Pause and Beef fluff in this chapter. If it's too much, just tell me. I think I left out the worst of the... interesting parts of their interactions ;)

Beef woke to the feeling of ice cold metal on his skin. His head was throbbing in pain like it had never done so before. What had happened he wondered, groaning as he tried to roll onto his back and open his eyes. He heard a rustling of cloth nearby and hoped that whoever was moving them would be able to explain what was going on. He already knew he wasn’t in his bed.
“Don’t move Beef,” came a friendly and calming voice from right next to him. “You’re injured.”
“Pause?” Beef asked, wondering why he was here too. Wherever ‘here’ was. “What… Where are we? Why am I in so much pain?”
“It’s okay Beef. You’re just going to be in pain for another day or two as long as you aren’t exerting yourself too much. As for where we are, it’s a prison of some sort.” Prison? Beef wondered. Did he and Pause get drunk and get arrested for something? Beef moved his arms behind him to try and rise to a sitting position, but his head began to throb so much he felt as if it would explode, so he just sank down again, trying not to throw up all over Pause and himself. Pause lifted his head slightly, laying Beef down across his lap. Beef would have found this motion a small bit weird at any other time, but he was in too much pain to care. His whole world was spinning now when he looked up at the ceiling. It just so happened that a guard walked in at that moment. He saw Pause holding Beef and called over to them saying, “Ooh, Pause. Getting a boyfriend over there? Hope you can deal with him dying on you when he has to face the troops.” Pause glared over at the guard with enough hatred to make him flinch back slightly. The guard was very superstitious and had been told by the guard captain that Pause had hexed one of the men who attempted to capture him. Of course, this was just a joke to keep the man wary of the prisoners. He decided to get out of there as quickly as possible.
“Food’s ready. Take it,” the guard said, quickly giving Pause and Beef some hard bread and a few bites of cheese. He then put food in the next cell over. Beef wondered why, but then his headache roared back to him, making him groan in pain.
“Guard, can I have some pain medication for him today?” Pause asked, implying that he had been trying for a long period of time. The guard sighed.
“Fine,” he said. “I’ll ask Aureylian about it. For now, just treat as best you can.” He then muttered, “Not like he’ll survive long anyway. The guard went off to find this Aureylian, who Pause assumed was the nurse at the prison. Pause sighed in relief when the guard left.
“Hear that Beef? You’re going to be fine. You’ll get better very soon” But Pause also had doubts. Arkas had injured Beef to almost his breaking point. He might not recover from trauma like that.
Pause waited for about an hour before the same guard returned. Beef had finally gotten some of the bread and cheese down with coaxing from Pause. He gently laid Beef’s head down on a blanket so he could go and see what the guard had for Beef. The guard came over and unlocked the cell.
“Huh? Why’re you doing that?” Pause asked, confused.
“Doctor Aureylian and her assistant would like to see the man,” the guard said with a no nonsense tone. Sighing with relief that Beef would get medical attention that wasn’t simple painkillers or restless bouts of sleep, he went over and lifted Beef onto his shoulder.
“Follow me,” the guard said, striding off toward the door he had entered from. Pause followed without question. They walked their way through a few corridors until the guard abruptly stopped at an unremarkable iron door that looked no different than any of the others they had passed. Pause wondered how all the people in this place got around without a map. The guard opened the door and Pause walked in to see the infinitely more inviting room than his and Beef’s cell. A woman with long red hair came walking around a corner and looked at Beef and Pause with a surprised look on her face.
“Is he the one dealing with the head injury?” the woman asked, pointing to Beef’s still form over Pause’s shoulder. He nodded, hoping that Beef would be in good hands. He followed the woman around the corner to a small bed and a table that held few vials containing a variety of colored liquids.
“Lay him down right here,” Aureylian told Pause. He complied and then kneeled down next to the bed.
