So...Remember HM? Ya, me neither. Anyway, here's part 5 in the Hacking Mindcrack series: Hacking Mindcrack Part 5- We're All Villians Here

No one responded at first. The room stayed still. And as time ticked on, all expressions drained from the attendees’ faces, leaving the room a ball of tense awkwardness.

Guude huffed, and rolled his eyes. “This isn’t a hard one. What. Are. Your. Naaaames.” He spoke slowly. Guude looked down at them, not just because they were younger than the Mindcrackers, but also because he felt that they were lesser for trying to hack his server.

Red couldn’t stand the disdain that was clear on his face, and she shifted stiffly in her seat. The motion caused all eyes to turn in her direction. Instead of shrinking up under their gaze like she thought she might, RedYellow actually straightened up and snuggled into her hood a bit.

Would you care to go first, Red?” Guude asked, clearly making a jab at the oversized red jacket she wore. It caused Hawser to burst into giggles, and even Sunset suppressed laughter. Red was certain Jack would have also been in pieces if he hadn’t been so fascinated with trying to get a good look at Etho.

She broke into a cocky grin. Guude had attempted to be condescending, but instead, he had managed to guess her name without even trying.

“I don’t see why I have to, seeing as you already know it.” At Guude’s confused look, Red sat up even taller, feeling new confidence born through a newfound control of the situation radiate through her. A moment ago, she was afraid of the Mindcrackers and where the meeting might have gone, but now she realized she had no reason to be. The Saladers held all the cards. They had information their captors did not, giving them an upper hand.

“Let me introduce myself properly.” Now it was her turn to take on a condescending tone. “Hey, guys, I’m RedYellow. Most people call me Red.”

The information caused Pak to burst in a loud spurt of laughter. Zisteau chucked quietly, and even Bdubs smiled, clearly amused. But Guude wasn’t, and he just glared at Red. She shifted uncomfortably. Her quick burst confidence was all but lost.

“And what about the rest of you?” Guude asked impatiently, his eyes roaming the table before settling on Jack.

“I’m Jack,” he introduced himself quietly. His eyes lowered, staring at the table.

“Sunset,” Sunset announced when Guude’s gaze found her. She was obviously trying to say as little as possible to hide her accent from Nebris, lest he call her out as the invisible Australian jaetwee.

“And what’s your name, young lady?” Guude’s tone was suddenly friendly as he addressed the youngest prisoner. He was no longer rude or condescending; he was kind, clearly not wanting to skew the young fan’s opinion of him.

Hawser just smiled widely, understanding what Guude was attempting to do. “Hawser. The name’s Hawser.”

“Hey, I know that name.” Etho spoke up. He seemed annoyed and very on edge, which didn’t seem out of place considering the circumstances. Panic flared up inside all the Saladers, excluding Hawser, at his recollection.

Does he recall her name from Salad? Or some fan art? Red wondered.

“‘Hawser’ was one of the names that were put into circulation in the Death Games,” he explained. The three of them let out long, relieved breaths, and Hawser just grinned wider.

“Back on topic, please,” Guude grumbled, his frustration peeking through. “Next question: which one of you is the leader?”

The Saladers exchanged unsure looks as the Mindcrackers studied them. Finally, Sunset spoke up. “Our leader isn’t present,” she lied as she tried to make eye contact with Guude. She ended up staring past his head, her pale, blue eyes landing on the door, which she noticed was slightly ajar.

Hawser followed her line of sight and saw what Sunset saw and grinned.

“That doesn’t make sense,” Seth observed. “Why would you go on such a risky mission without your leader to direct you if something went wrong?”

“The better question,” Sunset replied, “is ‘why would we bring our leader on a mission with such a high risk of failure?’ If we get caught so do they and the whole operation crumbles, not just this one mission.”

Nebris’ eyes lit up as he heard Sunset’s Australian accent clearly for the first time. Sunset is the Australian, jaetwee, who murdered me. I should warn the guys, she might be dangerous. He looked at Sunset, really looked at her, and he couldn’t believe the harmless looking girl could do such a thing so he chose to remain quiet for the time being.

Guude looked to Seth for an opinion on Sunset’s retort, but the man just shrugged, unsure. “Okay, I see your point,” Guude replied. “But I’m still not convinced that one of you three” - Hawser cleared her throat, refusing to be discounted as a potential instigator of the whole order - “you four, aren’t in charge of this ridiculous scheme.”

Bdubs leaned forward and spoke in hushed tones as if he were sharing some big secret. “It’s best if you just tell us. Then your leaders and ours can begin making negotiations to work this whole mess out.”

