This story has no shipping, other than a bit of Vechs and Aureylian, but nothing impeding on the action!
This was brought about almost entirely by this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddFAIkUb7A0
It's so amazing, and I felt like making a story about Aurey being badass after listening.
I hope you enjoy reading as much as I liked writing it.
Comment and tell me if it fits well.

Aureylian sat atop her horse, Myst looking around the ridge where she was surrounded by enemy archers and swordsmen. Her well-trained eyes scanned their ranks for a weak point. Even the holy Valkyrie was unable to spot a weak soldier or lazy archer among Pause’s army.

“You know you can’t battle your way out of this one, o powerful Valkyrie Aureylian,” Pause said to her, sneering at her from his horse. He was covered in navy and red armor, with hints of sky blue, purple, and orange mixed into the metals. He possessed the only existing piece of armor able to withstand a volley of arrows from a distance of twenty feet. But Aureylian knew she could still prevail. She simply lifted her staff and pointed it at him.

“Of course, Emperor of the Death Legion,” she said mockingly. The smirk left his face and he reddened at her comment.

“I will enjoy killing the last and most powerful of the Valkyrie of Winter. Your head and armor will look wonderful in the vaults, next to your sisters in combat.”

“Oh, but you are the only one who will not walk off the battlefield today. All of you who don’t wish to fight, may leave,” she said, addressing his soldiers. They looked around at their comrades hesitantly, but then Pause’s voice rang loud over the confusion.

“All those who attempt to flee will be cut down immediately! Take your positions once more!” The troops steeled themselves once again, and Aureylian sighed in disappointment.

“So sorry,” she said quietly. Then she called upon the divine power of her pure sisters.

“White clouds fell the shadow that has descended upon our fair land!” she cried suddenly as she jumped from her horse, raising her marble white staff skyward. A bolt of white energy shot up and descended on the soldiers of Pause’s army.

“Shoot her down!” Pause shouted to his troops still standing. Twenty shot at her, but her silver robes and thin chain mail underneath stopped the arrows in their paths, glancing off of her unharmed body, a technique she had spent years learning.

“Demoness! Fall before my power!” Pause yelled triumphantly. She whirled to face him, undeterred in her resolve. She drew a short sword from a scabbard on her belt and stood in a defensive stance facing her oldest foe. But when she looked into Pause’s dark brown eyes, she saw a flash of malice and gloating in them. Then he said the unthinkable.

“Vechs, Beef, Etho, come fight this witch and bring her body for me.” Aureylian gasped as she heard the first name.

Vechs. Her husband, her best friend, her only companion besides her sisters in body and spirit. Betraying her. She looked into his eyes, her own teary and his showing complete sorrow, and she mouthed the word, ‘why?’ to him. He just shook his head. She couldn’t stand any longer, but she had to. She fell to one knee, and watched as Vechs slowly walked up to her and took a strand of hair and tucked it behind her ear.

“I…” he began, but she just sobbed once more at the sound of his voice.

“Reduced so easily, Valkyrie? Pitiful. I expected better control over your emotions. Kill her Vechs.” He raised his axe, its broad head reflecting sunlight onto her blade and then from it, into her eyes. And she found the resolve. She jumped up quickly and picked up her fallen blade. The sword instinctively met its foe with full fury. Her fiery will shone in her blade forged of bright amber and sunstones, making it glow like a furnace. She gazed into Vechs eyes, and flashed him a look of sharp betrayal. He relented for a moment and she broke his attack on her and shot a beam of fire at his chest. Vechs fell, feeling a war on the point of impact: his heart.

“Lovely day to face defeat, isn’t it Pause?” she yelled as she ran to slash his throat out of his darkness-filled body. Etho stood in her path and threw a razor sharp shuriken at her face. She twirled her body in a spin motion, her bottom half spinning clockwise and kicking out, her top spinning counter clockwise, sword out to slash the knife. Etho gasped at her acrobatic prowess, which was beyond a level of even him. Her focus shifted to the missile headed for her. She held her sword out perfectly straight and it snapped the shuriken at its center, two pieces flying to either side of her gracefully spinning body. Her body realigned and she flew at Etho like an arrow, completely horizontal from the momentum of her leap and her spin kick. Her blade struck his shoulder and she landed on top of him, pinning him down on the ground. She struck as quick as a viper, slashing Etho’s well made katana in two and she drove her sword hilt into his forehead in one swift motion. She was up off of his still form in seconds and simply flipped her long, flowing crimson hair from her face.

“Jesu- Grrr,” Pause spewed out, mouth agape, astounded at how quickly his most prized assassin lay on the ground unable to fight.

“Beef, get over here. I don’t want you hurt,” Pause told his other general. How nice, she thought. He does have a heart, even if it is corrupted by the demon of Hell’s Gate. She just ran, uncaring of the arrows Pause shot in rapid succession at her blurry form. She moved like a diving falcon, unable to be seen clearly for more than a moment. She leapt up ten feet, enough to clear Beef, who sat atop his horse, a broadsword in hand, who made a lunge to pierce her chest as she ran at him and Pause. I have no quarrel with you Beef, she thought, even knowing he couldn’t hear her. She simply needed to justify herself to her conscience. She landed lightly and was again charging Pause’s position.

