goodbyes the first scout and second scout went east, while the third went west. After it got dark the first two scouts came across two caves. The entrance to the first was covered in vines the second was covered in moss. The first scout turned to their companion and asked, “So do you want the left one or the right one?” In response the second scout headed down into the moss covered cave. The first scout then headed into the vine cave mumbling under their breath, “Rude.” After several hours of walking the first scout decided to sleep under a little skylight in the cave. The first woke up in the middle of the night blinking in the bright moonlight. They pushed away some hair in their face. Rubbing the sleep from their eyes, they discovered the hair wasn’t theirs but was in fact hanging from the ceiling like a vine.

PART THREE

The next morning, the second scout walked out of the moss covered cave. Then they noticed the lack of their companion, and walked into the vine filled cave. After walking for quite a ways, they arrived to the location where their companion had slept. They shaded their eyes caught off guard by the sudden brightness. The room was exactly the same as the rest of the cave aside from the fact there was a hole in the ceiling that let in sunlight. The walls were of plain stone and there were vines hanging everywhere. The only unusual thing was that one of the thicker vines was a bright red color.