Once again, the Saladers gave each other looks the Mindcrackers couldn’t read. They silently agreed that Red should come forward and tell them that she was the one who had been leading the whole operation.

“Alright,” Red sat forward in her chair, leaning in slightly and resting her arms on the table. “Hacking the server was my idea.”

For a moment, nothing happened. No one moved or spoke. One could hardly even tell if anyone was breathing. And then everything dissolved into chaos.

“Ander - ” Guude began.

“I know, I know,” Anderz cut him off from where he stood next to the door, playing with the deadly sharp tip of his sword. He walked across the room and placed a hand on Red’s shoulder, making her tense visibly.

“Take her back to the cell, please,” Guude instructed.

“Come on,” Anderz prompted, trying to get Red to stand, but she was too panicked to respond. Her heart was beating a million beats a second, and she didn’t know what to do.

“Woah, woah, woah!” Pak jumped in, standing up at his chair. “You said there were going to be negotiations, that no one was going back into the cell!”

The comment was directed at Guude, who ignored Pak and pretended to be interested in flipping through the book he had previously been writing in, leaving Bdubs to respond for him.

“And so there will be.” His voice was soft and apologetic, as if he didn’t agree with what he was about to say but was unwilling to argue with the plan. “With these three. We have to make an example out of someone, and it’s best if it’s their leader.”

Pak shook his head, unaccepting of the decision.

“You can’t do this!” Somehow, Sunset managed to keep her cool. Her tone was firm and decisive, as if she was stating a fact.

“Technically, they can. You are their prisoners. There aren’t exactly rules to deal with this sort of thing, so anything goes,” Seth replied.

“Then let’s make some!” Pak was practically yelling. He wasn’t going to stand for this.

“Hey, why don’t we all just relax, ok?” Zisteau suggested.

“I agree with Zisteau, let’s all just relax and think rationally for a moment,” Sunset proposed.

Rationally?” Nebris butted in. “You be rational? I’d pay to see that!”

To the Mindcrackers, it seemed like Nebris had taken a jab at the Saladers for being stupid enough to hack the server. But they knew that he was referring to his previous encounter with Sunset, and the venom in his voice made her think twice before saying anything again.

“I think we all need to just sit back and discuss what we’re going to do.” Zisteau offered in an attempt to defuse the bomb that had been steadily building inside the room. Instead, he just made the timer count quicker.

“There’s nothing to discuss!” Guude announced. “I’ve made my decision and that girl is going back to her cell! Anderz!” he commanded.

Come on,” Anderz’s tone wasn’t harsh. It was more desperate, pleading with Red to go with him. Maybe he wasn’t completely on board with Guude’s plan.

Red searched the table for any help. Bdubs didn’t meet her stare. Sunset looked defeated. Seth met her gaze without emotion. Hawser looked devious, encouraging her to go with Anderz. Pak looked furious, but he didn’t seem to be angry at her. Zisteau looked apologetic. Etho’s eyes were hiding something that Red didn’t expect to see. They looked...vengeful. Nebris’ violet stare was fixed on Sunset, and Jack seemed to be trying to get Anderz’s attention.

Guude shuffled through his book.

Red took a deep breath and stood. “I hope you know what you’re getting yourself into, Guude,” she addressed her captor, who looked up from his papers, stunned.

“I could ask you the same thing, Red.”

Red met his eyes, giving him an icy stare that she wasn’t even sure if he could see from under her hood.

As Anderz and Red walked on their way to the door, they passed Jack, who spoke, not loudly but enough for the few closest to him to hear. Red tried to make sense of what he said but couldn’t. It seemed as if he was speaking Swedish. His words seemed to surprise Anderz, who hesitated, if only for a moment. But a moment was all Jack needed, and he stood suddenly and attempted to twist Anderz’s sword out of his grasp.

Hawser also stood. She shouted, “Red! Duck!”

Red did as she was told on autopilot and narrowly missed getting wacked in the head with the hilt of the sword.

In the next moment, Red saw many things happen. There were probably more things that she missed, but if the room hadn’t already been in chaos, everything fell apart in the next minute.

Jack and Anderz wrestled for the sword. For being so small compared to the Anderz, Jack did surprisingly well. Pak just stood and watched everything with a complete look of shock on his face. He hadn’t expected an attempt at escape from the prisoners. Seth also seemed very surprised at the sudden commotion, but didn’t hesitate to pull out his sword and point it at Hawser’s throat. She just grinned and widened her stance, ready to strike as soon as Seth gave her an opening.

