So I'm sitting at work and I start thinking about a way to put a twist on the Vechs/Aurey sleeping prompt. So I made it really really sad >:3
~~~
Vechs walked through the open double doors into the funeral home and was overwhelmed by the smell of flowers. It wasn't right. She wouldn't have wanted this. With all these flowers, no one could pick up each individual fragrance. They blended together into a sticky sweet, almost artificial smell. The smell of all funeral homes.
There were a few people there already, milling about in their black and gray clothing. Even this was wrong. Everyone should be colorful. That's what she would have loved. But even he couldn't stop himself from submitting to the social norm. His suit was black just like everyone else's. The only act of rebellion was the vibrant pink tie. He recognized a few of his friends, who waved sadly from various pockets of the room. But they didn't approach him. They knew where he was going.
Walking down the center of the room, his heart pounded in his chest. He came upon the casket almost suddenly, as if he hadn't already seen it. His eyes looked up at the dull ceiling and he felt for the carved wood to lean on. He took a deep breath, trying to remain calm. Tears were already collecting in the corners of his eyes, waiting to fall. It seemed an eternity until he finally looked down.
It was true what they said. She really looked like she was sleeping. It was like none of it had happened. He imagined her opening her eyes and laughing at him, accusing him of being a creep for watching her while she slept. He managed to giggle to himself for a moment before the tears finally broke loose. He didn't know if was taboo or not but he reached into the casket and brushed his hand across her bright red hair.
"We...we shared some...moments, huh?" he murmured, his voice cracking.
She didn't answer. She slept.
I also like the way this is set up, giving just enough information to not fall short and still shine strong.
Well done ^^
