The Great Disease Chapter 7
Sunday, April 27th, 2014 01:01 pmYeah. It's been exactly a month since I posted the last chapter of The Great Disease. Sorry 'bout that! This chapter is mainly backstory/lore behind the mysterious enemy, we find out about who lit that portal and stuff. So, sorry about the wait (And I can't guarantee this is the last time :P) and read on!
Dinnerbone advised the groups to sleep on the question, and then, politely, asked for a place to stay. Guude instantly gave him access to a house, bordering the centre. He went to the house, but did not sleep. There was something he wanted to check, beforehand.
The High Priest heard, more than saw, the dark figure creeping across the centre. The figure quietly stepped up to the frame of the portal, which had been broken into many pieces. The figure slowly started moving them around, forming the frame of the portal once more. The dark figure took out a flint and steel, and started striking them together. Dinnerbone teleported himself outside, as a dark figure detached itself from a wall and ran towards the one trying to light the portal.
Etho ran towards the figure, abandoning his invisibility as he ran. He saw Dinnerbone appear, but ignored him for the time being. The ninja drew his sword, and prepared to strike as he ran, but suddenly the figure turned and tackled him to the ground. The two wrestled for a moment, and then Etho noticed just who he was fighting. A chill crept over his body as he slammed the figure’s hands to the ground.
“Nebris? What do you think you’re doing!?” he yelled, in both anger and fear. Nebris met his stare with none of his usual defiance. Even his eyes seemed subdued. Etho looked deep into those violent eyes, with shock. They were glazed over, a look that Etho had only seen once before. Once, a traveller with magical prowess had come by the village when Etho was young, and had proceeded to hypnotise people for entertainment as a way of earning money and food. The look on their faces matched Nebris’ face.
Dinnerbone stepped forward to the struggling pair, almost as he saw what Etho had seen. The High Priest looked down on Nebris, and sighed.
“Who hypnotised him?” Etho asked, noticing the figure beside him. A small sigh was his only answer. Etho looked up at Dinnerbone, a querying look on his face.
“Well, Etho… I’m not sure, but if it’s who I think it is, we all have a lot to worry about…” he sighed, looking worried. Suddenly, the expression on Nebris’ face faded into an expression of confusion. Etho sighed in relief, as he saw Nebris’ eyes fading back to normal. He struggled to get out, once he realised he was trapped, but soon stopped upon seeing Etho.
“Where am I?” He asked, in his gravelly voice.
“Well… It’s a long story, and one best explained indoors, in comfort.” Etho stated, a feeling of unease coming over him as he got up, Nebris following suit. Dinnerbone followed along behind, prepared to help explain. Suddenly, out of the side of his eye, he saw a flash of movement. He whirled around, but saw nothing. He turned back; with the odd feeling he was being watched.
Nebris looked at the masked ninja in disbelief.
“I was hypnotised? Am I supposed to believe some mysterious creature hypnotised me? Because nobody we know has the ability to hypnotise!” Nebris asked. He was out of sorts, and angry that he had been hypnotised. Etho went to explain, again, but Dinnerbone coughed, loudly. Both Nebris and Etho looked at him, as he cleared his throat.
“Well, it’s not exactly a mysterious creature…” Dinnerbone stated. Both Nebris and Etho looked to him for an explanation, but he waved it off, telling the two that Guude would call a meeting the next day. Or, technically, that day, since it was past midnight. Dinnerbone farewelled the two, heading back to where he was staying. In the dark, an insubstantial figure formed, watching the disappearing form of Dinnerbone into the darkness. Wind blew, and it disappeared from sight, swirling off with the wind.
Everyone was gathered in the centre. They had all assembled beforehand, and then travelled to the centre, just in case they got attacked again. Thankfully, no creatures from other worlds had appeared. Dinnerbone stepped up, in front of everyone.
“Well, we have all gathered today, because I need to explain something to all of you. The history of this world.” Dinnerbone stated, his voice carrying to all corners of the square. Everyone was quiet. The history of the world of Minecraftia had always been secret. It had only been rumoured that the priests of Notch knew it.
“They say we came from a world beyond the stars. Our earliest records of those times only make passing reference to something called “The Moving”. Regardless of how we came here, it was obvious that the lands were rich, in both soils and minerals. For centuries, we thrived, rich and powerful. We created new technologies, and expanded across the lands, discovering how the land seemed almost endless. Rich, powerful and arrogant. Our researching took us into many different places. One seemingly ordinary day, it all changed.
One of the researchers opened up a portal to another dimension. We used it for travel, as distance there was much shorter than the Overworld, as we referred to the land which we had lived in. We named this other dimension the Nether. Years passed, and we assumed that this other dimension was safe. So we found another. The End, we called it. From it, a disease seeped. It invaded our lands, bring death and ruin. We became a fallen society, working desperately to cure this disease.
Finally, we determined that only by closing the portals that we could destroy this disease. A brave team fought their way to the portal, closing it. Unfortunately, the other portal, the one to the Nether, was still spreading the disease, but at a lesser degree. The team managed to shut that portal down as well, but at great cost. We always had believed we were safe after that occasion. But soon we found that there had been a guiding figure behind the disease.
One that heralded from the End. A being of great power. The brave team, who, incidentally included one of Etho’s ancestors, travelled to where it was creating a base, and destroyed it. Or so we thought. After that event, the world was in shambles. Ruins dotted the land, and death and misery abode there. Many years later, it is as we see it now. We do have a few artefacts from those times, however. One of them sits on Doc’s arm. We hold a few more in the Temple.
It appears that the one who controls the disease is back. He is spreading his disease once more. All the refugees are fleeing from his power. But there is one especially terrifying thing about him. You have all heard of Lord Notch, our god, and his helper, Jeb. Notch cannot face the one who controls the disease. Neither can Jeb. Ordinarily, a calamity of this sort would summon them forth, so they could save the world from destruction. But he cannot, because the one who controls the disease is the anti-thesis of Notch. His name is Bylakanor. He holds great power, being the opposite of Lord Notch.” Dinnerbone stopped, and took a deep breath. That had been a lot of talking. Vechs was the first to talk.
“Bylakanor? Sounds like someone mashed sounds together and made a name out of it!” Vechs stated, giggling slightly, despite the gravity of the situation. Vechs smiled, as Guude stepped up.
“So, thanks guy, but… Tell me there’s a way to kill this… Bilakeeno guy.” Guude asked, mispronouncing Bylakanor. Dinnerbone looked at him, a pained expression on his face.
“There is, but… Well…” He muttered, looking at Guude.
Cliffhanger! Bylakanor... It took me like a day to think of that name. Tell me what you think. Also, I know I could have used Herobrine, but too cliché.
