Such amazing responses to the last chapter! I love you guys! Next chapter here and there's a section that has lots of technical mumbo-jumbo, so you don't really need the info if you don't understand or want to read it.
Two other things:
-Check the comments for a surprise thingy (the vocabulary in this opening is amazing)
-I'm going on vacation tomorrow, so these might come out slightly less often
Enyoy reading and comment on the story and thing in the comments!

“So you actually remember me, Etho? Me and my expectations? Well I hope you have results I am looking for. So what news do you have for me?” Etho felt a rage building in his chest. He hated his employer’s condescending tones with everyone he talked to. If he could, he would definitely kill Baj right here. But if he did that, they would have to worry about escaping every assassin in the world, because that’s what Baj’s fellow council members would do. So he swallowed his feelings and answered Baj.

“I have apprehended the male mage and he is currently in a holding cell. The female’s location will be revealed once we enlist the help of this man, who will provide us with a truth serum that can manipulate even one with magical prowess,” Etho told Baj, motioning to Doc when the truth serum came up. Baj looked to Doc and Doc looked nervous, but tugged on his lab coat to straighten it and brushed of plant dust from the sleeves.

“So,” Baj said to Doc. “How does the truth serum work?” I raised my eyebrows in surprise. I hadn’t expected that from Baj. Doc, I hope you have something good, I thought, glancing in his direction. But Doc’s attention was focused completely on Baj. His response came only a second later, and what he said, being a complete lie, was astounding.

“The serum utilizes a particular mixture of chemicals that affect the brain and by extension, portions of the body, to ease the victim into a state of weakness, where they will be more trusting of the individuals they come into contact and speak with. This results in a trance-like state where the victim will answer nearly any question asked with a minimal dose. With larger doses, the victim will tell any and all secrets, but risk traumatic brain injuries or reduced motor skills from the chemicals effects on their body.” I looked at Pause, who’s mouth was probably agape under his scarf. Mine was opened as widely as I thought it would stretch without dislocating. How did Doc know exactly what to say? But it didn’t stop there.

“Explain the chemicals makeup and effect of each individual chemical, if you would please.” Baj again. He really needed to get off of his high horse and accept the fact that Doc was outplaying him. Definitely a worthy ally, I thought to myself. And he replied even more spectacularly.

“There is ethanol and scopolamine that act as the sedative in the mixture. They cut off higher cognitive function in the brain. The hypnotic benzodiazepines in the mixture are ketamine and temazepam are the immediately acting substances that allow the victim to trust their interrogator as soon as they speak to them. And finally, the short acting barbiturates, sodium thiopental and sodium amobarbital, which perform a similar effect to that of the benzodiazepines. The barbiturates also cause amnesia of the events while under their effects in most subjects,” Doc concluded. His words were met by silence. Astonished silence. Baj, who had been grinning, confident that he had found a flaw in their plans, was just standing mouth agape like the others, myself included. I had no clue what he Doc had been speaking about, but I was glad I had decided to tell him about our plans. Without his medical knowledge, Pause and I would be on the run from Baj by this point.

“Well…” Baj began. “I see your colleague knows his information about your serum. See to it that you obtain the female mage quickly and tell me immediately this time. This may not be the last surprise visit you receive from me yet. I just stood there and nodded in response to Baj, still shocked at Doc. But when Baj left the room, I recovered and began to move to the holding cells.

“We have the antidote, you two. No need to worry. Let’s go now,” I said opening the cell doors and letting Vechs and Paul out. I then made my way through an empty cell to its far wall and pushed it open slightly. But I remembered something before I left completely.

“Vechs, can you see what is at the end of the hall beyond this door?” I asked him. He obliged, albeit slightly confused, and when he finished his look around, he shook his head for some reason. Crap, I thought. Baj put guards by my escape door. Then we need to get out in a bloodier fashion.