“Umm…” Aureylian stuttered out, not used to having people watch over her and the patient while she worked unless it was one of her assistants. “Were you planning on leaving or…” Pause cut her off, saying, “No. I need to watch over him.” She stood there dumbfounded at the Pause’s reaction to being asked to leave. He must care for this man a lot, she thought. What’s up with them? Are they lovers, brothers or just comrades? Thoughts ran through her head, and she finally just shook it to clear her mind.
“Alright. Just be quiet. I need to help him, and I can only do that in peace and quiet.”
“Of course,” Pause replied, vigorously shaking his head. He was beside himself for letting Arkas do that to Beef. He could have stopped him. He should have stopped him…
After nearly four hours of examination, Aureylian announced, “Well, he’s going to be okay now, but he’ll need someone to help him walk until his muscles regain some of their strength. By the way, what caused these injuries?” Pause tensed at her question. Should he really tell her about Arkas’ role in the damage? He steeled himself and told Aureylian.
“Arkas,” he said. “Arkas did this to him.”
“Arkas? Well, we shall go have a chat with him once your friend wakes,” Aureylian announced, a slight edge to her voice. Pause wondered if she was angry about Arkas’ actions or Pause’s accusation. Or both. He vowed to keep clear of Aureylian when she was angry, because her knowledge of medicine had obviously come from somewhere, likely from a trial and error method of seeing what worked. Judging from the herbs and assortment of items on a nearby table along with an open book detailing them, she knew a lot about her poisons. As much as he hated Arkas for hurting Beef, he hoped that Arkas wouldn’t have to die slowly from a poison. He wouldn’t wish that upon anyone.
Beef felt like crap. His throat felt like something had torn it to shreds, his head was throbbing, not as badly as before however, and his legs were burning. He lifted his head, and then realized: he could actually lift his head without difficulty! Whatever Pause had given him to help with the pain was working, at least for his headache. He then looked around him to see a small room with a simple bed and a small table with empty vials on it.
“Pause?” Beef called out tentatively. He felt suddenly very alone in such a small, noiseless room. Someone opened the door slowly to avoid any creaking and his eyes fell in dismay when he saw a woman with red hair enter.
“Hello,” she said. “My name is Aureylian. I’m the one who treated your head injuries.” Head injuries? he thought. That must be why I was in so much pain. He then looked directly at her and asked, “Where’s Pause?” She chuckled a bit and said, “He’s just outside the room taking a short rest. He didn’t leave your side until I told him you were completely stable and as a result, he’s gotten almost no sleep last night.” Beef felt a twinge in his heart when she said he hadn’t left him. Pause, he thought.
“Can I see him?” Beef asked after thinking for just a second.
“Not right now. You can go and see him in a few hours after he wakes up from his nap. In the mean time will you take my arm and follow me down the physical therapy center?” Beef asked her why.
“Well, your motor skills were affected when your head was injured. Your legs lost almost any control you had over them and are currently very weak. You’ll need some therapy to regain your strength. Beef nodded his understanding and grabbed her outstretched arm. He sat up fully and moved his legs over to the side of the bed, letting them hang there for a moment, and then put his weight on his feet. The feeling Beef felt in that moment was unlike any other he had felt before. The pain he felt was insane. His legs felt as though a mountain was crushing them. Beef collapsed on the floor right next to the bed and cried out in pain. At the noise, there was a movement in the hallway outside and Pause suddenly rushed in.
“Beef?” Pause asked, tears in his eyes. “Are you okay?”
“No!” he yelled out in reply. “I am definitely not!” He yelled in pain again and Pause came over and lifted him up onto his shoulder. As soon as the weight was off his feet, Beef felt ten times better. He sighed in relief from the pain. Aureylian noticed this and put her hand to her chin. She wondered how much damage Arkas had actually done to him. Would her patient ever be able to walk again? She shook her head, ridding herself of the negative thoughts. Of course he would! She told herself. Or I’ll die trying to find a way!
“Hey Pause,” Beef said tentatively, not wanting to interrupt or startle Pause, since he didn’t want to be dropped on his face.
