“Alright guys,” Guude said, voice ringing out in the main hall. “Monthly meeting time. Does anyone have anything they want to say before we start on some info for the new map?”

“Finally.” That was Vechs, from the other side of the meeting hall. He was always so impatient. Guude sighed audibly, annoyed at Vechs’ comment. He cleared his throat to start again, but his eyes widened and he began to cough.

“What the fu-“ Guude choked out before he whipped his hands to his head and began to cry out. His cries echoed around the meeting hall and he fell to the floor in extremely apparent agony.

“Guude!” Pause yelled out when he saw Guude collapse. He shot up and took a few steps toward Guude before he coughed twice and fell to the ground similarly to Guude, hands on his head and yelling in pain. The two were now writhing on the ground and when a few more Mindcrack members got up to help them, there was another group of people who fell to the ground. Aureylian, Vechs, Beef, Kurt, Zisteau, Seth, Etho and Nebris were all curled up in the fetal position and writhing in pain. Doc shot up and yelled to the member closest to the door, who was Pyro.

“Go get Jeff! Quickly!” he boomed over the cries of the fallen members. He ushered the rest of the Mindcrackers out of the building quickly, allowing only Jsano, Baj, Avidya and Pyro to stay. The few remaining moved the others to the side of the building were there were a few temporary beds set up. Doc and Jsano looked over the ten for injury and a means of helping them, while the other two kept the remaining ones out of the building. No one knew what to do. There really wasn’t anything that could be done for the ten who were beset by the mysterious condition.

- Guude

I awoke to the smell of dirt and grass. I shifted around once or twice, hearing something in the distance.

“Gu-“ came the voice, seeming closer now. Who could that be, I wondered. I just rolled over and tried to go back to sleep. The voice came again, louder this time.

“Guude! Wake up!” The voice was now accompanied by a gentle push on the shoulder. Just let me sleep, I thought. Sleep away the pain in my head… Wait! I thought. The meeting, my head, where am I now? I sat up quickly, causing my head to spin. I opened his eyes to see four Pause’s spinning around my vision. It took a moment to gather myself and then I blinked away the illusions. It was just one Pause.

“Guude? Are you okay?” Pause sounded concerned. I stood up with the help of Pause and Beef, while a few others looked on.

“So what happened to me?” I asked them when I felt well enough to speak normally.

“Well actually what happened to you happened to all of us.” That was Etho, who spoke up from the back of the group. “Us ten at least. No one really knows were we are though. We were all just in this field when we woke up. But Nebris, Pause and I scouted out an area with some supplies already set out. Maybe there are others here?” But before anyone could agree, disagree, or otherwise, a booming voice rang out of the sky.

“Hello Mindcrackers. In answer to your question Etho, no one else is here. Just you ten, and me. And you are very akin to my slaves here. You have to obey my commands or else you suffer a consequence.” Everyone was silent in awe of what this voice was saying. Slaves? How could someone even try and do that to other human beings? The voice continued.

“Your first task is to go get the supplies in the forest biome nearby. You will se-“

“Why are we still listening to this guy? Let’s just go and find him and wreck his face already,” Pause yelled out at their group. Zisteau, Nebris, and Vechs yelled out their approval as well. A chuckle was heard from the voice and then it spoke once again.

“Well Pause, so happy to see you enthusiastic about your situation, but you need to listen to me because I can damage you in any way I see fit. If you don’t obey, I might do… this.” Pause looked confused for a moment, then his pupils dilated and he fell to his knees, clutching his temples. He began to yell out in pain and Beef, Etho and I went over to his side to help him. The effects seemed to go away after a moment, but Pause was left gasping in pain and cursed the headache he undoubtedly now had.

“See? I control all of you. So you take orders from only me, and you have to obey. So, now we can get on with the instructions. Each group of two will get a limited amount of supplies. You can earn more by winning the daily challenges I will have set up for you all. The teams are already pre-decided; so don’t go trying to team up with anyone other than your roommate. Oh right, there will only be five rooms and five beds for the ten of you, so enjoy sleeping in the same rooms. I will be watching you build, so no sharing of resources and five rooms is a must. Other than that, do what you wish.” And with a crackling sound, the voice quieted. I looked around at the worried faces and steeled myself to be the leader that they needed in a situation like this.

