In which Thero derps. Hard. Bring tissues.

After much wandering around, we find our way at long last to Mistralton City and its snowing quite nicely, since its now Winter in game. After doing a little wandering around the town, we head up to the next route to make the catch. I'd heard you could get Sevipers here and I do have soft spot for those snake critters so lets see if we can get one!

Ah.

Packrat, male Watchog. Lvl 31 normal type, naughty nature, somewhat of a clown. Illuminate ability, raise chance of meeting wild pokemon. Considering the surplus of normal types and my...dislike of this species, permaboxed pretty much. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against them, I just dislike them.

Anyways, time to grind of the next gym, I thought. It'll be easy, I thought.

Level spike time, the game thought.

I got quite the shock when a trainer battled me with on par level pokemon. Enough of a shock that I didn't realise what was going on, and didn't switch out someone when I should have. My memory fails me at remembering which exact trainer and pokemon it was, but one thing is clear. We lost a friend that battle.

M C Gamer fainted!

I think I mentally bluescreened for close to five minutes in sheer shock. Since evolving, MC hadn't even come close to fainting once, and what I remember is a one hit neutral effectiveness move taking him out. He was the second pokemon caught and has been with us all the way and now he's just gone ;_;

With regret, I placed him into the box in the PC set aside for fallen friends, alongside Avidya. I've named the box Farlands but lets hope Kurt never ends up there. It was time to pick a new team mate and since I still wanted to keep the grass type coverage on my team, I elected for BDubs, the Deerling we'd been given before Clay's gym. I was looking forward to getting him evolved, the winter version of his evolution is quite stunning and majestic.

So, we go to train. Just as we get him up to level 31, I decide to go take on some trainers for the experience, at 4 am when I'm half asleep. Bad idea.

BDubs fainted!

Oh for pete's sake. Really? Excuse me while I curl into a ball in the corner and weep. He was a mere three levels from evolution but my impatience got the better of me. I should have waited.

He was laid to rest alongside MC and Avidya, putting the death count up to 3.

Its then I decide to not go for a grass type again, but instead to pick out Pyro, the Axew from Mistralton cave. Grinding him took no time at all and it was when he was around level 35 I took him to grind on trainers. Just as we hit level 36 with the incredible beast that is Pyro the trainer we're facing throws out a Scolipede, poison type. Easy pickings for a dragon I thought and had Pyro prepare to use dig which would be super effective when it hit, just like every other time we'd faced one of these squirmy critters.

I hadn't expected the bug to be faster. It attacked with Venoshock and Pyro went from full health to nothing, it wasn't even a critical hit.

Pyro fainted!

It was at this point I wondered if I shouldn't just give up.

Pyro was tucked in beside BDubs and we gained a total of 4 dead Mindcrackers. I look back over the others I've trained, Beef, Six, Zorua, Pause and Vechs, and decide that I still need the type diversity. I headed to the Celestial Tower past the route where we caught Packratt to see what we could get.

Blame, male Litwick. Lvl 28 ghost/fire type. Naughty nature, capable of taking hits. Flame body ability burns on contact.

I decide to box him for the moment and look over our choices. I still wanted grass typing and that really only left us two choices. Millbee at lvl 15 or Doc at lvl 24. Millbee was pure grass type and Doc was grass/bug and though we have Guilty covering the bug type with electric/bug typing, I decided to select Doc.

And so the training began.

And it wasn't long until at lvl 30, Doc evolved.

Congratulations! Your Doc evolved into Leavanny!

Once Doc reached lvl 35, the real grinding began. On the way to getting Doc to lvl 40, I would often switch him out with Etho and the result ended up being that Etho hit lvl 41.

Congratulations! Your Etho evolved into Gothitelle!

And...

Congratulations! Your Guilty evolved into Galvantula!

Aww yeah, now we're ready to kick some butt!

Along the grinding journey, a few things happened. We managed to get a Master Ball from the lovely Professor Juniper for one, and a few new moves were taught and some TMs earned at questionable fighting rings on underground train systems.

