College Is Magic Chapter 11: Learn Your Spells
Wednesday, April 30th, 2014 08:28 pmHeheheh... It's been a very long time since this has been posted. I've been quite busy with school and holidays but I decided that I should stop procrastinating and start writing! So sorry for lateness, but it's here! It hasn't been abandoned!
I apologise in advance for the terrible spell names...
---
The teams congratulate each other stiffly, but as soon as the injured were taken away, Team Mainstream went wild. Red felt like she was going to go deaf from all the praise she got. She tried to brush it off and run away from it but wherever she went, her team seemed to be there.
Team Young however were quite sullen. Tsu and Purple had been carted away by the healers, and Tom insisted that he accompanied Purple. The ones who remained kept blaming themselves for their downfall. But there was really nothing they could do about it now.
There were quite a few casualties for the other team as well. Rose, Book, and Wild all had serious injuries. They were whisked away like Tsu and Purple. Kappa noticed how down they were and decided they needed some cheering up. "You nearly had us you know. I'd love a rematch someday!"
Kappa held a hand out to Hawser. She grinned and shook it. "I'd be happy to have a rematch, it was fun." Kappa smiled and nodded before rejoining her friends.
Sis leant on Hawser's shoulder. "Let's go get some food, Dark is gonna wait for Tsu and who knows how long Purple will be."
Hawser nodded. "Yeah, come on, I'm hungry!" She races out of the door with Sis in tow.
----
Tsu winced as the healing magic fixed the cracked bones in her neck. "Is it almost done?"
"Be patient just a few more minutes, then you can rejoin your friends."
Tsu shifted a little. Suddenly, there was a sharp pain and the tingly feeling of the magics cut off. "Huh?"
"All done, go meet your friends." The healer led a confused Tsu out of the door back into the main room they were all led to after the match.
Dark jumped up as she saw Tsu arrive. "Tsu!"
Tsu turned and saw Dark running towards her. "Hey Dark, thanks for saving my ass out there."
"It's nothing, are you ok?"
"I'm fine, where's the others?"
"Sis and Hawser ran off to eat..."
"Honestly, we better catch up with them!"
"Wait what?" Tsu grabbed Dark's arm and dragged her outside. "Tsuuuuuu!"
----
Doc faced the class, a grin on his face. "Alright guys, did you all enjoy the first arena fight? Now you may have noticed Team Mainstream had charms. Today, I'm going to teach some basic charms and spells. Anyone can use these, as long as they can use their magics."
Rose looked confused. "What exactly did the charms in the arena do though?"
"They protect you from all kinds of magics that are used on you. So if I was to try to read your mind while you were wearing the charm, I wouldn't be able to."
"Wouldn't it be of more use to Team Young though?"
"Yes, but they had no real offensive magics, so they got the swords."
Sis grinned. "And a good thing too! You can cause some nice injuries with swords!"
Purple gave Sis a strange look. "Ok, which gory person decided to switch brains with you?"
"I've always been like this, you just haven't noticed."
Doc shook his head slightly. "Okay... Well anyway open your textbooks to page 37, and we'll start looking at some of the spells listed there."
Nebris glanced at the various spells listed and grimaced. He'd never be able to learn all of them. And to think that these were the basic spells! He didn't even want to look at the charms. Nebris sighed and stared at the clock. He frowned and leaned forwards. He could've sworn the second hand was ticking slower and slower. And it wasn't just his imagination either.
He glanced around the class. Everyone seemed to be totally engrossed in what Doc was saying. But wait, he could see a very faint blue glow coming from Tsu. He grinned and used his magics too. Oh Tsu...
Tsu looked around surprised before she realised that the voice was in her head. She sighed and looked straight at Nebris. Nebris smirked at her. If you're going to do anything to the clock, could you at least make it go faster? Tsu rolled her eyes and the blue glow vanished.
Doc hid a smile. "If you learn to use the detectus spell, you can sense all magics that are being used in the room. I personally use this one all the time, it's very handy for catching naughty students who aren't listening..."
Nebris looked up, confused. Doc wasn't talking about him, was he? Tsu just blushed bright pink. "Sorry..."
Doc put on a stern face and looked at the pair. There was a moment of silence before he laughed. The giggling class soon joined in. "Detectus is actually a spell, used for detecting magics. But it is banned in this class. For several reasons that we can discuss later. But it is always fun to drop the bomb on people sometimes."
Nebris stared at Doc, disbelief evident on his face. Tsu however took about two seconds to start laughing. Sharpie raised a hand. "Doc, do we really need to cast that spell all the time? Can't we just..."
"I was about to get onto that Sharpie. That spell is only useful when you can't see the person using their magics. If you can see them, you just have to look for the glow surrounding them. Nebris, stand in front of that mirror and use your magics."
Nebris got up and stood in front of the mirror. He reached behind him mentally and picked out Etho. I think you're hiding something. But you're not doing a very good job of it...
Etho stood up, red staining his cheeks. "Is that so Nebris?"
Nebris noticed the purple glow surrounding him, but he wasn't finished yet. Yes it is. You like me, a lot. Don't you?
Etho smirked. "You have telepathy, not emotions reading. You'll never know." And with that he shot a amused look at Nebris and sat back down again.
Nebris watched the purple glow fade before returning to his seat. Doc nodded at Beca and she stood in front of the class. "Well it was very nice reading your minds. There seems to be something going on between you two. Now, I'm not mean enough to say what it very obviously is... Well, I'll hint at it. You seem to have a nice rivalry going on there."
Etho sat, open-mouthed while Nebris shot a lot of colourful words at Beca. Doc muttered a spell:
Quiet one, quiet all,
Let there be silence within these walls,
Let not another word be spoken,
Until the spell is clearly broken.
Suddenly, Nebris' voice got cut off. He looked at Doc and then at the class. Everyone seemed to be just as confused as he was. He tried to talk, but no sound came out. He looked back at Doc who gestured to his seat. He sat down, sulking.
Doc sighed and muttered "Akhoft!" He faced the class again. "Spells can be very powerful. This is why we teach you how to use them. At the end of your time here, you will be tested. Each and every one of you. This test will be ruthless, and harder than anything you have ever faced before. You will be trained, but not knowing these spells and charms will be your downfall. Learn, and you will survive. If you don't..." Doc turned away, trying to forget those awful memories that plagued him every time he looked down at his scarred body. He looked over his shoulder at the waiting students.
"If you don't, you will regret it for the rest of your lives."