Sunset hesitated, suddenly unsure of herself. She looked left to see Hawser and Seth fighting next to her, and then she looked right to see Bdubs, who was also just observing the chaos. They made brief eye contact, but neither made a motion to suggest they wanted to fight the other so her eyes continued to watch the room.

Guude wasn’t shocked that the prisoners were trying to escape. What else could he expect from the people who hacked his server?

He was, however, surprised to see how skilled they were as fighters. The younger one, Ha-something, was fighting Seth, and they seemed to be evenly matched. The boy - Jack, was it? - had managed to get Anderz’s sword, and now had the Viking against the wall, the sword even with his stomach. He seemed to be telling Anderz something, but Guude couldn’t make out what.

Nebris was unconcerned with the fighting happening around him. He was too focused on Sunset. She was the one who killed me. Why did she kill me?

Etho, even though he was freshly injured from his fight with Pause and Beef, had pulled out his sword. He seemed to be preparing to go and attack Red, even though the girl was doing nothing but standing around, seemingly confused and helpless.

Red felt the tip of a sword on her back and turned slowly to face him. “Uh…hi,” was all she managed to say to the menacing ninja standing before her.

“How many of you are there?” he growled at her.

What do you mean?” She tilted her head, pretending to be confused and pressing her luck. She knew she should be careful. She did have a sword pressed into her chest, but she couldn’t help but revel in the feeling of having more information than he did. Even though he held the sword, she felt in control the same way she did earlier.

“How many of there are you?” he reiterated.

“How many were part of the mission today? Or how many are in on the plan total?”

He seemed to not expect this reply. “Wait, there were more of you on the server today?” He pulled back, if only an inch.

Red was just about to reply when she noticed movement out of the corner of her eye.

“Red, let’s go!” Sunset called to her from the door.

“Well, looks like it’s time to go!” She slipped away from Etho carefully and ran past Anderz, Jack, and Guude to get to the door. “What about Hawser and Jack?” Red looked back into the room to see Hawser on the floor, with Seth hovering over her menacingly, blade in hand. Jack was being pulled off Anderz by Guude.

Sunset didn’t exactly answer. She just pulled Red’s arm and started dragging her into the hallway. “Reeeeeeddd, come on!”

Red hesitated a moment and saw Zisteau, still in his chair, smiling, seemingly very amused, before she slipped out of the room to follow Sunset.

“Which way do we go?”

“This way!” Sunset called over her shoulder taking a sharp left down the hallway, back towards their cell. “I think one of these doors was the armory. Ah! Here it is!” She stopped short and opened a door, grabbing a sword and bow for herself before stepping aside to let Red choose a weapon. Red selected an enchanted diamond sword that was shimmering blue and purple, and then they were on their way, running down the hallway once again.

They came to a staircase that led upwards to the surface and didn’t hesitate to start bounding up the stairs, two at a time. When they finally reached the top and came out through a little wooden door, they were surprised to find themselves in a little shack behind the town hall.

“Okay, so what now?” Red asked Sunset.

“You’re the one in charge here! You tell me.”

“Umm…I guess we go find Luvz and Aleks.”

“I’ll get Aleks. You find Luvz.”

“Alright.” Red started to turn and head in the direction of the Nether portal when Sunset called out to her.

“And Red!” Red turned back. “You be careful over there. Who knows what Vechs has done with her.”

Red nodded. “You too, who knows what kind of trouble Aleks has gotten herself into?”

Post-note: First thing on the post-note agenda is future parts. I can't promise when the next part will come, but I can promise that it includes some Saladers we have yet to have seen. The next thing is Character Profiles. You can still submit your character(check the links), but keep in mind if you do so that there is no guarantee your character will actually be in the story, though I will do my best. And if they are in the story they may have a minor part, but again, I will do my best to include everyone equally. Thank you to Aleks for being my beta. Now links.

Wow, this is amazing. What did Jack say to Anderz? I want to see if I can translate it (I just like testing my Swedish in times like this). Yay. HM is back! And I don't mind the wait, it was worth it. Looking forward to the next part! Make Sunset do Australia proud!

What did you want him to say, that just happened to come out in Swedish? You know, did he say "don't mess with me" in Swedish, or "I like bunny rabbits" or what?

Ok, so that would be

"Jag ska ta dinna [sword] och vi ska gå ut av här nu"

(I said go (or walk) out of here now, instead of escape. And I don't know what sword is in Swedish. Maybe Jack or Fae can help...)

Aaand more excitement! I love this. I was grinning like an idiot throughout the whole thing, since I was easily able to imagine the MindCrackers saying all their parts. Amazing.
And it's okay if I attempt to jump on the already-moving train that is Hacking MindCrack? Oh man *jumps aboard*