“C’mon guys. We need to get a building set up before sundown, so let’s get to those supplies.” A murmur of assent rang out and we all began the walk to the forest biome to the west.

- Vechs

“Vechs?” Aurey asked me. We had just finished getting our resources together and I was washing up with a piece of wet cloth. The day had been hard and I felt sticky from the humidity and I knew Aurey felt the same from her sounds of annoyance throughout the workday. I didn’t really mind hearing her complain. Hearing any words come out of her mouth was great. I realized I had dozed off slightly thinking about the day, and replied to her quickly.

“Yeah Aureyliderp?” She giggled a bit, and I smiled at her.

“Do you think that the voice-guy-thing had a reason to do this? Like why just us ten? Doesn’t he want the rest of the Mindcrackers for this stupid ‘new map’ thing too?”

“No Rel Rel. Don’t say that,” I told her, getting more serious now. “Would you want everyone to suffer like we are undoubtedly going to have to? I wouldn’t want to wish that on my friends.” She gasped when she heard my response.

“Oh my gosh! I… I didn’t even think when I said that. Geez, why did I say that?” She seemed to be distressed about her saying that, so I went over to her. She smelled like moss and grass from the day in the forest. I wanted to sink into her beautiful emerald eyes and flowing scarlet hair, but I knew I also had to help comfort her. I took her into an embrace and together we sat there for about an hour before she felt like speaking up.

“Vechs?” came her voice, slightly more tentative than it really needed to be.

“Yeah, Aurey?” I responded. It sounded odd to me that talking to her without an special nickname just didn’t feel right, so I noted to avoid doing so in the future.

“I… I’m sorry for saying those things earlier. I feel really bad about it now. Can you keep me from doing that again?” I nodded vigorously in confirmation, and she hugged me tighter. I then heard her breath in heavily, and I felt like something different was going on with her tonight.

“Are you okay, Aureyliderp?” I asked, not sure what to make of her mood. She looked up to me, still clutching onto my shirt, but then leaned up to plant a quick kiss to my cheek. It took me a moment to realize what had just happened. She had kissed me? I didn’t know that she felt attracted to me too. I blushed for a moment afterwards, but then decided if we were going to be bunking together, a make out session on the first night wouldn’t be a terrible way of starting it. I leaned in again, and when she didn’t make a move to keep me away, I pushed gently past her lips with mine and we slowly and passionately kissed for a few minutes before we decided that it was late, and we would need to get up for the challenges the next day. I took off my working shirt and goggles and stood there for a moment, looking at sheer beauty in front of me. Aurey was wearing a silky white nightgown and she motioned me to lie down beside her. I took the hint and moved the covers to slide in next to her. And with that, we faced each other and laid down on the pillows, gazing into each other’s eyes until we finally fell into a relaxing sleep. At least until the early morning hours. She began to shiver from the chilly night air and I leaned in close and she snuggled against me, and we fell asleep again in each other’s arms.

- Guude

“So, is this going to be like usual or what Guude?” Pause asked me when we were all ready to hit the hay. I shook my head.

“No. We need rest for tomorrow Pause. Maybe if we win the challenge we’ll do it, but I’m tired from working all day, guy. Let me go to bed.” Pause let me into our bed reluctantly, but once I got under the sheets, he made a move to pin my arms down above my head.

“Pause! Damn it! I told you I didn’t want to tonight!” I struggled against him halfheartedly, slightly anticipating what Pause had in store for me tonight. He began to lean into me and caress my chest, and I finally crumbled.

“Fine. We can do this. But just let me have some sleep afterwards. You’re going to kill me with all this stuff eventually.” Pause just grinned his devilish smile that made me melt like always and he and I began to enjoy the taste of the other on our lips. Even for all of my complaints, Pause really knew how to give a guy a workout in bed. As soon as he finished, we were both out cold, too tired to clean up. But I was content with how he had pleasured me, and I knew he would feel the same.

