Okay! Here you go!
Beta thanks to the ever wonderful Salt and Cap!!
This land is like most others but with one difference. The gods of the people live. And sometimes, they choose some of the mortals to be their vessels, their faces. The gods are the enigma of this land. There are fourteen main gods, and plenty of minor deities. Each have their own domain and attributes, and all have their own favorites and dislikes. They are their own consciousness, personalities and each have their own spirit animals, which both represent them and share personality traits.
Some of the gods are currently looking for ‘shells’ as they call mortals. No one knows exactly which ones, not until the ceremonies. All of the mortals want to catch those god's attention and be their face, but there’s more to it than just the glamorous side that everyone sees.
To be a vessel is to be completely vacated from your body. You are left as a disembodied spirit, unable to interact with anything. Everyday is just wandering around, lonely, spent wishing for your non existent body. Every once and in a while, you get a glimpse of what life used to be. The immortal is required to vacate for a couple of days every year. On top of all that, when the term of service is over, there is a chance of your spirit not finding its way back to your body.
The ones that do come back do so to a better situation, a lavish house, a good salary to live off of for the rest of their lives, and eternal acceptance by both god and man.
To help compensate for the theft of their vessel’s life and body, the gods work hard to stay a part of the human world. They often host events and feasts. Most employ dozens of humans from nearby villages.
More to come!