“Alright. We can’t go out this way. Doc, do you have any weapons? We’re going to be fighting our way out of this one.” He nodded and lifted one side of his lab coat. He had revealed a treasure trove of labeled bottles, vials and pockets, all of which contained a poison, chemical, herb, leaf, or root of some sort. I grinned at him, a grin that he returned. I made a move back to the door and we all stepped out into my office.

“Alright Vechs. You have your knives and short sword. Paul, do you have something to use as a weapon?” I asked the older man. He nodded, and pulled a thin shaft of metal from underneath his travelling cloak.

“And what is that, may I ask?” Paul just looked me in the eyes and pressed a button on the side. The shaft extended into a long quarterstaff, one that he looked quite capable with from the way he spun it absently in rapid circles.

“Alright. I approve. Everyone’s geared up, so let’s get out of here,” I told my small band of men, who let out a yell of agreement.

-

I led Vechs up onto the roof of the building, getting him ready to attack Baj’s troops. He nodded to me and I felt a prick of power as he summoned a magical attack of some sort. I went back down into the main entrance to see how everyone else’s preparations were going. Doc and Paul were over to the side, mixing together some more potions. Paul seemed like a natural at brewing the potions and I constantly heard Doc giving Paul applause for his work. Pause was over in a side room, gathering weapons for him, Vechs and me. He found a katana and handed it to me, so I swung it quickly to feel the balance, which was good for an average katana. I thanked him as he went to give a few throwing knives to Vechs. Everyone was busy doing something except for me, so I felt the need to do a little reconnaissance. I opened up a window in the back of the building and crept out, shielded from prying eyes by magical shielding. I just looked like whatever was behind me from the outside. I ran up to the front of the building and saw a number of tents and a large mass of people in uniform standing and sitting, gazing up at their commander and Baj, who seemed to be giving directions to the soldiers. I counted up seventy men and then climbed the wall to stand on the small ledge that hung over it. Baj walked over to the door and began to knock. And to my surprise someone opened it.

“I came to discuss… wait! You’re…” Baj broke off his words when I lunged down from the overhang and put a knife to his throat. I then saw Paul standing there, about to club Baj with his staff.

“So, how'd it go? Get some good info?” Paul asked nonchalantly. I shrugged saying, “Pretty well. We got some info on their numbers and I just so happened to catch a snake on my way back inside.” Baj tried to throw out an insult, but I tightened my hold on his throat and he shut up. And then hell broke loose.

“Commander Baj?” came the voice of one of the soldiers. Then he saw Paul by the door and Baj, clutching his throat, still unable to see me for my invisibility spell, and yelled out to his comrades, “Commander Baj is being attacked! Kill them!” I sighed in annoyance and flung Baj through the door into the building, and Paul tied him to a column. Doc appeared by the door with us and Pause was running up to the roof. I reappeared, and then realized that Paul had known I was at Baj’s throat only moments before and couldn’t see me. Or could he? I decided to ask him later though, as twenty men rushed our position by the door. Then suddenly the man leading the charge stopped and fell to the ground. An arrow had pierced his throat and come out the back and the other soldiers watched as more of their comrades were being picked off in a similar manner. Pause really knew how to use his bow, I murmured to myself at seeing his expert handiwork. Only three of the twenty remained standing, most dead before they hit the ground, a few wounded badly. I rushed and stabbed the remaining three before they could react, and they fell just like their comrades had moments before. Then I heard Vechs’ voice come from the rooftop.

