Uhh yea… Here we go.
~:<Beef>:~
It is a very cold morning. So cold in fact, that I can see my breath as it leaves my lungs and every breath makes me colder. I shiver.
“You coming, Beef?” Pause asks, ready to walk outside into the cold morning air.
“Yea, but how about we get coats or something,” I say. “It’s freezing out here.”
“Sure, now that you mention it, it is a bit cold out here.”
Pause and I jog through the castle to the dormitories. The further in we get, the warmer it gets.
“I’ll beat you to the dorms!” Pause suddenly shouts as he sprints past me.
I struggle to catch Pause at the best of times, so when he sprints past me, I always have to find a shortcut to even have a hope of beating him. I sprint around a corner that leads to a slightly shorter route. I then climb two flights of stairs before turning another corner. Looking behind myself I notice Pause at the end of the hallway. The smirk on his face shows that he hasn’t seen me yet. I sprint faster. I want him to think he has won. I jog up another flight of stairs and look down. Pause has slowed down to a jog, he shouldn’t be confident seeing as I am five meters from my dorm. I walk to my door and wait.
Oh and the look on his face is priceless. Open mouth, wide eyes. Total shock.
“Took you long enough.” I tease, laughing lightly.
“B-but how did you get here? I was…” Pause trails off, confused.
“Come on, let’s get our coats.” I say, bringing Pause back from whatever little world he was in. He walks past me to his own dorm as I open the door to the one I share with Etho.
Etho is sitting on his bed with a potions book in his lap. His sliver-blond hair is a mess and the navy-blue mask that usually covers his face hangs loosely around his neck. Etho looks up with a smile.
“Where are you going?” He asks.
“I’m going to go outside with Pause. Would you like to join us?”
“No thanks, I’m going to be making potions with Nebris.” Etho goes back to reading his book.
“Okay, see you later.” I say as I leave the room, my coat hung over my shoulder.

“Pause, you never mentioned where we were going.” I rub my hands together and put them in my pockets.
“Oh yea… I didn’t did I…” Pause trails off for the second time today.
“So are going to tell me?”
“Well it could be a surprise…”
“What if I don’t like surprises?”
“Ok then… We are going to the archery range.”
“But we don’t even have bows.”
Pause laughs. “Yea we do.”
I raise an eyebrow.
“You’ll see.” Pause says, the smirk on his face is noticeable.
I sigh. At least I know where we are going now.
We reach the archery range and Pause hands me a bow and arrows.
“Where did you get these from?”
“I have a stash hidden in some plants here.”
“Oh.”

I walk the halls with Etho. His short stride is barely keeping up to my long one. Etho clutches an old book between his arms.
“What you got there?” I ask him, pointing to his book
“A book.” Etho says mischievously
“What kind of book?”
“It’s a book on potions.”
“Oh… I guess that’s why you wanted to make potions today.”
“Uh, yea.”
Etho and I walk into the potions room just as two other people leave.
“Hey boys!” Aureylain greets us with a huge smile
“Hey Aurey!” Etho and I say in unison.
“I would like to introduce you to someone.”
I hadn’t noticed the tall boy standing behind Aureylain until now.
“Hi, my name is Vechs.” Vechs extends his hand.
“Nice to meet you,” I say, taking his hand. “My name is Nebris and this is Etho.”
“Hi.” Etho squeaks, his voice at a higher pitch than normal.
Vechs smiles politely. “I’m going to catch up with Zisteau. See you late Rel Rel!” Vechs kisses Aurey on the cheek before leaving.
“So are you and him…. Together?” I query.
“I was about to ask the same about you and Pause, Nebris. But yes, we are together.”
Etho opens up a page in his potions book and shows it to me. “Burn heal potion.” I read.
Etho bursts out laughing. And after a few seconds, I do the same thing.
“So where are you going now Aurey?” Etho asks
“Oh I’m going to chill with Beef and Pause for a bit, See you!”
Etho and I get to work making potions. We master making a strength potion and we can now make a health potion in less than 60 seconds. We spend three hours in that room.
“I’ll pack up, Etho. You can go.” Etho leaves the room with a small nod of his head.

My shoes barely make a sound on the dark wood flooring. I walk through hallway after hallway. These hallways always feel emptier when Etho isn’t with me.
“We will have to… dispose of them. Can’t have that risk of them trying again now can we?”
I am eavesdropping on a very dangerous conversation here, but I just can’t help it. I move closer to the door that the conversation is coming from.
“What do you propose, my Lord?”
“That we kill them.”
“We can’t kill them, Baj!”
“They tried to kill me!”
There is a bone chilling silence.
“So what would you like me to do, Lord?”
“Find Vechs, he was the one who started it.”
“What would you like me to do once I find him, Lord?”
“Kill him.”
My feet move before my brain tells them to. I run away from that door.
I have to find Vechs and warn him. But where would he be?
I’m going to catch up with Zisteau.
All I know is that he is with Zisteau. I don’t know where Zisteau is either, I know that Zisteau is a few years older that he is, meaning Zisteau’s room is a few stories up. Aureylain will know! I go to Beef’s dorm immediately.

My arms hurt badly. I never thought that using a bow would be that hard on my muscles. I sit on my bed as Pause makes paper aeroplanes with Aureylain. Someone knocks on the door.
I open it to find Etho.
“Etho, you don’t need to knock, it’s your dorm to.”
“Oh ok… I just didn’t want to open it if someone was getting changed or something. That’s all.”
Oh Etho… He is always so polite.
“Heads up!” Pause sends a paper plane flying across the room.
I lie down; I have full view of what is happening outside. The sun gleams through the window.
Nebris busts in and we all hear a scuffle from upstairs.
Nebris turns pale.
There is an ear-piecing cry, then silence.
Suddenly, a body falls past the window.