- Beef

“Kurt, I know it’s weird to have to do this, but as long as we don’t think about it too much, there aren’t going to be any issues, okay?” Kurt just nodded nervously. He wasn’t used to sleeping in the same bed, let alone the same room as another guy. I sighed, knowing my hopes and dreams were never going to become reality. I unconsciously began to reach down to my belt, but stopped myself. Not in front of the guy, Beef. Are you stupid? I sighed and climbed into the bed, and felt Kurt follow suit a few moments later. I fell asleep with a heavy heart, feeling the pressure of being in the same bed as Kurt weigh on me like nothing ever had before. But before I lost myself to my dreams, I heard Kurt mumble under his breath, clearly dreaming about something.

“Mmmm… Beef… I wanted to tell you… Love you” was the only words I could catch. Beef, tell you, love you… He wanted to tell me he loved me? I turned to look at him, and he was sound asleep with a slight smile on his face. I leaned over to kiss him lightly on the forehead, but he felt me move and opened his eyes.

“Beef? What are you doing?” he asked. I began to blush, not having planned for a confrontation like this.

“Well. I heard you sleep talking and you said something about me and…”

“What! I… Oh my gosh! No! I… I! I said that out loud? But… Well I wanted to tell you but…” He was talking like a nervous wreck. I knew I needed to help him make up his mind, so I finished what I had started. I went in for the kiss, a light one, but Kurt, seeing my acceptance of his feelings, pushed for more. He thrust his tongue between my teeth and I had no choice but to reciprocate. We made out like that for a half hour and when we finally broke apart, gasping for air, I looked Kurt in the eyes.

“You don’t have to worry. I’ve always loved you too. I was just really nervous about telling you.” I blushed more, and Kurt chuckled a little.

“That’s the same way I felt. But, I’m glad that now we know. Right?” He looked at me one more time, and I kissed his forehead.

“Of course. I wouldn’t want it any other way.”

- Zisteau

“Z, can you at least share a part of the blanket, if one could call it that,” Seth announced, annoyed at being woken up by the cold twice already this morning. I grumbled in response. All Seth did was complain about how ‘you didn’t do this right’ or ‘why did you do that’ or ‘stop doing that.’ It pissed me off, but for some reason I heeded most of his advice, even it when it was unnecessary. I reluctantly gave up half of the blanket I had curled around my body. He thanked me quietly, so I just sighed in response. I wished Seth would notice me. I had been trying so hard to get him to see him. He was almost invisible to Seth, unless he was being criticized. And now that they were sharing not only a room, but a bed, and Seth still didn’t do anything.

“Seth… Why?” I whispered, thinking I was quiet enough to keep Seth from hearing. But he did.

“What Z?” I froze. Damn it, I thought. I can’t do this. I leapt up out of the bed, and ran out the door of our room, rushing out of the font door of our cabin. The woods were dark and little moonlit shone through the branches, but I just kept running. I couldn’t face Seth now. This wouldn’t work, I told myself. I couldn’t tell him now.

“Zisteau, wait!” Seth yelled out from behind me, and I heard him closing in on me. I felt him grab my shoulder and I faced him, tears beginning to well up in my eyes.

“I… Seth I can’t do this right now. I always tried to get you to notice, but you just never even talked to me without including an insult or a comment about how I could do better. You never even so much as glanced in my direction when I built something to impress you or anything. Why do you –Huh?!” I came up short when Seth pulled my lips into his and we kissed under a ray of moonlight shining through the tree branches. How romantic, was the last thought I had before I slipped into a daze, pulling Seth further into my mouth and caressing his with my tongue, motioning for him to do the same. And he did. We stood there, moving our hands slowly around the other, mouths interlocked. But I knew not even Etho could pretend about feelings like the ones I felt from Seth and knew that he actually felt this way about me.

Score, I thought before we went back into the bedroom, hand in hand. We went back under the sheets, and we fell asleep after a few minutes of gentle kissing in each other’s embrace.

- Etho

“Damn it! I hate not being able to do anything!” Nebs yelled out, flipping the last piece of furniture over, other than the bed, which was too heavy for him to flip. I walked over and put a hand on his shoulder to try and calm him down, but he broke away. I didn’t know how to help. Nebs was always so calm and sweet, but this voice controlling us kept him on edge and he was angry beyond anything I had seen from him in a long time. I dropped my hand to my side and sat on the side of the mattress.

