College Is Magic Chapter 10: Let Battle Commence!
Wednesday, April 9th, 2014 04:26 amI'm so tired after writing this now. Enjoy the first arena fight and hidden magics stuff! (I'm too tired to out anything else here)
Otherwise known as 'Purple how long is this damn chapter?'
Black swallowed nervously. As amazing having hidden magics were, she was scared of what they might be. It was a well known fact that hidden magics were unique. You couldn't be born with them as normal magics. And not only that, they are incredibly powerful.
Black was scared of having so much power at her fingertips. She had heard about Curly and how her magics are getting more powerful by the day. And also the rumours that she can't control them. The last thing she wanted was her magics to get out of control and destroy her, and everyone around her.
Luckily for Black, she wasn't the only one feeling that way. Everyone else with her were just as nervous about discovering their magics.
Doc pushed desks to the side of the room to create a wide area for the group to stand in. He then grabbed a book from a shelf and read a spell out of it. Suddenly, the room went pitch black. Everyone was surrounded by a different colour glow from their magics. He muttered another incantation and everyone floated a few inches from the floor. No-one said a word, they were all too awed to speak.
Doc raised a hand and the group was moved together to hover in a circle. "Alright, I need you all the hold hands. And no matter what you do, don't let go. Got it?" Everyone nodded and clasped hands with those either side of them.
"Now, don't freak out about what is going to happen. You have to remain calm." Doc pointed to Bdubs and muttered a single word. Suddenly Bdubs felt tingly all over, like he had pins and needles. His eyes widened as he heard the sharp intake of breath from the others.
"Guys, what is it?"
No-one moved a muscle. Bdubs looked down and gasped. He was suddenly standing on a huge treble clef. He tried to step off it but he was bound to it with magic. He feet simply wouldn't move.
Doc did the same to the others. He just pointed to them and muttered the word. One by one, they were all standing on different symbols. Bdubs had the treble clef, Black had a lightning bolt, Rose had an eagle's wing, Wild had a wolf's claw, and Drama had a owl's eye.
Doc looked at all the symbols, and said the word that would break the spell. "Ak-hoft!"
The room faded back to normal, and the group were lowered to the ground gently. Wild checked below her for the mysterious lion claw, but it was gone. Doc checked the book before shutting it with a loud snap and replacing it on the shelf.
"Ok, so that was interesting... First things first, are you all alright?" Nods all around from the group. "Good. Now then, your hidden magics. Bdubs, you have the siren's voice. It means that you can lure other to you by singing.
Black, you can summon lightening and use it at will. Make sure not to use it when in contact with water, you could get a nasty shock.
Rose, you have the ability to soar above the clouds like an eagle. Be careful not to go too high.
Wild, you have the strength of a wolf. Within time, you will have retractable wolf's claws as well.
And finally, Drama. You will have eyesight like a owl's. You'll be able to see for miles around.
It is of the utmost importance that you keep control of your magics and use them rarely. If you don't, you could destroy yourself and everyone around you. They aren't toys."
He smiled at the group. "Now go to your next class, you don't want to be late. Do you?"
----A few days later----
"Ladies and gentlemen! I welcome you to the very first battle at this fine arena! Today, two teams will face it off in a game of capture the flag. Whoever captures the other team's flag first, wins! The teams are.... Team Young and Team Mainstream! The battle will be starting shortly folks! Time to find your seats!"
----
The teams ready to fight. They had already talked tactics and were now were exchanging some banter in the prep rooms. Team Young were pretty stoked up and rearing to go. Team Mainstream on the other hand were nervous and not as excited as their rivals. It was Tom who started it.
"So, are you guys ready to be beaten?"
Rose giggled. "Are you ready to be washed away with our stream of attacks?"
Purple raised her eyebrows. "You'll be the washouts here!"
Wild smirked. "And is that right?"
Hawser rolled her eyes. "Would she have said so if she was wrong? Duh!"
Book joined in. "You seem to forget that we have two people with hidden magics."
Dark raised an eyebrow. "Are you trying to pick a fight before the battle has even started?"
Red laughed and stepped between the teams. "You youngins are so cute! Let's end this little spat before we damage you little cuties, ok?"
There was no time for anyone to respond because they were teleported to their starting positions. A loud voice boomed around the arena. "3... 2... 1... GO!"
Tsu ran ahead into some trees. "Sis! I can see some animals up ahead! And a chest of swords!"
Purple ran forwards and snatched up a sword. Sis followed her, and ran towards the nearest animal she could find. Thankfully, it was a bird. She quietly talked to it and it flew away. She turned back to the rest of the team who were gathering the swords. "Guys, we've got a lookout! He'll tell us what's going on with the other team!"
Tom nodded. "Perfect, thanks Sis. So, plan?"
Hawser frowned as she thought. "Tsu and Dark will team up and be scouts, and Purple and Tom are the strike force. Me and Sis will stay back and be support."
Dark raised a hand. "Where should we put the flag?"
Purple glanced around. "Just hide it in the trees somewhere. Let's go win this thing!"
The team cheered and split up.
----
Team Mainstream were having trouble deciding how to advance. Kappa and Jack wanted to storm the other team, Rose and Wild wanted to use their hidden magics, and Red and Book wanted to actually think of a plan. Eventually, Red had enough. "GUYS!"