“Yeah, buddy?” Pause replied looking up at Beef.
“Should someone go get Guude? He’s still in the… wherever we were.”
"Oh. Probably. Do you want to ask Aureylian? It seems like she’s nice enough. That guard probably won’t do it though.” Beef shook his head in agreement, and they went to find Aureylian in the physical therapy room. Beef called her over and asked her what he had asked Pause.
“Of course!” she said. “You need all the help you can get to get back on your feet, so the more the merrier!” She then went off towards the exit, humming a nice tune. Pause then set Beef down on a nearby chair, and they waited for Guude and Aureylian.
Aureylian returned with Guude within thirty minutes. He looked a bit thinner and his beard had become more overgrown than usual and he looked around nervously for a few seconds until he saw Pause and Beef.
“Guys!” Guude yelled out and ran over to them. He drew both of his friends into a great bear hug and only released them when he heard Beef gasping for air. He hurriedly lowered Beef back down to his chair and asked what happened to him. Aureylian had explained some of the situation to him, but he was still slightly in the dark about what had happened. Beef explained the head damage and motor skill issues, Guude just silent throughout the explanation. After Beef finished, Guude grabbed Beef and helped him over to one of the pieces of equipment in the room. As soon as Guude let his body weight down onto the floor, Beef cried out again. Guude picked him back up slightly, deciding if they were going to get anywhere, he would have to put only a little pressure on for now.

Beef could finally walk again without aid from Pause or Guude. He was so happy that when Aureylian had told him, he had just leapt out of Pause’s arms and ran around the room with his arms spread out like a bird’s wings. He started laughing and soon after, everyone else began to laugh too. Aureylian went off quickly, and Beef rushed back over to Pause. He kissed him roughly on the cheek. Pause, not expecting it tensed up, but upon a few moments of realizing his situation, he moved his head, wrapped his hands around Beef’s waist, and embraced his lips with Beef’s. Guude saw the encounter, and slowly backed away and left the room silently. He decided they might need some alone time. He stood outside the door in case Aureylian came back and happened to enter without knocking first. He shuddered at the thought of seeing her gasp at Pause and Beef’s intercourse that was bound to happen. He wasn’t blind. Any time that they had felt the need during therapy or whenever Beef succeeded in completing a certain task, he and Pause went into an immediate make out session. Multiple times he had ushered Aureylian out of the room to avoid having her look at their display.
Beef was having the time of his life. Everything was going right. He could walk again, and that meant he could definitely sustain some serious power for Pause. They made out for a full, glorious five minutes, and they finally lowered themselves onto the floor, and gently began to take each other’s clothing off. Their lips remained locked as much as possible and they just continued undressing each other until they were completely naked. (To avoid a scene too graphic for people under 18 to read, I’ll skip the details. You probably knows what goes in this area ;) Time skip till after they’re done!)
Beef and Pause lay on the floor of the therapy room, gasping from their interaction with each other. They had felt the need for so long, but neither could just show their affection until Beef awoke one day to see Pause coming in for a kiss while Beef had been napping. Beef realized that Pause must feel the same about him as he did for Pause, and he reached up and grabbed Pause, drawing their lips together. Pause had recoiled at first, confused about what had happened. But then he saw Beef and his beautiful eyes. He leaned back down and drew their lips together and both felt so right about it, they just continued that way for an entire hour. They finally broke apart when Aureylian walked in to ask Beef about his training for the day. Pause broke of quickly and rushed to a nearby chair, almost stumbling to the ground from the giddy feeling he felt after embracing his love. Beef just fell back to his bed, letting out a sigh of contentedness, but quickly leaned up to keep Aureylian and Pause from seeing his reactions. He finally just gave up thinking about his past and grabbed Pause again for a second bout. Pause, although still gasping, obliged after seeing the look in Beef’s eyes.