“Are you angry Etho?” A voice came from out of nowhere. No, it was The Voice. I looked around the room and saw only Nebris punching the side wall of our room, and he wasn’t talking.

“What do you want? You’re making Nebs paranoid and I would oh so love to stab you repeatedly because of the anxiety you’re causing him.”

“Well, I’m sorry for that, but that comment was quite blunt and hurtful, so I need to show some discipline. But you’ll be fine.” I had only just heard this when Nebris began to cry out. I jumped up and ran to him, to see him grasping his head, eyes shut as tightly as possible.

“No! Nebris!” I cried out. I turned to the ceiling and shouted out to The Voice.

“I am going to kill you, you know that right? You’re attacking my boyfriend, and I will not tolerate that!” And with saying that I took out a knife that I hadn’t had a moment before and threw it at the wall across the room. It flew through the wood and out into the forest, but I didn’t care. I needed to help Nebs.

“Nebs? Nebs!” I yelled out to get him to wake up. His cries had lessened to whimpers by now, but he wasn’t waking up.

“WAKE UP NEBRIS!”

- Nebris

I woke to a headache and an obvious lack of light. I stood, testing the ground beneath me and looked around. I saw only blackness, except for…

“Who are you? Where is this? What are we doing here?” I called out to the figure I saw hiding in the shadows. Then it hit me. The Voice, the “new map” and that Some of the Mindcrackers weren’t here, Etho and I in the same room. Etho! He had tried to keep me calm, but I had fought it. I needed to get back to him.

“Well, I know you’ve figured it out by now that I’m the voice you all are hearing, so I can’t let you leave now. But I’ll tell Etho for you. Or I might just decide to kill him and bring you his body.”

“No! Leave Etho out of this!” I yelled out before I felt more pain in my head, almost to painful to stand.

“Enjoy living in this darkness Nebs. I might come and keep you company sometimes. Or maybe I’ll send Etho to join you here either in a coma or a bodybag. Bye!”

“No…” was all I could choke out before the darkness closed in on my body, thrashing my mind and shattering my coherent thoughts.

- Kurt

“Day two everyone!” The Voice called out to the eight of us gathered in the main hall of our cabin. Etho and Nebris hadn’t come out of their room yet.

“Aren’t we going to wait for Nebris and Etho?” I asked. Beef, Pause and Guude all mimicked, knowing if they didn’t compete they might face some sort of penalty.

“Only if they feel like showing up. Get them up if you feel like it. I don’t care.” I walked over to their door and knocked. I heard no response, so I opened the door and nearly shouted out in surprise.

“Etho! Nebs! Are you okay?” I asked and the others crowded the doorway and looked at the room. Etho was kneeling over Nebris, who was having what appeared to be a seizure. His eyes were wide open and were pitch black as opposed to their normal violet color.

“Stay away from Nebris!” Etho snapped out as Beef reached his hand over to feel Nebris’ pulse. Beef recoiled into my arms, and I moved him aside.

“Etho! Snap out of it! Are you okay? What happened?” Etho began to sob loudly, and I grabbed him.

“I was speaking to the voice and he took something out on Nebs. I- I- Nebs! I’m going to kill you, you son of a…”

“Etho! Don’t do that. He might hurt you now, and Nebris wouldn’t want you to do that, would he?” Etho sat down and began to sob into Nebris’ vest.

“Let’s go guys,” Guude said from behind me. The others were already leaving. I sighed, and put and hand on Etho’s shoulder to tell him I would help him. I followed after Beef and we all went out into a clearing nearby.

“Your task for today is to do a scavenger hunt in the forest. I have given you all a paper with the item list on it. You have until sunset. Get on it!” A pop and silence followed the final sentence. We all wished each other luck and set off in different directions to gather all the items we needed.

- Pause

“So we have everything, Guude?” He nodded to me, going over the list once again.

“Yeah guy. Everything’s here.”

“Nice. And we’re first back. So we win! Right?”

“Of course,” came The Voice from out of nowhere. Guude and I jumped, not expecting anyone else to butt into the conversation. “So you’ll have some more supplies in the chest in your room. Enjoy sleeping better tonight. I even threw in a few extra things for your late night pleasure time.”

