mindcrackloveThis is it, guys! I finally finished the finale of this series (the actual ending this time) and I just want to say thank you so much for all the positive feedback. It really does mean a lot, and I appreciate it :'D
Hopefully this ending is a little bit more, well... pleasing. :P
Pause’s POV
Pause felt sorry for Etho. They walked back in silence, Pause didn’t know what to say and Etho just focused on walking. He didn’t have to ask how Etho died, after seeing Etho sitting there he already knew. Etho rarely got into much trouble, he was the last person Pause would have expected to die first. He must have felt guilty for what happened before they died. It was just a hunch, so Pause kept his thoughts to himself. Beef stood up and stretched.
“Well, I’m going to head off to bed. See you guys tomorrow.”
Pause was feeling tired as well. It was pretty late, and his back hurt from helping Etho walk home. The fire was reduced to glowing embers, and the room felt chilly. Pause got up to shut the windows. He didn’t bother locking the door. Beef had the idea to keep it unlocked in case anyone else respawned and happened upon their house. Mobs couldn’t open doors, so there wasn’t any point in locking it anyways. Etho still sat on the couch.
“Hey, Pause?”
“Yeah?” Pause turned around so he was facing Etho.
“I just wanted to thank you… for finding me and helping me walk back.”
“Don’t worry about it, that’s what friends are for,” Pause put on a smile so Etho knew he meant it. He was about to leave the room when Etho said something that caught his attention.
“Please don’t tell Beef, I don’t want him to feel bad,” Etho stared at Pause.
“Tell Beef what? I don’t understand,” Pause pretended like he didn’t know, but his lack of any ability to lie gave him away.
“You know what I’m talking about, Pause. That’s why you were silent the whole way home, isn’t it? Just please don’t tell him, promise me.”
“Fine, I promise.”
2 Months Later
The surface of the pond was completely still, and reflected the scenery perfectly. Pause breathed in the fresh air and slowly exhaled. The three sat on the edge of the dock with their feet in the water. Etho had completely recovered since his arrival. Other than the fact both of his eyes were grey instead of one being red, Etho was back to his old self. The shakiness of Pause’s hands was hardly noticeable, and Beef told him that his side effects had vanished as well. How could Etho and Beef have this much patience to sit and fish for so long? Pause hated fishing, especially on a day like this where he could be doing something more exciting. His fishing rod “accidentally” fell in the pond a while ago. His eyes wandered the familiar terrain until he stumbled upon something out of the ordinary. He squinted, but still couldn’t tell what it was.
“Hey, you guys see that?” Pause asked as he nudged Etho and Beef.
“Where?” Beef and Etho said at the same time. Pause pointed to what he was looking at; Beef and Etho set down their fishing rods.
“We should go check it out,” Etho stood up, followed by Beef and then Pause.
Rain started falling from the clouds above and caused small puddles to start forming. None of them minded, it was almost always raining and they were used to it. As they got closer, Pause realized what, well… who, he was seeing.
“It’s Nebris!” Beef smiled. They ran to meet him.
Nebris’s POV
Nebris sat in the dirt, the rain soaking his shirt and his hair. He smiled and watched as Etho, Pause, and Beef ran towards him. He couldn’t move and his leg hurt like crazy, but he still had never felt happier. He had no clue where he was or why he wasn’t dead.
“Hi, never thought I’d see you guys again.” Nebris pinched his arm, it didn’t seem like a dream. “Uh, where am I, exactly?”
“You respawned, that’s what happened to us when we died,” Pause explained.
“And by looking at you, I bet you hit the ground too hard…” Etho said and laughed. He was exactly right.
“How did you…” Nebris looked at his leg. “Oh my god.”
Nebris’s right leg was definitely broken, it was bent an odd way and he couldn’t really feel it. Beef kneeled down and moved it, which caused Nebris to wince. Beef glanced up at Etho and Pause, who were still standing there.
“What do I do?” Beef asked, slightly panicked.
“I don’t know, I’m not a freaking doctor! Just fix it!” Pause looked like he was going to be sick.
“Um… what do you mean by “fix it,” exactly?” Nebris let out a nervous laugh, “Guys? What are you doing?”
Pause and Etho got down on their knees to help Beef “fix” Nebris’s leg. Pause held down Nebris’s arms and Etho clamped a hand over his mouth. Oh god, no no no no no… Nebris struggled to get up, but Pause and Etho were too strong. Beef grabbed Nebris’s leg and started counting down from five. Nebris bit his tongue and closed his eyes. Beef twisted and Nebris could feel the bone moving into its correct position. He screamed and shouted a jumble of curse words before Etho and Pause let go of him.
“Sorry…” Beef frowned.
Pause hoisted him up, but Nebris pushed him away. He put all his weight on his good foot, some feeling was coming back into his leg. Etho handed him two wooden planks to use as crutches. Nebris leaned on them, he felt angry and frustrated. Since when does anyone just hold you down like that and “fix” a problem without even asking the guy first?
“Can we please get out of this rain? I think it would be best for all of us.” Pause complained.
Beef forced a smile and patted Nebris on the back. Pause and Beef started walking, but Etho just stood there and acted nonchalant. Etho tried to hide it, but he looked genuinely concerned.
“I’m fine,” Nebris groaned.
“If you’re fine, then why don’t we take the long way home?” Etho said teasingly.
“Is that a challenge?” Nebris stared at his rival. Etho looked shocked, he probably didn’t mean it literally. After a moment though, he just shrugged. Nebris responded, his anger was gone.
“Well then, I’d love to.”
