Fic - Just a Love Story | Chapter 4
Friday, March 28th, 2014 06:40 pmIt's been a while! I want to get this out before I leave for Spring Break, although I don't anticipate leaving in the next few days or so. We'll see. Enjoy!
Mhykol said I needed toparactice practice my script. So I guess I’ll start by writining writing my thughts thoughts on this piece of paper. I make a lot of mistakes. Every time I make a mistake Mhykol makes me right write the proper word five times. I don’t like that.
I met this boy today. His name isZisaeu Zesteu Ziesteu Zisteau. I had to get Mhykol to spell his name for me. I’ll make sure to write it ten times instead of five. I don’t want to forget Zisteau’s name.
He’sinneresting interesting. He’s really thin though. A lot of people say I’m thin. Uncle Baj says I’m to too thin. But then he must be really thin. And that can’t be very good. Zisteau needs to eat more. Uncle Baj says I need to eat more but I don’t like eating very much. Zisteau looks like he might like eating though.

If I don’t writesoemthing something down quickly Mhykol’s going to get agnry angry. I met Zisteau again today. He looked tired. I asked him why. But he didn’t want to tell me. I wonder why. His little brother Vehs Vexs Vecs Vexxs Vechs didn’t look tired. Zisteau’s learning how to read. He spelled Vechs’ name for me. That’s good.
Zisteau knows how to spell his own name. He writes it a lot now. He also breaks a lot of quills. Mhykol isn't very happyabuut about that. He complains that we’re going to run out of quills. I don’t see why or how we could run out of quills. We have a lot of quills.
Mhykol is still working on his tome. He was grumbling about Zisteau and Vechs yesterday. He had to redo some pages. He let me have the pages he wasn't using though. I read them with Zisteau today. We havelerned learned that Queen Olivia is 30 years old (Zisteau knows that means now too), Prince Pakratt is 12 years old, Prince Nebris is 10 years old, and Prince MC is 8 years old. I don’t know why Mhykol is keeping a book on that.
(Zisteau wanted to besneeky sneaky and look at Mhykol’s tome. We also learned that the Engineer is called Doc and he is 28 years old. But that’s all we saw before Mhykol neerly nearly caught us. He didn’t though.)

A few months have passed. I’m seven now! I think my writing has gotten better. Smaller, at least. I can write more on a page now. Also, Zisteau was very happy. I think Vechs was too but he didn’t get it much. Vechs is reallysmart intelligent. (Mhykol said I have to start learning big words now. Intelligent is really hard to spell.) He caught onto reading a lot faster than Zisteau did. But he doesn’t like writing. He broke even more quills than Zisteau did!
Zisteau reads well know now. He wanted to read these notes that Mhykol has me write but I didn't let him. He was sad about that. So we went out to see my Uncle Baj. I think Zisteau was a bit scared of Uncle Baj. Uncle Baj can be a bit scary. But Uncle Baj is also nice. I think he liked Zisteau.

“Again!”
Sweat dripped off Kurt’s brow as his chest heaved, limbs trembling at the unfamiliar weight of the blunted wooden sword he held. He narrowed his eyes at Anderz, who positively loomed over him. Steeling himself, he ran forwards, bringing the sword to chest height for a thrust.
“Improving,” Anderz said, with a cheerful smile. He motioned for Kurt to stand down, which the young boy gladly did, collapsing to the ground in a sweaty mess. “Perhaps we’ll make a knight out of you yet, eh?”
Kurt looked up at the master swordsman in disbelief. “I think, in all due respect sir,” he huffed out shallowly, “I’ll stick with my books.”
Anderz chuckled, reaching down to haul Kurt up by the back collar of his shirt. “Good effort,” Anderz said, patting the young apprentice scribe on the back. “By the time I’m done with you, you’ll at least know your way around a sword.”
Kurt nodded wearily. His sore body protested at even the thought of more work. The only thing that bought him comfort now was the fact that Anderz now got to go at Zisteau.