Everyone stopped arguing and looked at her. "Ok, that's kinda creepy. Why don't we just do it like this: Rose and Wild hammer them with their crazy magics, Kappa and Jack will assist them. Me and Book will go take the flag. Everyone happy?"
There was some mumbling but everyone agreed. Book spotted a bag hanging from a branch. "Rose! Get that down! It could have goodies inside!"
Rose nodded and quickly flew up to the branch and back. Kappa opened the bag eagerly. "What are these?" She held one of the items up. "Necklaces?"
Jack's eyes widened. "They're not any old necklaces, they're magic charms."
Wild looked confused. "And they do what?"
"Who knows? But we'll find out soon enough."
Red nodded and ran her fingers over the intricate design on the pendant. "Let's move out then!"
----
Dark was invisible when she saw the other team. And a good thing too. She quickly ran back to Tsu. "They're here. What do we do?"
Tsu sighed. "Fight them! Come on!" She saw Rose in the sky and swiped at her with a large tree branch. Rose was hit and fell.
Dark was still stood behind Tsu, gaping. Tsu rolled her eyes and turned back to Dark as she picked up another branch. "Go and hit them with your sword!"
Dark nodded and went invisible. Tsu caught a glimpse of Tom and Purple running through the trees. She grinned and threw various twigs at Book, who was trying to approach her. Book just plowed though them and Tsu began to worry. She looked behind her for more ammo but came back empty handed.
Book grinned and rushed forwards, grabbing Tsu's throat, pushing her against a tree. "Sorry Tsu, but someone has to win. And I can't let it be you."
Tsu gasped for air and tried to call for help. Her voice was barely above a squeak. Book pushed harder and Tsu almost blacked out. Suddenly, something slammed into Book, releasing Tsu from her hold. Tsu slumped against the tree, exhausted.
There was a cry and a sickening crunch from next to her. She looked over to see Book on the floor, a deep cut in her right leg. There was a hand on her shoulder and Dark flickered into view. "D-Dark, you saved me..."
"What are friends for? Rest a little, I got this."
Tsu nodded and took shelter in the trees.
----
Red felt nothing but pure rage when she saw Rose fall. She had sent Book after Tsu, but she was injured as well. Now she wanted nothing else but to out Tsu out of the game, but she'd ran off into the trees. Wild nudged her. "I saw Purple and Tom slinking through the trees. I'll go and stop them. Ok?"
Red nodded. "I'll head towards their flag." She went invisible. "Let's go!"
While the two did their separate jobs, Kappa and Jack were trying to catch Dark. The temperature around Jack had dropped way below zero, and he get creating ice to try and slip her up. Kappa was also invisible so she could see Dark's outline and was trying to hit her with whatever she could pick up. It wasn't working though.
Wild found Purple first. She snuck up to her as she was chatting to Tom and slashed at her leg with her claws. Purple screamed and fell to the floor, clutching her leg. Tom turned with his sword already drawn, and cut Wild in the arm. Wild cried out and retreated a little.
Tom moved in front of Purple protectively. "You ain't getting to her. Unless you go through me."
Wild smirked. "Oh really?"
Purple groaned and tried to pick herself up. "Don't worry about me Tom, I'm fine..." She put weight on her bad leg and nearly blacked out. She fell to the floor again.
Tom shook his head. "I got this Purple, don't worry. Just gimmie a sec..." Tom used his magics on his sword and aimed at Wild.
Wild looked confused. "What are you doing?" Suddenly, Tom's sword ripped through her leg. She fell to the floor and cried in pure agony.
Tom shook his head grimly. "A leg for a leg." He turned to Purple. "Let's get you back on your feet. We can still win this!"
Tom wrapped an arm around Purple's shoulder and hauled her to her feet. Purple staggered along, but she couldn't help but try to read Wild's emotions. Strangely enough, it wouldn't work. She tried again. Still she couldn't reach Wild. She remembered something she read a long time ago in a magics book. "Tom, they have charms against our magics..."
"No matter, we just need to fix you up. Come on, the flag can wait."
----
Red approached the clearing where Hawser and Sis were waiting. Well, Hawser was waiting. Sis was gathering all the animals into a huge army. Red quietly crept across the edge of the tree line, and found the flag.
Suddenly, one of the wild dogs Sis had trained growled. Hawser jumped to her feet and drew her sword. "What is it Sis?"
"He senses an enemy close by. Be ready."
"Did ya even have to ask?"
Sis laughed. "Don't worry, I'm just teasing."
Red cursed the damn dogs sensing her. But she had to stifle a giggle at Sis' teasing. Before she knew what was happening, she flickered out of invisibility.
Hawser spotted her instantly. "Sis! Red is here!"
Red bolted for the tree. Hawser chased after her, sword at the ready. Sis muttered a command and her animal army joined Hawser. Red climbed the tree as quick as she could. Birds scratched at her face and dogs were biting at her heels, but she kept climbing. She felt Hawser started climbing as well and quicken her pace.
Hawser and the animals kept going, but they weren't quick enough. Red jumped forwards and grabbed the flag, almost falling out of the tree as she did so.
"I did it! We won!"

Does that make a little more sense now?

Date: Wednesday, April 9th, 2014 05:05 am (UTC)Firstly, we won. That's the most important part. Secondly, I was in one of the teams. Thirdly, my magic worked... Sorta. I got stopped, though.
I have some questions. If we had killed each other, would we have respawned? Because if Dark hadn't stopped me, Tsu would've died. For ever or just for two minutes? Is this fic intentionally becoming more Salad and less Mindcrack? I'm not complaining (being in fics makes me smile), but I'm just wondering.
That's all, for now. Keep writing, it's fantastic!

Date: Thursday, April 10th, 2014 01:01 am (UTC)More Salad = more people are in it = more people enjoy the chapter.
Less Mindcrack = Oops didn't really realise.
EDIT: And for your other question, see my reply to Tom's comment.
