In other less important news, Sevadus officially has joined Mindcrack, and the Mindcrack vanilla server is set to reset on July 19. Do you guys think it's too soon? Maybe they know when 1.8 is gonna be released. Any guesses fro the secret season 5 plans?

I can't help but feel it's a little too soon. They're right that people are tired of this map and it has been over a year but it still feels so soon. I've read that the fact that there's been less versions of minecraft through season 4 than there was season 3 that might contribute to this feeling. Any thoughts on why it feels so short? What about if they copy over the UHC monument like some people are speculating?

There's been a heated discussion about the constant association of salad with smut and smut only. Any thoughts on this and any ideas to help get salad known more as the fanfic people and less as the creepy porn people? Personally, I am kinda uncomfortable with the who salad=porn association that's been developing. What I've also seen is that some people on the subreddit and beyond are starting to think that any fanfiction is salad. Do you think salad should be solely associated with the dreamwidth and this community or do you approve of the association with all mindcrack fanfic in general?

You mentioned the Salad Skype, which just happens to be the thing I have spent the past two hours to understand. I have no idea how skype works, is there like a salad page like on this site or what. I apologies for my incompetence but if you could give me a bit of help to find the salad stuff on there or whatever. I don't know whay to do, much confuse very lost, so need.

Skype is a messaging client, where you can call or message people on. Social networking platform, if you will. There isn’t a Salad page on Skype, rather two group chats running (SFW and NSFW). Eighty or so Saladers are currently on SFW, fifty or so in NSFW. You have to have a Skype account in order to join, and it’s just basically where you can chat with other Saladers. We can add you in if you’d like. :)

So I saw all the stuff about people complaining that Vechs had gone too far with the Salad mentions and helping with the myth that Salad=smut but it didn't seem like anyone was going to actually ask him so I bit the bullet and sent him a PM on reddit. I really didn't want to cause I didn't really agree with everything that was discussed but this is what I said:

So there are some members of the Salad who would like it if you toned down the Salad mentions in videos because they feel its giving it a reputation as only nsfw fanfics by hormonal teenagers when there are a lot of sfw and non-shipping fanfics on it. (which are awesome btw)

I sort of agree, although I think they're being too blunt in their blaming of you. But it didn't look like any of them would actually ask you so I'm biting the bullet for them, cause I guess you sort of recognize who I am from what weird interaction we've had. I'm sorry if this bothers you and you don't have to respond. I just wanted to help them actually state their complaints instead of just chatting among themselves.

And I just got his response and honestly it makes me sad :(

Okay. I figured you'd like the shoutouts, but I won't ever mention that site again.

It validates my opinion that Vechs thought he was helping us with all the mentions and the shipping stuff. And I have it from a very reliable source (Vechs himself) that he doesn't go looking for fanfiction. If he gets curious about something that pops up on tumblr or whatever, he'll look at it but he doesn't suggest fanfics for his own amusement.

Personally I do find his response really sad because I did really enjoy the shoutouts, because he was acknowledging a little corner of the mindcrack community I felt particularly a part of. But I guess I appreciate Vech's sense of humor and fun and don't take it as seriously as others, and many others (e.g. people from reddit and those who don't know the salad well) have taken it all the way it wasn't intended. Vechs has always been quite controversial, but it's nice to know that he really cares enough to step back when we ask of it.

Personally, I feel the reset is far too soon. Too many unfinished projects. Etho really only finished one project that was his alone, that being EthoCorp, which was a community build. Aurey hasn't finished renovation of the mansion, ect.

I'd totally support copying the UHC monument into the next map, since it's mostly a symbol and doesn't serve a real purpose like most builds. I've run a personal Minecraft server since I got Minecraft, and I use MC edit to put things into the map if they don't really effect gameplay.

Maybe season 5 will be completely PvP? Can't think about that, it's too late at night for me. :P

As for the Salad-smut connection, some people see all fanfic that way. I know I judged fanfic way too hard for a long time. I have no suggestions for fixing it though. Maybe try to get people to come look at the not smut fics?

And the salad/all-fanfic connect... If this is the only place people find Mindcrack fic, then they're naturally going to make that connection. So... Yeah, I got nothing. Not sure I think it's a good connection though, since there's probably plenty of good fic out there that's not on salad.

So, there's my two cents. Too long? Too soon? Still trying to figure this out :P

This isn't the only place where there is fanfic. Tumblr, wattpad, and a tiny sprinkle on ff.net all have some fanfic.
Another thing with teh salad name is it's something given specifically to us by MC so it does have a bit of a special history to it.

True. But Salad was getting shoutouts, and if people didn't/don't think about the fanfic before hearing about us, they might assume this is the only place to find it.

Everyone has been saying that the reset is too soon, but I feel like whenever they decide to reset there will always be a few really good builds that are unfinished. The truth is that the server is super dead at the moment, and that something should be done about that. So I'm pretty chill about the reset. That being said, I'm not one of the people who has been regularly keeping up with any majorly unfinished builds there, so that's why I'm not as fussed. I would like the UHC monument to be a stable thing for all future vanilla server seasons though.

I totally agree that the salad-smut association is everything to do with the general fanfiction-smut association a lot of people have before really understanding what fanfiction actually is about. It's a very hard perception to change. What I wonder is whether getting better known, less exclusive and have the non-nsfw stuff recommended to those outside of salad would be better, or whether we're better off just closing off the ones who don't understand and staying exclusive to those who do appreciate making fanwork of all kinds. Or is there some kind of middle-ground or compromise? Just stay how we are? I dunno.

I would like 'salad' to be exclusively our codename on this dreamwidth site like it was originally though. Just because others misunderstand the salad mentions outside of here, doesn't mean that we need to just give away the term... right?

I feel like the reset is too soon. I was away at a party when it was announced and when I got back on the subreddit, everyone was like "New map! New Mindcracker!", very confused and a little sad about all the unfinished projects. Then again, I really enjoyed the beginning of the map when people seemed to be playing a lot more. I want to see more people playing vanilla (since I never got into the modded stuff) and doing co-labs.

I do think that the reset is really soon, but it's probably because I only really started watching Mindcrack about a month after this season started, and the year has flown by.

I used to read very little fan fiction, and I kind of saw it as a lot of smut back then. There really are a lot of great fics that don't involve anything of the sort. As far as ideas go, I'm not the best person to ask about that. I've never been really good in the ideas department.