“Vulcan, demon commander of the fire legion, rise to bury thine enemies in ash!” he called out, his voice echoing all around the courtyard, and a large portal of orange and black opened up behind him. I then felt myself grow warm in my normally cool clothing and I felt a prick over power come from the ring of fire behind Vechs. And then came an arm, landing mere feet from Vechs’ form, still saying an incantation in a quiet voice, commanding the demonic entity he had summoned. Then came the grotesque head that made me, Paul and Doc gasp at it. It was deformed and half of it was burned to a blackened skull, the other half covered in rotting flesh, all of it strangely colored. I saw reds, greens, pinks, and a bit more blackened skull showing through. I felt the need to throw up when the smell of it hit me like a wave. I barely avoided doing so, but couldn’t help but to double over and gag slightly from the smell of burned flesh that covered the courtyard like a blanket (albeit a disgusting smelling one). I resorted to using only my mouth to breathe. The others soon reached the same conclusion. When I looked back up at it, the body had come through, and was colored similarly to the head, but had large areas where bone was exposed, mainly on the spinal column. And once the demon was fully through, it began to dissolve and the dust enveloped Vechs’ cloaked form. When he rose again, his gaze showed a look of pure evil, and I was unsure of what to think about what condition Vechs was in. Would he fight for us or against? He soon answered this, by yelling out a phrase I knew would finish his incantation and his devious smile returned and his eyes flashed with his accumulated power.

“Igneus Infernus!” Vechs shouted out and then flames erupted beneath all of the enemy soldiers’ feet and engulfed them. All but two had fallen to the blazes and the one closest to my position suddenly drew an arrow to a bow he didn’t have a moment before and aimed directly at Vechs. I felt time slow as he ran as fast as he could over to the man. He had a slight glow to his body, likely from a magical shield, and his arrow burned slightly at the tip. He looked into my eyes and winked at me, firing at Vechs. I reached him only a second too late. I flung him to the cobbles and knocked him unconscious and looked at the arrow speeding at Vechs and his now tired body. The spirit had left once the spell had been cast, and his chest was heaving from the exertion of the spell. I knew I had only one shot, and I weighed the need to save this man I had only really known for a day versus my need to protect my own body. I made up my mind and began to move my hands quickly in a rhythm of odd movements and muttered a few key words under my breath, knowing no words for this spell. I just called upon as much power as I possibly could, pouring my heart and soul into the few words I spoke. A bright blue and ash grey bubble surrounded me, and I was gone from the courtyard with a loud pop. I reappeared in front of Vechs, and I instinctually grabbed my katana and slashed at the arrow. My slash was spot on. The arrow split into equal halves, flying away to either side of Vechs and I. I paused for a moment, and then took up a similar position to Vechs, but more from relief than exhaustion. Although I was worn from my spell, I grabbed Vechs and pulled him to Pause, who had been unable to move during my interaction with Vechs’ assailant. He had just seen me suddenly appear on the rooftop with my katana out and slice the arrow into perfect halves. He grabbed a weary and grateful Vechs from me as I walked over to him and stumbled a bit, not knowing how heavy Vechs was. Or maybe I was just tired.

I walked back down into the room to see the men who survived Vechs’ flames and Baj tied to columns, all looking defeated and worn. I walked up to then with a smile and released one of my hidden knives, poking Baj’s throat with it slightly.

“So,” I asked them, looking slowly from one to the next. “Who wants to talk first?”

I kinda noticed that my chapter is kinda filling in / assuming some backstory elements..... you might have to check it over when its done to make sure it fits canonically.

Honestly, whoever the archer was should have the next perspective. (Possibly Pyro?) If not the archer then one of the already introduced characters, I think you should give background on a character before giving them a POV. By the way, this is one of the bet fan fics I've read! Keep up the good work!

I think Baj or the archer should get the next point of view. (Gonna make a wild guess and say the archer is Pyro due to the yellow glow and smoldering arrow.)

horray, chapter! I quite like this, and for the most part its all good, but there is one (or well, two, but on is a derivative) problem:

Pronouns. During the fight (post spell), you used WAY too many of them. I couldn't tell who you were talking about. who has the enchanted bow/shield? who was running at whom? I just dont get it....

BTW, i fit was the archer that had the magic stuff, which mage gave it to the archer, and why was he working with the council (and not hunted). If it was the archer, the same questions (but primarily the first) still apply.
