mindcracklove | Pumpkin Pie

This is just a short Veylian fic I wrote this morning, it's nothing special but I thought I would share it. I'm still fixing up my next fanfiction so this will have to do for now I guess :P I checked for errors and didn't see any, but if you find some let me know! ;)

Vechs jumped out of bed and slipped his boots on. He had set his alarm clock extra early, but he had accidentally set it for P.M. rather than A.M. It was 5:30 A.M, so he had to make up for the lost hours and quickly head out to spawn. Vechs was feeling particularily devious today, so a prank was the perfect thing to satisfy him. He grabbed his bag with all the resources he would need and stepped out the back door. Flurries of snow fell from the grey clouds in the sky and the cold air stung his face. Ah, the dark clouds sure looked fetching today. Vechs adjusted his goggles and grinned before heading off.

As Vechs trudged through the snow, he realized how hungry he was. In his hurry to get going, he completely forgot to grab breakfast. His stomach grumbled, more than half of his hunger bar had disappeared. After rummaging through his bag and coming up empty-handed, he decided to make a stop at the nearest building to steal (no, borrow without asking) some food. He silently snuck over to Aureylian's place and dug through the chests searching for anything edible. Oooooh, pie! Vechs scarfed down as many slices as he could and put a few more in his bag for later. He was about to leave when he heard a familiar melody coming from a nearby hill. Upon moving closer to the sound, he discovered Aureylian sitting in the snow humming.

Aureylian was always humming or singing various songs. Vechs giggled, but quickly slapped his hand over his mouth so she wouldn't hear him. He was too late though, and Aureylian turned around. Her cheeks were pink from the cold and there were small snowflakes stuck in her hair.

"Oh, hi Vechs!" Aureylian smiled up at him.

"Hi Relly," Vechs scratched the back of his neck and sat next to her. "Why are you up so early?"

"I had to get a batch of pumpkin pie baked, I'm having people over later..." Aureylian paused and scowled as she noticed crumbs on Vechs's shirt. Vechs laughed nervously and brushed the crumbs off.

"Did you really eat it?"

"Sorry."

"Rude," Aureylian sighed, "and why are you up this early, Vechs?"

Oh right! Vechs was in a hurry to get to spawn before everyone woke up. Well, it couldn't hurt to stay a little longer... he was already late, so being more late wouldn't really affect his schedule more than it already had. Vechs wanted to keep his plan a secret to avoid getting in trouble, so he made something up.

"Oh... no reason, I was just going for a walk."

Snow had somehow found its way into Vechs's boots, causing his toes to curl up in an attempt to stay warm. He shivered as the wind blew against him, and he pulled his goggles down over his eyes. Vechs hated winter for the most part, the only thing he really enjoyed about it were the dark clouds that usually loomed overhead. Aureylian didn't seem to mind the weather, so Vechs decided to suck it up. The two sat there for a while chatting about various things before Vechs finally asked something that had been on his mind.

"Do you ever forget to breathe? Like, you're caught up in something and you're so busy that your lungs forget they need oxygen?"

"That's kind of a weird and awfully random question, but yeah sometimes that happens." Aureylian chipped at some ice with her sword. She didn't say it, but she felt like that around Vechs sometimes. She could feel her face getting warm and turned away so Vechs wouldn't notice. Vechs was always so nice to her, and she felt like he was always there for her.

"Like when you ate all of my pumpkin pie that took me forever to make!" Aureylian said jokingly.

Vechs laughed, "Would it make you feel better if I told you the pie was really good?"

"Maybe a little."

"Well, it was delicious."

The two of them paused, sharing the silence. It wasn't an awkward silence, it was more like a conversation without words. Aureylian and Vechs sat there in thought together. Vechs pulled out the last piece of pie in his bag and handed it to Aurey. She sighed, smiling as she took and ate it. Vechs finally spoke up. He could trust Aurey, so he decided to tell her his real plans for the day. Sometimes she liked to join in on his mischief, maybe she would help him carry out the prank.

"I was actually gonna go prank the server today, I thought it would be funny if I covered spawn in carpet. Do you want to tag along?"

Aurey smiled and pushed herself up from the cold ground. She wasn't having people over until later, so she had time to spare. "Sure!"

Vechs stood up and brushed snow off his pants. He giggled evilly, causing Aurey to join in. "Okay, let's get going then!"
