Well, if we're all suddenly dissatisfied with PauseunBeef, suddenly Guude Beefyfist (lolwut) is an option? And again with this lack of legs thing. How is it that Beef always ends up getting teased so mercilessly? Firstly the falling to his death, then the Endermen, now this. Goodness!

YAY! Guude and Beef have had quite a few shippy moments. After Pause and Beef broke up with the arrival of Millbee, there was a whole thing where Beef and Guude "hooked up." Plus there is Kingdom of the Sky where they had some moments. I don't think Guude is a great match for Beef, but I do like them together as a casual sort of thing... (Perhaps Beef's attempt at being poly to make Pause happy. I don't think it works for Beef, but at least with Guude it's... comfortable?)

But oh my that's pretty heavy on the innuendo, ha! (I love how "innuendo" in this fandom is "I WOULD HAVE ANAL SEX WITH YOU")

Guude has a way of making everyone feel welcome, doesn't he. I also find it interesting that Guude and Beef are closest/at their best innuendo when Pause isn't around...

The second point is actually really interesting - I think one of the things that makes me like Mindcrack so much is that while the rest of the gaming world is filled with overt and terrible homophobia, these guys are comfortable enough to make innuendo and allow their fans to ship them.

I agree so much about their openness about innuendo and shippiness. It's not even in a teasing subtext way that some shows do these days, where they know it gets views but don't have the balls to actually "make canon." I feel like Pause/Millbee and Pause/Beef ARE basically canon, as well as Guude/BDoubleO. I mean, it's very lowkey because relationships are definitely not the point of MindCrack, but we have entire episodes like this caving series where Pause and Millbee discuss their relationship even using sexual terms and things like "This is why we broke up the first time" etc. Obviously they're joking, but if we view Pause as a character vs. as Alex, I totally believe he's involved with Millbee in a more-than-platonic way. so, I dunno. ITS WEIRD AND AWESOME and I'm honestly surprised that because of the openness they don't have more shipper fans. When even Guude is like DUDE THIS FAN ART OF ME AND BDUBS CUDDLING AT MINECON IS AWESOME you know it's a pretty fucking awesome fandom...

Maybe I should be more overt about advertising this place. But I'm kind of scared to as well! I feel like we fans are constantly dancing around a very fuzzy line when it comes to what's acceptable in terms of Mindcracker shipping on the subreddit. I also come from an RPF fandom where "don't tell the people you're shipping them!" was enforced as Rule #1 and that's a hard habit to break, you know?

What do you think?

I wouldn't be in favor of anything very overt. Maybe it's just that much of what I've written or tried to write so far focuses on people who don't engage so much in the overt "mild homoeroticism" as I think Millbee put it -- people like Etho and Zisteau and Nebris and Doc. The last thing I'd want to do is freak any of them out to the point they become self-conscious about it, or worse, change their behavior. I'd really rather they just not know. This is harmless and all in good fun in my eyes, but I can't be sure it would be in theirs. This is a fair few steps up from most of the jokes on the reddit or the constant low background of "all the homo" comments on Youtube.

Well Nebris at least "kissed Etho" on MC's livestream, though it did make Etho very uncomfortable. :P

Yeah, my first instinct is to keep this place small and secret. If/when I ever, ever finish "To Hear the Words" I may post it there though, just because it would take me so much effort to write and OOG is so "canon" that I feel it's more acceptable - I feel it's only a step or two up from Gomeric's bonus page of "Anyone But Him", which Guude expressly defended against homophobes.

Still, the fact that the line is so fuzzy - and the fact that there are members of the server who embrace the fuzziness - makes me so very, very happy.

I completely agree with that. It's really refreshing and to me at least a bit unexpected. Even with as accepting of different-ness as nerd-dom often is, you stick 23 guys together and I at least tend to expect the defense of true-blue heterosexuality to ramp up and not down.

Tangent -- did you ever see the livestream of Doc's where he said he liked Etho "too much" to prank him? :D

I missed it because I always miss livestreams. :( The reason I can watch or at least listen to so many videos is because I'm allowed to watch at work - but twitch doesn't function there, so unless people dual stream to Youtube I can't watch streams.

Do you have a link, or at least a date and a rough time? Uuuugh I hate the twitch.tv archives so much, but I guess I might as well go digging.

I never really got the whole Doc/Etho thing before hearing that. Doc had even said in an earlier livestream that he wasn't completely BFF with Etho like everyone thinks, that he's closer with BdoubleO. (The reasons he gave for why that's so made it into the fic I wrote.) But then this, and ohhhh. That's not even subtle, is it?

I'm intrigued when a person has different rules of engagement for one friend than they do for all the rest.

One of Doc's "thanks for n subscribers, for n sufficiently large" (you really know how to describe things, don't you, moderator) videos thanks Etho profusely for helping promote the World Tour. They've borrowed ideas from each other many many times in the past for their respective single player LPs, and I believe Doc was one of the first "featured channels" on Etho's sidebar, which was responsible for Doc's first subscriber wave.

I'm with you on the RPF thing. I've been in RPF fandoms with that mentality as well (which I generally think is a good mentality) and this is even a different line because you can, fairly easily, have a conversation with Guude or Pause or someone on the Reddit. This isn't like me having a little flail about Zachary Quinto where the closest I might get is a Tweet or an autograph at an event. It's extremely likely that one or more of them will see the works posted here and be aware of it.

However, to that end, they largely do seem okay with it, and I feel like if they know what this community entails and they poke around a bunch on it, they have only themselves to blame. I mean, don't click on "Beef/Pause NC17" fanart or fic if you don't want to see that... So perhaps more promotion with a lot of caveats like "This is done out of love, no disrespect intended" and "this is all fictional."

Maybe we could even do a "If you are uncomfortable with having your persona used like this, please let us know and we won't writea bout you" or something? I mean, it'd really suck if Nebris or someone "opted out" because obviously someone is gonna want to write fic about everyone, but I guess it might be the polite thing to do... I DON'T KNOW BAWWWw.

Yeah, this fandom is definitely strange because the "celebrities" are so close. I guess the closest you get is some parts of bandom or some such, but I know very little about that.

Oh wait! Yuletide has a tradition of usually humorous RPF of the regulars of the #yuletide IRC chat, and there's an opt-out form for that. But all those people are fanfic writers pretty much by definition, so "fic culture" is well understood by them and the Yuletide RPF that does usually come out is generally silly meta stuff, not, you know, sexytimes.

I feel like Etho would opt out and then we will all cry if that happens. ;____;

True. There's the problem with offering an opt-out option in knowing that one of them might take it. Ahaha. I feel like a small amount of non-specific self-promotion is okay, but I definitely wouldn't go linking to NC17 fic/art, especially not to the less embracing of it MindCrackers. Guude or Pause would probably enjoy it. Etho or Pakratt or something might not. Saying "This community is here, enter at your own risk" seems fine though... and deal with one of them saying "I'm not okay with this" if it ever happens...

I had a thought at one point about the possibility of mindcrack_love advertising to specific people on the reddit instead of "broadcast". Some people are very openly into enjoying that aspect. Some may already be here, but probably not all. And it avoids the problem of of putting it really right in their faces.

I'm not sure about mass PMing, but I thiiiink you can just put a name, comma, name, comma, name. Otherwise just C&P it over a couple times. Possibly for the better anyway in the event that they might be able to see all the other names included in a mass PM...
