After Years of work, Etho has turned it on for testing. It is a huge project and if it works correctly it will change the world of Minecraft forever. As he starts it with a simple click of the wooden button that will send two ticks of energy into the machine, resetting its “Mind”. What is this Machine, you may ask. I’d tell you, but there is no straight forward answer. Everyone but Etho just refers to it as "The Machine". But Etho has a special name for it, for it is his child, he calls it “Wilson”. More specifically “Wilson 8” for it is the 8th Wilson made, the others were just tests and simulations. But they were all made to come to this one, to be patched together, the one that would make it possible to feel emotions and have random thoughts based off surroundings and events. It is nearly alive. But one thing it can’t do for it is just simply impossible, is move. Instead of moving, it gains knowledge. It simply learns. And as of now, it has begun. He has started it. Etho cannot conceive the implications of his creation, in fact no one does. It is nearly impossible to predict what it will think of next and what its reaction may be.

Etho steps away from the panel of buttons that control The Machines different attributes. As the Redstone goes throughout The Machine starting it, beginning the hum of the pistons, hoppers, repeaters, and comparators. Etho just sits there, waiting for the signal of it being, well, alive. The Machine has almost no knowledge in the beginning, it only knows to recognize Etho as its Master and to respond to his commands. The more things Etho says to The Machine and shows it a proper response, it learns. Its mind then expands.

The single Redstone lamp triggers to show it is on, everything is functioning, it is ready.
Ethos smooth gentle voice welcomes The Machine “Hello there Wilson.”

The Redstone buzzes with computing everything, it takes 5 seconds to respond. The hundreds of jukeboxes below fire together at different tones to create a “voice” of sorts.

In a rough and ragged computer bursts of sounds you can make out a slight “Hello Master”

Etho responds stern but lovingly “Please, call me Etho”
This is a lot for The Machine, this is part of the test he added the please to add a word to its vocabulary, it then computes it making it into a word that is to show it would like for it to be done, but it is a gentle word. The Machine also has learned Etho as a name, this was to check memory swapping.

Memory swapping is a little thing Etho added to The Machine to make it so if he said something to it and then had a replacement for that word, it would completely forget that previous thing and replace it with what it was just told. So in this case, The Machine was tought to recognize its creator as master, but it was then told to forget that memory and swap it for the name Etho. It will never remember him as its “Master” again.

After a solid 20 seconds of computing it speaks once more “Hello Etho, how may I help you.”

“Tell me, what is this?” Etho puts down a Iron ore block on the ground in front of its single light.

This is step the next part, recognizing block, if it can do this which was tested on Wilson 5. It will be able to tell Etho where the block is within so many blocks, currently it can go up to 1 chunk away, this doesn't even compare to what Wilson 5 was finally assessed at when it was working.. The distance in which it can distinctly say where something is depends on its IQ. The smarter The Machine is, the stronger it is.

5 seconds later it is not recognized in its list of block vocabulary which currently only has Stone, Grass, and Dirt, the most basic blocks in Minecraft. “I do not know this block. What is this?” With every word it says, it speaks more clearly.

“This is 1 block of Iron ore.” Etho patiently responds. He has to explain things very precisely for it to learn.

“Thank you for learning to me.” The Machine responds.

Etho know its vocabulary is still in its early stages, it was like this with Wilson 3, that is where Etho tested the concept of speech and learning a language. “I am teaching you, I have just taught you, I am your teacher.” This adds 3 more things to The Machines vocabulary, he is taking advantage of teaching it nouns, verbs, and adjectives, and the concept of future, present, and past tense.

“I am being taught, I am learning.” It uses its recently learned words to confirm to Etho its is learning. “I like learning.” The pistons to the right wall fire revealing the face, the smiling face. The face of the Wilson that showed emotion, Wilson 1.

I hope you guys enjoyed the pilot of this new series I plan on making, entitled “The Machine”. Please tell me what you think, there may be a few grammatical errors I do apologize that my English is not the best. This is my first fan fiction I have ever written, in fact it is the first story I have ever really made. Also huge thank you to my beta RedYellowGirl you are the best. - Jarko :3

Color me impressed! For a first foray into fanfiction, you've gotten something worth watching here (and having a capable beta reader certainly added to its re-readability factor.)

You've earned yourself another fan. I look forward to where you take this tale of man and ghost in the machine next.

Wish you the best!
