Prompt Swap: Whizzing Past My Head
Monday, August 11th, 2014 06:26 pmThis is a prompt swap for writeitinsharpie. Enjoy!
Prompt: Insomnia problems along with nightmares. Should probably be slightly dark.
Author's notes: Oddly easy to write. I probably toned up the darkness meter a bit too much, and didn't focus much on the insomnia or nightmares themselves. Please inform me of mistakes in grammar and spelling.
GenerikB looked at the Skype conversation between himself, Doc, Etho and Sethbling. They had come to the agreement of what they'd be doing during this session sometime last week. Sethbling was going to work on wiring a music station, similar to the one on last season's map. GenerikB and Doc were going to, on Genny's request, work together on a Slime Elevator going to and from the top of the Iron Golem farm in the Redstone Town. Etho had said he could be around if necessary, but there really wasn't anything for him to build at the current time, MC and Sevadus had yet to deliver the double chest each that they had promised, leaving Redstone town ironically short on its namesake. Both Etho and Doc were not logged onto Skype, but Sethbling was. Genny pressed the Call button, and listened to the atrocious ringtone that he hoped he would eventually love.
GenerikB, standing on the ground, watched Sethbling scaffold around, preparing to build the Music Station. It had only been a mere five minutes since the two had logged on, and they both had agreed to hold off the streaming until Doc showed up, but GenerikB was already bored. He had texted Doc once already, but there had been no response. Etho had replied to Sethbling's message saying that if Doc didn't show up in another five minutes, he'd hop on to replace the German genius.
Four hours later, while Sethbling had muted himself to read donations, Doc joined the Mumble room. After his successor and colleague greeted him jovially, only to get responded with grunts and mumbling, Sethbling un-deafened himself, and did the same thing as his two friends.
"Are you guys still streaming?" were the first understandable words from the German. Seth and Genny responded in the affirmative, and he went silent again. Eventually Etho excused himself for family obligations, and GenerikB and Sethbling agreed it was good time as any to cut off the livestreams. Once they ended, Sethbling and Etho both said farewell and disconnected, leaving Generik and Doc in the Mumble alone.
"Where were you earlier today?" GenerikB asked lazily, scrolling through reddit on his alternate account.
"Couldn't sleep. Freakin' nightmares, man." He said, lack of sleep now apparent on his voice.
"Nightmares? Hate those things. This new? You think you'll be OK?" GenerikB replied, a bit more concerned.
"Yeah, I'll be fine. Sorry for missing today's session, I promise it won't happen again."
"Life's more important, friend. Good luck." GenerikB replied. Doc mumbled something and disconnected.
Twenty minutes later, Doc lay down on his bed, playing a drawing game on his tablet. He couldn't get the images out of his head, no matter how much he tried. His sleep was also suffering, as any little noise sent him back through the events, and he felt it required to confirm it was just a crow or a car heading down the road, and not what his brain was trying to convince him it was.
His tablet beeped, 4:25 PM. He needed to be by the police station by 5, to talk to the people there again. On the way downstairs, the phone caught his eye, and he decided it'd be safer to hail a taxicab instead of driving himself, and he reached for the phone.
"Mr. Mössner, this is Shiela. She wants to ask you a couple of questions about what happened on Thursday, alright?"
Doc nodded. He had already gone through the standard exchange where he complains about repeating himself, and being told some crappy reason why he had to.
The bulky officer left the room, leaving just Doc and the new investigator, or attorney, or special agent, or whatever she was, alone.
"Mr. Mössner. Can I call you Steffen?"
Doc nodded.
"I already know most of the details, Officer Hartman explained them to me. I just have a couple of questions before we can talk about new things."
Doc nodded.
"How close did he miss?"
"I heard the thing whizzing past my head."
"And then you tackled him and had your girlfriend call the police."
"Yes."
"But... That didn't go so well."
"Yes."
"What happened, Steffen?"
"He knocked me off and escaped."
"And what happened to his gun?"
"I kept it and handed it to the officer that responded to the call."
"Thank you, Steffen. We can go on now."
Doc nodded.
