Part 3:

Chapter two of that weird animal-transforming-Fruit Basket-Mindcrack-thing-that-still-has-no-name (I’m good with titles.) :3 And apparently descriptions as well. :3

Aurey trembled in the face of the black creature before her. Just moments ago, it had been Vechs, towering above her. However, now he was no bigger than her hand.

Vechs the bat took another cautious hop towards the frightened girl, her bright green eyes wide with terror. He just had to hope she didn’t make an attempt to hit him or kick him; he wasn’t sure if his little body could survive it.

As the bat moved once more, Aurey opened her mouth to scream, but no sound came. She scooted back again, her body slamming against the wall of lockers.

Vechs took one final hop, and with it, put himself within a few inches of Aurey’s feet (which, in his current state, were slightly larger than he).

He began to spread his small bat wings, and Aurey let out a whimper, cowering back against the lockers even more. With many small flaps in quick succession, he fluttered off the ground, keeping himself in the air at eye-level with Aurey.

He made a slow move towards her, angling his body to glide smoothly. Aurey started to open her mouth to scream again, but Vechs landed on her knees, his tiny claws poking against her skin as he did his best to not dig in to the soft flesh.

Vechs moved a wing towards Aurey’s face, holding one small bat claw to her mouth. The sharp end prodded against her upper lip, the softer, almost velvety wing tickling her chin. He made a quiet shushing noise as he did.

Her first instinct was to raise a hand to the bat, but she didn’t, just stared into his eyes as she closed her mouth. She had never seen human Vechs’s eyes, but as a bat, they were a dark brown, almost black, and would be hard to notice against his dark face had they not reflected and shined in the light.

“It’s alright. Please don’t scream again.” The bat said, in an attempt to soothe her. She responded with a curt nod, not taking her still shock-widened eyes off of Vechs as she did.

He removed his wing from her lips, folding it up against his side to match the other. He turned and hopped from her legs to the ground, turning back to her after landing. There was no hiding it now, no way he could try and come up with some kind of lie to convince Aurey that he wasn’t some type of freak creature. He let out a small sigh.

“Okay, do you have any questions you want me to answer?” He asked calmly.

“Who—How did—What are you?” She stuttered out, her questions fighting to be asked all at once.

“Well, the short story is that I was cursed, and whenever I make contact with someone of the other gender, other than brushing past them in the halls of something similar, I transform into, well, this.” He answered, unfurling his wings as a gesture. “It’s quite cool, actually. I’m one of the few people who can claim to have truly been in the mind of an animal, though I can’t exactly tell very many about it.” He gave a small, innocent smile, and what looked to be a shrug.

“One of f-f-few? There’s more like you?” Aurey stammered, her body beginning to relax, her curiosity taking over. “More bat-people?”

“Mmhm, there are others who are cursed, but they become different animals.” He answered with a nod.

“L-like what?” Aurey was becoming genuinely curious now, the thought of people morphing into creatures like unicorns and kittens intriguing her.

Vechs took a couple short hops away from her, glancing up to the corners of the hall before returning his gaze to her. His voice was quiet when he spoke.

“This probably isn’t the safest place to discuss it, we should at least leave school grounds before we talk anymore about it.”

Aurey stood up, following him around the corner. He flapped over to his clothes, hooking the strap of his goggles in his claws. “Could you help me?” She didn’t say anything, just knelt down and folded his clothes into a small pile, picking them up as she stood again.

Vechs flew up to Aurey, dropping the goggles onto the pile before settling himself on her shoulder, her red hair tickling his back.

“You don’t mind, do you? I can’t remember the last time I transformed, and my little bat wings are tired.” He said, cocking his small head towards the side as he looked to her, a pleading look in his eyes.

“Um, no, I guess it’s alright.” He smiled his thanks to her, tiny white fangs making an appearance as he did. Aurey proceeded down the hallway, making her way out of the school, the little bat perched comfortably on her shoulder, leaning into her neck, his tiny claws grasping the short sleeve of her white dress to hold on.

Aurey stared at the school in the distance. She and Vechs had gone to a local park, sitting under one of the many large, shady trees while they talked.

When Vechs said he was tired, he must have meant it; after they had more or less finished their conversation, he had flown over to a low branch, and when Aurey turned to him again, she found him upside down and asleep, leaving her to her own thoughts.

During their conversations, Vechs had refused to tell her of others he knew that had his abilities (something about respecting their privacy, Aurey couldn’t remember exactly what). He did, however, tell her that there were a few who went to school with them, but that she would have to figure out who they were herself.

She turned to the sleeping Vechs beside her. His claws dug into the wood, suspending him in the air. His small ears twitched whenever a bug flew near them, which happened fairly often as they buzzed around in the heat.

As Aurey watched the little bat sleep, she had to admit that it was rather adorable, once she had adjusted to the fact that he was still technically a human. This brought a sudden concern to Aurey’s mind.

Wait, he’s not going to be a bat forever, is he? Panic spread across her face as she considered the thought. "H-He’s going to change back, right?" She voiced to nobody in particular. She began pacing, circling the tree.

Though it was purely unintentional, she couldn’t have timed her thoughts any better if she had tried. There was a loud <pop from the other side of the large oak tree, and she poked her head around, gasping before quickly turning another one-eighty, a bright crimson blush setting into her cheeks.

Vechs was no longer a bat hanging from the tree, but rather, a human, though he still hung with his legs wrapped around it, the branch settled in the crook of his knees. A multi-colored mist surrounded him, covering the majority of his body.

From the few bare spots around his shoulders and back, Aurey could tell that he wasn’t wearing anything, though the smoke did a good job shielding his “vexy bits” from public view, if you will.

From what Aurey could tell, he was still sleeping, so she quickly walked around the other side of the tree, where his clothes still lay in a pile. She threw the pile at him, regretting it the second it left her hand.

Not only had she thrown his clothes, but his goggles and hard hat as well. His eyes quickly opened as he awoke and fell from the branch, hitting the ground with a thud. He groaned as he opened his mouth, prepared to say something, but snapped it shut as he realized what had happened, a redness setting into his face. He quickly picked up the now-messy pile and began to redress himself, Aurey’s back to him the entire time.

She only turned when she felt an additional weight on her head. She quickly found herself face-to-face (or rather, face-to-chest), looking up at the man towering above her. He had yet to put his goggles on, and she found that his eyes were a bright, stunning blue. There was a small, slightly embarrassed smile on his face.

“Next time, you don’t have to throw this at me.” He said, his hands still on the hat. Aurey gave a small embarrassed smile, stammering out an apology as Vechs placed the helmet upon his own head.

“Oops, sorry about that, I didn’t mean—” He pressed a finger to her lips, and she stopped mid-sentence.

“It’s okay.” He said quietly, turning to face the school, which was only a building in the distance. “School’s probably out now, so there’s no reason to go back.” He stated matter-of-factly, turning back to Aurey, his hand returning to his side.

“Yeah, I guess not. See you around, then.”

“Bye, Rel-Rel.” He smiled and winked at her as he said it before he walked off, leaving Aurey under the tree, staring off at him as he slowly got smaller, before turning a corner and vanishing completely.

“...Rel-Rel?” She said quietly to herself as she began the walk home, a small smile creeping up onto her face.

Um. Well. I guess first of all: why didn't he change when he PUT A FINGER TO HER LIPS TO GET HER TO SHUT UP? Woah. I should lay off the... well, soda.

Second (leading off the first?): What constitutes contact? Physical contact? If so, I guess he can't get overly serious in a relationship?
