Power Down Chapter 4: Bobcats and Shacks

Hi guys! Anyways, for those of you working on the saladcrack, here's a little break. By the way, if you need any help, don't hesitate to ask! Anyways, onto the chapter!

After a few seconds of walking, Aureylian commented. "It's dark. I can't see much."

Vechs responded by pulling out a flashlight and flicking it on.

"That better?"

"Much, thanks."

The two chatted for a while while going to through the forest, not really searching for wood, but just enjoying each others company. Already, a mutual friendship had formed between them. At one point, the flashlight beam reflected off the eyes of an animal in the undergrowth- it's eyes appeared as spots of yellow, like fireflies frozen in place. Vechs expressed his hope that it wasn't a bobcat. Aureylian expressed her opinion that it was indeed a bobcat and was going to eat Vechs.

"I think you insulted it." Vechs remarked when the animal scampered away.

"No, no." Aureylian insisted. "It's getting it's friends. They're going to share you for dinner."

"I'm started to regret bringing you along." Vechs said, privately reflecting how startled he would have been if he had seen those eyes alone. It made a remarkable difference having a friend along.

Suddenly, the two friends came across a pathway of sorts.

"I thought Paul said no one ever lived here?" Aureylian said. "I sure wouldn't want to live in a monster infested forest."

"Let's follow the pathway and see where it goes."

"Okay."

The two followed the pathway for a while and came across an old wooden shack. There were vines hanging everywhere. The two entered the shack through an opening. The door appeared to have fallen off long ago.

In the shack was a dust coated table with a few books on it There was a map hanging from the wall. Vechs went to investigate it while Aureylian went to read the book.

"It looks like there's a city of sorts elsewhere! It doesn't look like Spawn Town."

Aureylian picked up the book and blew the dust off of the cover. "Maybe there'll be more info in here." She opened it and started reading.

"After many days, I've decided to build a shack here as a sort of base. The monsters here have become greater in number. I'm convinced there are people on the other side of this forest. If I don't find anything, I'll return to the city. There, I can put my plan into motion. The energy source I found near here should help a ton." Aureylian read.

"Energy source! Keep reading!"

Aureylian continued. "This entry is from a few days later: I've made up my mind. I'm taking the energy source back to the city. I'll use it to further my plan. I leave tomorrow."

"That's it?"

"There are a lot of ripped out pages. he must have thought he was going to come back here."

"You know what we have to do, right?"

"What?"

"We're going to that city."

That seems like a good point to end at! Sorry this took a bit longer than expected. Also,. I'm going on a trip in a bit. I'll still be able to write, but I won't be able to post for a few days. I'll try, though. Anyways, see you next time!

This gets better every time. And thank you for giving the Saldcrack guys a break. I know I needed one. (And so I slept for maybe 5 hours in a hotel bed, with my sister kicking me and taking the blanket away)

Horray! This is great, and I have a theory: The city is from one of the previous servers?

No, it actually isn't! That would be an awesome idea, but I don't think it would fit with what I have in mind. Also, of you want me to write a backstory for a character, shoot me a PM. I'd be happy to help!

Sure! right now were in the Info-gather-and-figure-out-what-exactly-we-need-to-do stage, but once that's over and there is an open story, we'll keep you in mind!

I've only read this far (I don't have enough time to read the rest this morning) but I'm enjoying the story. It's easy to read a chapter in about five minutes, so I might be able to slip a chapter in here and there over the day and get through the rest of them.

I'm really wondering what this power source is and who left that journal there...

Oh god. I wrote this in JULY, and completely forgot that whole journal thing. I might do a "Power Down: The Story that was never told" explaining the MANY abandoned plot elements. That journal was one if them. I made the chapters short on purpose. Orphan, on the other hand, that was long.
