So anyway, Chapter 3. Moar Characters, but there's going to be action next chapter.
No need to worry, not going to continue being so boring.

Etho POV
I lead Vechs and Paul to the gates of my assassin hideout. I dragged them in on ropes and when the guard asked of their identities, I told him they were prisoners. He did nothing to stop our advance further into the keep. After all, who was going to question the mostly capable and highly ranked person at the stronghold? I led them into my personal prison cell. I only put certain prisoners in it, since I had no one guarding it, and I used it as an escape route out of my office and into the rest of the stronghold when I have annoying amounts of people to deal with. Luckily my closest friend here, Pause, who is also the one who lets in guests and is my right hand man on many missions, has learned to keep up the ruse.
‘I’m sorry, but Master Assassin Etho is busy interrogating a prisoner. Please come back in about an hour.’ Pause’s words now echo in my mind. I laugh to myself at how many of my clients I have angered with my “interrogation techniques.”
“Etho, how was last night’s mission,” Pause asked when he saw me turn the corner. Then Vechs and Paul came around the corner after me on the rope and he looked surprised.
“Etho, forgive my intrusion into what is probably personal business, but why are you bringing these two men you have been hunting for almost a year into your personal holding cell? You know what I’m talking about, so don’t play it off.”
“I have more information on the subject of these two and their female companion. Join me in my office after I get these two into the cell. Don’t leave,” I said first to Pause, then to my companions following me. As I was putting Vechs into his cell, he asked me a question I was unprepared for.
“So who was your friend?” I then realized he meant Pause. And I thought about it for a moment and concluded that Pause really was a “friend” of mine. He had always been there for me and helped me when I needed it. So I answered the way I felt.
“Pause. He’s the only other person in this stronghold I really trust with my secrets. He’s also the tenth in command here, so be respectful next time you talk to him.” And then I locked the cell, and went to discuss Vechs and Aureylian’s situation with Pause.
---
“Well. Seems reasonable,” said Pause after hearing my explanation. “So when do you need the root?”
“As soon as physically possible, so I’m planning on going right now to get it. You going to come with?” I asked him, and saw a flash in his eyes. He could hide his excitement like a speck of dust can hide a building. He nodded vigorously and followed a single step behind as I went to the growing rooms.
We came upon the research labs for death shadow. Pause opened the doors and I put on my mask again, to block out the toxic fumes from the number of plants housed here. I saw Pause pull up a scarf as well. I walked in and approached a worker in a white labcoat. He looked startled to see me, and I couldn’t blame him. I never had stepped foot in this building before today, I only delivered the toxin to foes, not to other’s equipment lockers.
“I need one of these plants,” I told the worker. He looked taken aback by the demand, which I found odd. I looked to his nametag on his coat and it read, “Doc M.” I shall remember that name I told myself. He probably knows his poisons well and is clearly invested in his studies.
“But it is blooming season, sir. The plants may die now if moved. I sighed reluctant to go without the entire plant.
“Alright. Prepare me and my comrade and a toxin vial and the antidote,” I told him and he simply grabbed two vials off of a nearby tray like it was nothing. I nodded my thanks, but before I could leave, I heard him ask something quite odd.
“How was it, Etho?”
“What?” I asked, genuinely confused.
“How did it feel to find someone so defeated by the poison we have created here? I know you only need the antidote, because I can see the sheen of poison on your blades. Who is it for? Someone suffer an accident? I can help too.” Doc M’s eyes glittered with hope and I realized I may have an admirer. I guessed he had probably been ill equipped to become an assassin when he first joined and was forced to be on poison work.
“This antidote is for a top secret mission that you can tell no one. It involves our enemies, who are now allies. I may have to kill you now however, so I ask you, do you wish to accompany me and my friend here?” I said this with such ease that Doc stood there for a moment, unable to process what I had said. Then, he simply nodded, and when I moved to the door to leave, I heard his boots following behind Pause and I. Good. Another unique ally. Our strengths were become more diverse and dangerous to our foes by the hour.
Pause and I returned to my office with Doc in tow to find one of the council members there. He stood in front of my doors impatiently and I could tell this was important to the stupid beaurocrat.
“Commander Etho. Come with me to your office with your comrades here,” he said, and I felt extreme unease with how he was doing this sort of thing on such notice. And by that I mean none. He just shows up, I don’t trust a council member to come without setting a meeting day first. I extended one of my knives further and walked on, signaling Doc and Pause to do the same. Doc looked worried, suggesting he was hoping that they hadn’t been caught. I motioned for Pause to go over and cope with him, and help keep his mouth shut as to our plans. I walked in and looked calmly into the man’s eyes. I used to revel in the power of this man, but now I felt only disgust at his ideals and how he dealt with opposition.

Date: Saturday, June 28th, 2014 04:51 am (UTC)I was also hoping that for some of the later chapters, some of the readers would like to submit chapters for individual characters for better development. It would be like short stories that occur in the free time in between chapters. I'll ask for those specifically once I release a character list after chapter 4. SO get your thinking caps ready if you want to participate! ;)

Its a bit strange that everyone etho met agrees with him, but whatever, I know that you want more people with the good guys, so I understand.
BTW, I think other than one or two spot here and there, the smoothness issues have been cleared up.
