I knelt down. The light foot prints of my prey were spread out before me. The crowded city didn't seem to notice me, even though they scurry away from me and duck their heads. Although one person knew. My quarry knew. I could smell the fear in his steps. How he had ran, terrified, across the street. I felt eyes on my back. I turned and sprinted towards the grubby boy. He saw me coming and ducked in to a narrow alley. But he couldn't escape me. I could sprint forever and not break a sweat. I smiled at my perfectness. I had been engineered to be better. Smarter. I could feel his steps pounding on the ground. Hear his heavy breath. Smell his fear. The boy stumbled for a heartbeat. It was enough. I tackled him with more force than what was needed. The boy had stolen from me. My last reward from a hunt was tucked in his pocket. I snatched it away.
"I should kill you, you nasty theif!" I snarled. My eyes started to glow purple. But then stopped. The kid was glaring at me with rather surprising hate.
"Go ahead! Kill me! I dare you." The boy shot back. I looked at his hands, they were covered by gloves and his mouth was masked. A shaky memory rose up in my eyes. Teasing and sparing, long missions in each other's companionship. One mission gone wrong. Taking the mask and stuffing it in his pocket. The very mask was in his pocket. One eye scarred and red. The other the clearest blue.
"Etho?" I whispered. The eyes were the same. Except no scar and just two clear blue eyes.
"That's me, now what? How do you know my name?" The kid snapped. I felt my eyes heat up. I couldn't cry. It wasn't possible any more.
"How old are you?" I asked quietly.
"Why should I tell you?" I shook his shoulders and his head hit the ground with a sickening thwack.
"That's why." I growled.
"Ok, ok! I'm ten!" Ten years old and on the streets. Ten years since that mission that took Etho away. The mission flashed through my head.

"Hey, Nebs!" Etho had called. "I just found us some easy money! Boss told me about a guy who wants some lady and is willing to give us one-grand!" I had ,of course, jumped on it. I ran over to Etho's dorm and he filled me in on the order. The page read:

"Idiot! He didn't sign it!" I'd yelled. Etho just shrugged. And then I stole his mask. He narrowed his eyes and jumped on me. We were the only ones that could really hurt each other, or so it seemed. I had tried (and failed) batting him away. In the end we were all tangled up on the floor with Etho re-tying his mask. The day continued and preparations were made. We entered the office and headed up. Aurey had been in the elevator. The perfect chance. Etho grabbed her from behind while I pointed the gun. A knife was stuck in his stomach. It was as simple as that. I rushed forward and shot the girl. I dropped down. Etho was still falling down. It had all happened in less than a second. I caught him. His breathing became shallow and fast until he didn't breath at all.
