Fic: The King is Dead
Friday, June 6th, 2014 04:35 pmA little thing I posted to tumblr a while back. Figured I might as well post it on here as well before I completely forget about it.
Words: 599 (It's a short thing.)

"The king is dead."
Nebris paused in his actions of sharpening his sword. In the weeks he had been hiding in the dark corners of the kingdom, the pitch black blade had barely seen any use and was in dire need of a new sharp edge.
The announcement had gone through the entire kingdom in a matter of hours since the event a few days ago, carried by whispers of the gossip of commoners. This was the first time it was “officially” announced by a public official.
"It’s not just a rumor-"
"Wonder who killed him, wasn’t like the guy was old-"
"Who will take the throne?"
"Good residence."
"Just imagine all the gold that guy left behind-"
Nebris half listened to the whispers of the fellow lurkers in the shadows. He rocked himself into a standing position and placed his sword into its sheath which hung loosely on a belt at his side.
For the first time in a while, he walked out of the shadows and into the light most citizens laughed gleefully in. But this wasn’t the time for him to throw his head back in laughter. It was time to plan.
Walking to the other side of town was easier said than done for a person wanted in more than one kingdoms. That person had to avoid attracting unwanted attention of the guards, but that was hard for someone with such differing features the crowd as Nebris. He stuck out like a sore thumb.
Nebris had made it a habit of tearing down the wanted posters which displayed any similarities to the own features of his faces. Letting the ones with which displayed more fiction in portrait form than truth remain tacked to walls.
Now, he wasn’t out for just a pleasure filled stroll. There was a goal in his mind and he needed the only person he could trust with the information of the mission. That person was currently on guard duty.
It was surprisingly by the church when Nebris found the one he was searching for. A tall man with silver almost white hair and one red eye that one could swear would glow in the dark. This man was known as just city guard Etho here. But his true title held more importance.
In the kingdom that Nebris was one royalty in, the other was known as the master of guild of heroes. Or as Nebris once jokingly called him, “The Sir Master of Dim Wits and Idiots.” It seemed to have been forever since he was referred to that though.
The guard was leaning against the church, letting a small flame created by magic burn in his palm as he watched it with slight boredom.
Nebris walked past him, making anyone who would be watching them think nothing of anything between the two. However, that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Only four words were said by the former prince but that was enough.
"The time is now."
A smirk appeared under Etho’s masked face and his open hand turned into a tight fist.
That’s when chaos erupted. Explosions all around town sounded and fires burned with rage that most people thought not possible. Buildings restored in a matter of seconds, lives crushed in moments, and panic set in after a minute.
But the causes of the madness were far away by that minute. The former prince had teleported them away after it Etho had set it off.
They didn’t need the distractions of guards yelling at them to help right now. There was a throne that Nebris needed to reclaim.

Date: Saturday, June 7th, 2014 12:12 am (UTC)I do, however, know that this is an interesting idea. There is not enough participation from the characters to judge it on the FanFiction level, but the setting in itself managed to spark my interest =) So, well done on that part ^^