Lets find out what changed:

Zisteau: Lvl 40, Blast Burn, Flame Charge, Fire Punch, Brick Break
Kurt: Lvl 40. Crunch, Work Up, Strength, Ice Fang
Guilty: Lvl 40. Electroweb, X-Scissor, Volt Switch, Slash
Starlette: Lvl 40. Air Slash, Aerial Ace, Surf, Fly
Doc: Lvl 40. Shadow Claw, Leaf Blade, X-Scissor, Slash
Etho: Lvl 41. Future Sight, Psyshock, Psychic, Faint Attack.

Doc has the most diverse moveset of the lot so far but I want to get him the U-Turn tm from the underground fighting rings that may or may not be legal >_> I got Kurt Ice Fang from the move relearner because it fit well and the other types covered by the fangs are already covered in the team so far. Blast Burn for Zisteau is a move to end things quickly if he's in danger. Brick Break is great because its a lot stronger than Rock Smash and its very handy for dealing a lot of damage.

But now onto the gym!

Looking over the choices I have here, it's easy enough to see that I could use Guilty for this gym as she's electric type but being part bug puts her at a lot of risk - No wait, I just checked, the electric typing must protect her a bit because she only takes normal effectiveness from flying attacks. I swept the flying gym here in Black 1 with my Galvantula, she didn't faint or even get hit much at all. Still, another choice is also Kurt, since he won't be taking any super effective attacks, and neither should Etho. Starlette is another choice. Zisteau is out as he's weak to flying and theres every chance a Swanna will appear which he's doubly weak to. As much as I trained Doc up, he's not going near this gym fight.

Wow, a wind tunnel gym. I almost miss the cannons and it took me forever to work those out.

First fight, Swoobat vs Guilty. One electroweb knocks it out! Win!

Second fight, Sigilyph. Urgh I hate these things D< Volt switch takes it out and we win without needing to switch Guilty out.

Third fight. Archen. These are kinda cool looking admittedly. I do like the evo. Electroweb knocks it out. Unfezant comes in. Volt Switch sends it packing. Win! Guilty levels up!

Fourth fight. Unfezant. Volt Switch. One dead bird. Win!

Fifth fight. Ducklett + Volt Switch = Crispy duck. Switch in Kurt to meet the Swoobat and one Crunch takes care of that. Win!

And now for the final fight, Skyla!

She sends out a Swoobat, lvl 37. Guilty takes it out with an Electroweb and levels up in the process! Skyla sends out Swanna to which Guilty responds with another Electroweb to send it packing. She sends out a Skarmory - wait what? Fffff this could be dangerous. Its still weak to electric but these things are fast. Good luck Guilty! Volt Switch!

Sturdy prevents it from fainting!

Guilty went back to Thero!

Ack, I need someone fast, someone who can withstand a flying or steel type attack...

Your foe's weak! Get em Starlett!

Starlett avoided the attack!

Skyla used the Hyper Potion! Dangit

Starlett used Surf! Down to yellow health, just a little more!

Starlette used Surf!

FOE SKARMORY FAINTED AW YEAH!!

Thero received the Jet Badge from Skyla! And TM Acrobatics.

And then we get blown out the gym and offered a flight to the next town. Travelling in style, oh yes.

...Gosh, I remember when the most 3d thing you got out of a pokemon game was the pokemon bobbing up and down slightly in pokemon battles. Now we're watching planes fly. What a leap!

And now we're in Lentimas Town, which - wow, is half way across Unova. We've skipped over 3 towns! And found a fire stone in the process, yoink. And someone gives us the Charge Beam TM, ooh. Guilty will like that :D

Stepping outside the town takes us to Reversal Mountain, so naturally lets hop straight into the grass!

Driftblim! Lvl 33 Ghost/Flying female. Naive nature, mischievous. Unburden ability, raises speed if a held item is used. Can't think of a nickname right now, so feel free to suggest!

Thats all for this week folks, gonna take me a while to wander through this mountain and get to the next town with a gym. See y'all next time!

Nooo, MC. And Bdubs and Pyro. ;_;

Hmm, name suggestions. Not sure what to make of its appearance, but the mischievous nature catches my eye. Neia or Misconduct?
