Regret is a Powerful Thing: Bonus Ending Part 1/2
Sunday, July 13th, 2014 12:08 pmHere it is, as requested. I was having a hard time thinking of how I could add on to this story, but finally came up with an idea. The idea is that if you die you can respawn, but the damage you sustained before death stays with you after you wake back up.
Anyways, I hope you enjoy! :D
Etho’s POV
Etho felt something warm spread across his face. His hands grasped what felt like grass, and when he pulled it out the smell of dirt drifted through the air. As he opened his eyes, he was greeted with clouds swimming in a blue background. The warm sun was shining down on him from its position in the sky. Wasn’t he supposed to be dead? After death he was given a second chance… Etho was completely unaware that it was even possible. When he tried to sit up, he felt an excruciatingly sharp pain in his side. Blood was trickling down from where he had stabbed himself. He grimaced and put his hand over the wound, forcing himself to stand up. He nearly screamed as the pain shot through his entire body.
He pulled his mask back over his face, and scanned the area. The glare of the sun made it hard to see, so he shielded his eyes with his hand. An almost endless looking plains biome expanded before his eyes, the grass was blowing in the wind and flowers grew everywhere. He brushed dirt off his vest and his pants. He had to find something to bandage his wound with. Finding some reeds would be his best bet for a temporary bandage, so he started walking. Each step he took was light, if he took his time it made it easier to bear with the pain.
The sun was directly above him by the time he found a river. He spotted some reeds growing a little ways down and quickly grabbed some wood to make a crafting table. He collected the reeds and crafted some paper for a makeshift bandage. He lifted up his shirt, put a clump of wool on the stab wound and wrapped the bandage around his torso. The blood had stained part of his clothing a deep red color.
“Guess it’ll have to do,” Etho sighed.
He gathered a little more wood to make some basic tools and spent the rest of the day searching for food. The sun slowly moved through the sky until it was gone and the moon came out. Etho set up a small base to make it through the night. Nothing special: just a wood hut with a door and a few torches. Etho used the wall for support and slid down to the floor. He couldn’t make a bed, so instead he sat against the wall and stretched out his legs. He changed his bandages and ate a piece of steak before closing his eyes. He felt lonely being out in the middle of nowhere all by himself. If he respawned, where were Pause and Beef? As he was drifting off to sleep, Etho silently hoped he would see his friends in his dreams.
Beef’s POV
Beef sat at the work table and scratched his beard. The crackling of the fire was the only noise in the room. Moonlight flooded through the windows and cast shadows along the walls. Beef’s hands were shaky and clammy, a seemingly permanent side effect from the potion he and Pause drank before they died. He stared down at the two diamonds and sticks that were laid down on the crafting grid. He needed a new pickaxe but was one diamond short.
“Pause must have used some diamonds to make a sword or something.” Beef muttered to himself.
He and Pause had been surviving in this world for about a month. He remembered their first day like it had just happened. The two woke up in a grassy field confused and dazed. They built a house and just recently found their first diamonds. Beef missed the other Mindcrackers, and he was sure Pause did too. It was lonely without Guude’s laugh and the B-team’s mischief. Considering they had respawned, that must have meant others would arrive eventually. He blinked the sleep out of his eyes. Pause wasn’t back from his food run yet, which wasn’t like him. He was about to get up to look for him when he heard the door open and close.
“Hey man, what took you so long?” Beef said loud enough so Pause could hear him.
“We have a visitor.”
Beef quickly stood up, someone else had respawned. Pause appeared in the doorway with a huge grin on his face. Etho was leaning into Pause with his arm slung around Pause's shoulder. He didn't look too good.
"Etho!" Beef smiled. "Pause and I have been waiting for you!"
"Really? I... I thought... I'm so sorry, I didn't mean for you two to die." Etho said quietly.
"Don't worry about it, it was an accident. We're all here now, aren't we?" Pause said as he and Etho sat on the couch.
Beef noticed Etho was holding his side. There was dried blood under his fingernails, and he winced whenever he moved. They brought Etho a golden apple and properly bandaged his wound. Pause told Etho he should take it easy for a while so it could heal, Etho didn't object.
"Etho, how did you die? You ended up here, so something must have happened," Beef asked curiously.
"Oh..." Etho looked down at the floor. He shook his head and didn't respond.
Beef and Pause met gazes. The knowing look in Pause's eyes told Beef everything, and he decided to keep it to himself. Etho must have been through a lot.
Anyways, I hope you enjoy! :D
