The Rebellion Chapter 3

Once again Words in italics are in Latin and the translation can be found below, and Words in bold are said with emphasis.

---------Chapter 3----------

“Wait, wait. What rebellion?” Aureylian asked.

“Didn’t Vechs fill you in, when he found you?” Etho inquired.

Vechs threw up his hands, and said, “Don’t look at me, she’s the one who insisted on doing a strip search before we left! I would have had enough time to fill her in, but the overlord’s army was already at the waterfall, by the time she had picked up off the ground and untied me.”

Pause and Beef turn to stare at her, Beef mumbling something under his breath. Etho just rolled his eyes at Vechs, clearly having dealt with him before. Aureylian blushed clenching her fists, and said in a low voice, “You son of a biscuit!” She then tackled him, trying to choke him. Although Pause, Etho, and Beef pulled her off him before she could finish.

Vechs coughed, gestured at Aureylian saying: “See! She can’t keep her hands off me.”

Aurey snarled and tried to attack Vechs again, but Pause and Beef held her back. So instead she whistled and some strange growling noises in the back of her throat. Immediately after she did this Trix stood up and leaped at Vechs. Pause, Etho, and Beef once again raced forward trying to save Vechs, but by the time they managed to pull Trix off Vechs he was already dead.

Beef began shouting at Aurey in portuguese. Etho checked Vechs pulse looking shocked. And yet Pause laughed and flashed Aurey a knowing smile, bending over and he began to mess with Vechs’ head. “Ah-ha!” He exclaimed, parting Vechs’ hair to reveal a set of pitch black feline ears.

Still laughing Pause nudged Vechs, saying, “Come on, get up.”

Etho turned to Pause and said, “Pause stop, he is dead. He can’t…” But he was cut off when Vechs coughed and sat up, holding his shoulder, and said, “What was that for?!?”

Etho and Beef turned to him shocked, Beef said, “How? You were dead!”

That is when Aurey spoke up, “He’s Hominis Catti*; part cat, part human. Basicly we have the ears, tail of a cat, some of them even have retractable claws. They also have nine lives and can speak to any feline.”

Beef looked at her and asked, “What do you mean WE?”

Aurey sighed and messed with her hair, revealing a pair of snow white cat ears. She then turned to Pause asking, “How did you know?”

“I guessed about Vechs because he has no ears, well human ears. And you when you climbed down the rope, and I saw your tail.” Pause stated matter of factly, then he asked, “How did you know about Vechs? Did he tell you?”

Aurey blushed and said, “Well, I didn’t exactly know that Vechs was a Catti.”

Vechs turned to her and exclaimed, “Wait, so you really wanted me dead!” He was about to jump at her. When Pause stepped between them as to avoid more conflict.

“Guys, stop. Vechs why don’t you and Aurey go below decks and clean yourselves off. NO FIGHTING!” Pause said in a firm voice.

Vechs grumbled then grabbed Aurey’s arm, pulling her towards a set of doors, from the expression on Aurey’s face, Pause could tell that Vechs had extended his claws. Trix following dutifully behind them. Aurey shook off Vechs’ hand and said something, it must have been rude because Vechs snapped back, almost immediately and they started arguing again.

Etho sighed rubbing his face, turned to Pause, and asked, “You seem to have experience with the Catti, what is going on with them?”

Pause chuckled and said, “Adrenaline. You know how when you are in an intense situation things seem to slow down, well when a Catti is in an intense situation their animal side takes over, and it takes awhile for them to get back to normal. And judging by the cut on Vechs’ face and Aurey’s arm, they got into a sword fight at some point. So basicly they were flirting, but because of the adrenaline rush, most likely in the form of that sword fight I was talking about. They were flirting like a feral cat would, by getting into fights both verbal and physical.”

Etho nodded and said, “I guess that sort of makes sense.”

Beef just laughed and asked teasingly, “Pause where did you get such an intimate knowledge of the Catti and their flirting?”

“I’ll have you know, I had a life before the rebellion.” Pause replied before turning to walk away, clearly done with the conversation.

Once Pause was out of earshot, Beef and Etho burst out laughing, amused by Pause’s cryptic response.
*hominis catti is latin for man cat