Pause engaged her by leaping from his horse and delivering a wide blow that struck a large hole in the rocky hilltop where they fought. Her training had prepared her for this moment, she told herself, but all she could think about was her husband’s face, staring at her, his betrayal obvious. She nearly lost her life to her thoughts in that moment. Pause’s sword whirred inches above her head as she ducked under it, landing on her back, legs in the air.

She then knew how to end it all finally. Pause had left himself open to her unexpected attack. She propelled herself upward with her arms and spun quickly. Her powerful legs struck against the lower parts of Pause’s chest plate and he flew backwards off of his feet, winded. She landed on her feet and without faltering moved over and stood above him, removing his helm to gaze upon his eyes once more. During the encounter, they had shifted from their chocolate brown to a pitch black and she knew that the demon was still bound to his soul. She called upon her sisters for strength and then began the rite to dispel the evils of the demon in caged in the young man’s body.

“O Divine Power and Holy Light, grant me thy power to rid this man of the disease that wracks his body, mind and soul.” The next part of the rite began, and the words filled her mind completely.

“Flowers that bloom in the darkness
It’s a sighting that is rare to come across
Nobody seems to have noticed
That the power that could be bestowed is lost

Riding through the twilight
This armory protects my heart

There’s a voice that is calling
It’s calling for me to go beyond
Where I’ve always been longing
I’m longing to find where I belong
Soon this fight will come to an end
The Valkyrie chose to defend

When we were young; endless wonder
Thoughts of death were not a cause to live slowly
Now the unknowns seem to haunt us
Could this physical experience be free?

What is fate revealing
Will I survive or will I fall?”

Aureylian felt the presence of the demon reveal itself, its terrible black flesh burning with her words. It flew from Pause’s body and formed a solid substance to confront her.

“You wish to dispel one of such power, mere human? Well, have at you!”

It rushed her position and she simply stood, and once near enough to swing at it, she smiled deviously like Vechs had done so many times to her. She flew back upon its impact with her blade, and she let her essence of freedom and willpower flow into her blade. The result was awe-inspiring. A burst of white and blue flames leapt from the hilt of her sword onto the blade, and soaked into the stone that made up my precious blade. She felt a growing power and the stones turned from beautiful amber and sunstone blade to a sapphire and lapis one, making it reflect light in a beautiful sky blue shimmer. The power then focused itself upon the tip of the blade, growing and then shrinking into a thin pinpoint of energy. Aureylian felt the energy and knew its strength. She raised the blade and shot the power at the demon. The flames flew forward almost too quickly for any of the observers to catch. A bright blue and white beam shot from the blade and pierced the demon’s form, which proceeded to catch fire and disintegrate. A deathly cry erupted from the monster and Pause, as the demon was destroyed for eternity by the power of the flames.

“This human just saved the one who ruined her life from you. Die with that knowledge, you disgusting thing,” Aureylian called out to the demon, tears beginning to form in her eyes. A tear rolled down her cheek and fell onto the grass to her right. The wind on the mountaintop whipped her hair into her face, and she stood there, head down in agony from her husband’s betrayal. Then a finger gently caressed her cheek to wipe away a tear. She looked at the person in question. It was Pause, who had come to thank her for what she had done. But she needed comfort now, not thanks, so she allowed him to grasp her against his chest and they sat down on the rocky hilltop, her will strong, but her heart shattered and weak. But it wasn’t her place to deal with such things. After all, she lived only to serve now. Emotions were merely a second to duty. But she let go this once, unable to move on.

She and Pause just sat, needing the comfort of each other. Vechs and Beef had since fallen asleep, but the two who were archenemies only hours before sat with the other, Aureylian needing a helping hand through her grieving over Vechs’ betrayal, and Pause needing comfort for his terrible actions under the demons’ control. Slowly, they managed to fall asleep once the moon hit its peak in the sky. She sought the comfort of her sister in her dreams, submitting herself into their ranks as the greatest Valkyrie of their time.

She just wished it hadn’t left her without feeling where joy had lived

interesting... if a little strage and melodramatic.

also yay verylian!... if tragic, but wadebah.

I like it... but I think Aurey is a bit OOC. I doubt there is anything you can do to fix it (it might even be just me), but... If you've watched sunburn islands, I just dont think of Aurey as badass. Capable, perhaps, but a badass does not run run two zombies (while the person has enchanted iron gear) screaming.

yeah, I can understand that, even if I dont subscribe to the view you're showing. Yeah, okay, I was just trying to make sure and give constructive criticism if you (surprisingly) didnt.

I totally understand you there; creative licence precedes all. By the way, ignoring the OOC (just by thinking of them as random OCs, and ignoring the obvious plot/writing holes that would create), the story is really quite good.

yeah... and It's one of the EASY maps!