Anderz raised an eyebrow at the pale and skinny kid Paul had presented to him as his son. Surely this child wasn’t the son of the esteemed Grand Master? But he was. Anderz frowned ever so slightly, worrying at his bottom lip. The child looked like he would break if he was pushed over, he was so thin. Perhaps some of his usual tactics wouldn’t work…
Zisteau glanced up at the bulky swordsman, introduced to him as Anderz by his Pa. Anderz was 25, he had learned beforehand. Since learning his numbers and what age meant, he was absolutely obsessed with knowing how old everyone was. For comparison. Anderz was younger than his Pa, but older than Mhykol, who was 24.
“Pick up that sword, and we’ll see what you know,” Anderz said suddenly, nodding at the discarded sword on the dirt floor. The handle gleamed dully in the midday sun, stained with the sweat and blood of the hands that had gripped it before. Zisteau picked it up… And nearly dropped it. It was much heavier than he thought it was.
He yelped as Anderz’s sword crashed into the earth next to him. He skittered backwards, dragging the sword with him in a burst of strength. His eyes widened as Anderz advanced, sword held at mid-chest, pointing towards him.
Zisteau gulped, struggling with the sword as his palms went damp with cold sweat. He did the only thing he could think of doing.
He screamed.
~*~
Anderz frowned in heightened concern as suddenly dropped and started screaming like he was being burned alive. He lowered his sword, stepping forward in concern. “It is okay,” he assured, waving his hands in what he hoped was a comforting manner. He wasn’t really fit for dealing with wailing children. “We can go slower if you – oof!”
Anderz doubled over, more in surprise than pain, as Zisteau lunged up with a ferocious glare on his face, thrusting out with the sword clumsily. Letting out another yell, Zisteau continued to swing and hack away rather fruitlessly at Anderz’s shin and hip. His spirit was admireable, and Anderz easily disarmed the young child with a quick, firm, block.
Zisteau fell back, panting, eyes narrowed in a glare. “You’re quick,” Anderz said, nodding in approval. “That’s good, faster than most, faster than Prince Pakratt, actually, when he first started.”
Zisteau blinked, his angry manner slowly letting up. “Oh.”
Anderz chuckled. “Don’t look so surprised, I kind of expected you to be a quick one. We’ll have to work on your strength, but you’re a bit ahead of Kurt.”
Zisteau’s lips formed another ‘Oh’, but no sound came out. He seemed pleased with himself, if only minimally so.
Anderz reached over to ruffle Zisteau’s hair. “Don’t worry, we’ll get you up to strength in no time.”

I think my handwriting has improved a lot. Mhykol isn’t getting onto me about it anymore, at least. So that’s all and well. My spelling has also improved – I only make mistakes rarely, now. A lot of things have changed, actually. Zisteau’s pretty good at sword fighting now. He’s really improved over the past year. His younger brother Vechs has taken an interest more in the arts, although he has his father’s skill with a bow.
I think another King is coming to visit soon. I’ve heard talk about it around the castle. Master Craftsman BdoubleO seems rather distressed about it. I try not to listen to other people’s conversation but Zisteau likes to do that. I think things are tense between BdoubleO and the other King. I haven’t heard his name yet, the King.
Hopefully things will go well.

C'moooon! :D So going to listen to that right now! \o/This series is so frikking adorable! :D I like how you showed Kurt's progress in writing skills. Clever!
Tip for he future though, children still learning to write and spell make mistakes often related to messing up phonetically similar things and struggling with more advanced words, not so much the swapping of letters which is more a typo-thing. (I.e. "prektis"/"praktis" or "kwik" (quick), "lurning". "Inneresting" was perfect, and in the last bits you did exactly that, but it was something I noticed and just in case you weren't aware. That bigger/smaller letter was a nice touch, very true. -giggles-
And Kurt seems like a quick learner, which imho fits very well!