It was almost midnight by the time Pause and Beef came out of the therapy room. They were both swaying on their feet and had their hands on each other’s shoulders for support. Guude just looked at the pair and began to laugh. Aureylian looked away, not feeling comfortable with their display. Arkas, who had been waiting since eight for Beef, looked over at the two, realized why they had taken so long, and started to laugh with Guude, although subduing his laughter more so than Guude had. Once the laughter had died down and Pause and Beef could finally talk without gasping, Aureylian began the conversation about Beef’s injuries and Arkas’ involvement.
“So, Arkas,” she began. “Why did you injure this man?” She indicated Beef, and then stopped, waiting for a reply. Arkas sighed, scooting slightly away from Aureylian’s piercing glare.
“Well… I was bringing in this man as a prisoner…” Aureylian’s reply to his first words cut off Arkas.
“Alright. So you felt it necessary to injure one of the people who would later be asked to join our ranks? You do realize how long you’ve delayed that process for these three men, right?”
“Uh… No to the first question, yes to the second. The native saw me bring in the man and yelled at me to not harm him. I wasn’t thinking, and I did that to goad him into attacking me,” Arkas concluded.
“And?” Aureylian asked, raising an eyebrow at Arkas.
“And he attempted to. I was ready to pound him, but…”
“So you were going to injure not one, but two of three new potential recruits just because you wanted to?” Aureylian asked, a steely edge to her voice. Arkas heard and whimpered quietly.
“Yes…” he replied, looking as though he wanted to sink into the chair he was sitting in. Just after he replied to her, Aureylian drew out of her white robe a pink, blue, and white baton with colorful ribbons on the ends and all hell broke loose. Arkas leapt out of his chair and hid behind the nearest thing, which happened to be Guude. Claws thrust out of his fingers and dug into Guude’s back. Guude spun in circles wildly to get Arkas off of his back, but to no avail. Aureylian began to whisper a few words and her baton began to glow as she spun it around. It surrounded itself with a bright glow and finally overwhelmed everyone in the room with a fiery blast that lifted Beef off of his feet. As soon as that happened however, everything went back to normal. Aureylian put her baton back into her robe; Arkas leapt off of Guude’s back and sat on the ground, looking confused. Beef began to feel strange and he looked at Pause to see if he was feeling the same. As soon as the two made eye contact however, their eyes lit up with lust and they fell to the floor and went at each other. Guude’s back had healed where Arkas’ claws had dug in, and he looked at Aureylian confused. At least that’s what he tried to do. As soon as he looked at her, an uncontrollable urge to help her with anything she needed entered his head. He went over to her and kneeled down in front of her saying, “Anything you ask of me, and I’ll do it!” She just sighed, knowing it was to be expected, and whacked him across the cheek. He gasped in pain for a moment, and then realized what he had been doing. He hurriedly picked himself up and cleared his throat awkwardly.
“Um…” he started out, feeling like he had made the worst mistake since getting captured and waking up in this place. She looked over at him and smiled, saying to him, “It’s fine. My baton controls emotion and affects those with a strong will most effectively. Arkas and your friends were also affected in their own different ways. Each person reacts differently.” She then looked at the room in chaos and yelled in a no-nonsense tone, “Attention!” Pause, Beef and Arkas then shot up like arrows in a military stance, although by this point Beef and Pause were naked again. Guude moved over and stood in the way of Aureylian so she wouldn’t have to see Beef and Pause standing there in all their glory.
“Arkas!” she yelled out, and he caught her gaze immediately.
“Meet Beef in the battle room. Give him a choice of weaponry, and return any weaponry he already owned and was taken from him." Arkas moved to comply, leaving the room. She then called out for Beef and Pause to get back into their clothes and follow Arkas once they were battle ready. She then looked back to Guude and motioned for him to follow her, as he was ready and awake. They headed off, in pursuit of Arkas, and soon Pause and Beef caught up, slightly dazed, but looking fierce and ready for the combat they would inevitably face. They left the calming white of the medical center and headed off into the cold iron tunnels of the fortress.