“Oh God!” Guude exclaimed. “You were watching us?! That’s weird, guy!” I just shrugged my shoulders, not really caring. Who cares if he’s gay for our relationship when we’re already doing that? I pulled Guude over to our room to get an early start, but when I saw the room, I needed to take a minute. It was covered with lavish-looking carpet and a new bed with clean, bright red sheets. Guude walked over to the chest to reveal a few things that made both his eyes and mine light up with lust. I licked my lips and pushed Guude down onto the bed, pulling his pants down to his ankles.

“You want to try something new?” I asked him, moving to take one of the items we had needed to gather: the Slimeballs. Guude saw what I had grabbed and nodded his approval.

- Aureylian

“But we were only a few minutes behind Guude and Pause. And we don’t get anything for it!? What kind of rule is that?” I yelled out angrily at The Voice. Vechs and I had sprinted through the forest to try and catch up to Guude and Pause when we saw them ahead of us, but we hadn’t quite caught up.

“That’s the way it works around here. Be faster about getting the saddle next time.” Vechs cursed under his breath at that, knowing he had slowed our team down when he couldn’t go in the room without getting injured. They had taken the time to go get a lava bucket before entering the dungeon. I knew he blamed himself for it now, so I decided to do something to distract him.

“Anything else we need to do, oh great and powerful voice?” I asked sarcastically. The Voice tsked me, but replied no, so I pulled Vechs out of the cabin and into the woods.

“I thought you might want to take a walk,” I told him. He nodded, still upset about losing. I turned to face him, making him stop abruptly and look down to my eyes, which were at about the height of his chin.

“Vechs. Snap out of it. I don’t care that we didn’t win. We’ll just do better tomorrow. It’ll be fine even if we don’t get rewards for second place. If we don’t get blankets and clothes and stuff. Remember last night? We can just do that again.” I saw Vechs eyes light up with my suggestion to repeat last night. I felt myself move closer to Vechs, and gave him a peck on the cheek, and started to skip away, giggling. Vechs stood there for a moment before he gave chase. Another night spent having fun, I thought happily. Maybe this place wasn’t the worst possible place to be…

- Etho

“Nebs… wake up. Please…” I whispered to him, even knowing he wouldn’t hear me. I didn’t care. I had to get him back. His body had become less visible throughout the day, as though he were being taken somewhere by a strange power. I replayed the previous night’s events to a specific moment that had caught my attention looking back at it. I made a dagger appear in my cloak, and it flew through the wall of the cabin. Could I affect the laws of this world? No, of course not would be the immediate response any other time, but when I tested again, there was another knife, and this time it was a purple hued blade with a black hilt, reflecting my thoughts of Nebris. I took it from my palm and sliced it across the wood flooring, but nothing happened. It just passed right through, along with the part of my hand touching the knife. I expanded my thoughts of Nebris outward to everywhere in the world that I could see from overhead, and to my surprise, I could see a floating void above the mountains to the north. I focused there and saw two figures talking. One was covered in darkness, but the other was lying there, appearing unconscious. I gasped and felt tears prick the edge of my eyes. It was Nebris, and he looked to be broken and battered by something. I moved my sight back to my own body and looked through the walls, and grabbed another knife, this one blood red, obviously showing my anger.

“I’m coming Nebs. Just hold out a little longer.”

Part One finished! There will be a few other parts to finish the story, but I wanted to get the prompt swap original portion finished now. Look forward to a few more of these and comment if you liked it!

Yay! this is great! I like the new roommates, they're fun.

Also: SQUUUEEEE!!!!!! You're actually willing to make this into more than one chapter! Endless happiness!!!!

Thing is... I didnt mean ALL of the rooms to be shippy! I put in Seth and Z because I Wanted incompatible people in the same room, so that the whole "sharing a room with an acquaintance" thing could happen. Oh well, its your story, so go ahead.

hmm, maybe the voice can start messing with the relationships? You could even change the rooms around.

Also, the idea of Etho fighting the voice is interesting. I kind of expected the plot advancement of the story would be the challenges getting more difficult and the group struggling to survive due to the meager supplies given to them, but this is also an interesting (even more so, especially in conjunction) idea.

Anyway, I'm really interested to see where this is going!
