So, I wrote this kinda off the cuff. I was inspired by the fact that our Team Munchkin telephone story has had trouble ship-wise because three people all want to be paired with Beef. (Namely, Nan, Aleks, and myself.) I have been wanting something to write, and then this popped up, so I decided to run with it. I think it's pretty good, at least for the hour or so I spent on it. Mostly I just wanted to mess around with the whole something-important-is-happening-in-the-story-but-I-won't-say-what-it-is-directly thing. That was kind of neat. Anyway, please enjoy this Team Munchkin ficlet! :D
Curly stood alone on the second floor balcony of her home and veterinarian's office, watching the rain. She always came here when she was upset. The cool wind blowing through her hair and the soft layers of sound from Spawn Village below helped calm her.
Curly wasn't usually one to get angry. In fact, she was surprised the events that had taken place earlier that day had affected her to the extent that they did. She supposed she felt more on the subject than she had ever realized. Of course, thinking about said subject now did not help her mood.
Sighing, Curly walked back into her home and office, sliding closed the balcony door behind her. She went about her daily chores, feeding her three wolves and two cats, checking up on Joseph in her tiny personal stable downstairs, and eventually found herself organizing chests. Curly guessed she must be quite unraveled to be pushed to the point of organizing chests. Sighing again, she walked back to the sitting room and sat down on the floor to let her beloved animals ambush her. She lied on her back and slowly stroked the puppy that had decided to curl up on her stomach to fall asleep.
Nan was fuming. Cutting through vines and leaves with her diamond sword, she moved through the jungle at a breakneck pace. She huffed loudly with each swing, and glanced up at the sky every now and then. It would be dark soon. Good, Nan thought. More stuff to kill.
Nan tried to push the thoughts out of her mind. She knew it shouldn't have meant so much to her, but it affected her more than she would have liked to admit. Hacking through more vines, she continued her trek through the jungle.
Sure, now the secret was out. Well, technically, three secrets were out. She huffed again as she sliced through a particularly tough vine and moved past it. In the back of her mind, the question remained. What happens now?
Aleks hummed distractedly as she planted sapling after sapling. After finishing one row, she would turn and walk back with a stack of bonemeal. Growing each tree in turn, she would then return to the beginning of the row again and start cutting down each tree. She did this several times. Eventually she had to stop, as her arms were tiring. Sitting down on a stump, she tried to catch her breath.
The images of today's drama started to come back as soon as she sat down. She knew thinking about it would drive her to madness, so she stood up and continued to grow and chop trees. Still, in the back of her mind, the anxiety lingered. She tried not to think about it; it wouldn't do any good.
Plant, grow, chop. Plant, grow, chop.
She repeated this until she could hardly stand. Knowing the next stage of emotional turmoil for her, she put away her tools and walked slowly up the stairs to her room. Flopping down on the soft mattress, she fell asleep immediately, without even taking off her shoes.
Beef stood silently in the center of spawn, still trying to process the information. Pause sat beside him, polishing his sword.
"You know, I think you're really making too big of a deal out of this." Pause said.
Beef started to pace the ground. "A big deal? It is a big deal! What am I supposed to... How do I..." He sighed loudly.
"Dude, you're acting like they killed Pony Danza or something. Is it really that bad?"
Beef kept pacing silently.
"I mean, if you think about it, you're lucky. How many of us find out that we've got three..."
"Will you quit? I am not lucky. I mean, I never knew that all three of them..."
"Dude, just go talk to the other munchkins. They can help you out."
"They'll probably be mad at me."
Pause sighed. "I don't know why you don't just tell them that you don't feel the same way."
Beef stopped pacing and sat down. "That's the problem." He muttered.
"What's the problem?"
"I don't feel the same way... except..."
Pause rolled his eyes. "Except for..."
"But how am I supposed to choose her over the other two? I'd break up Team Munchkin. Their friendship would be ruined."
"I don't know." Pause replied. "I've heard they're pretty close."
Beef sighed again. "I've got to tell her. It can't wait any longer."
"Yeah!" Pause said, cheering him on. "Go tell her!"
"I'm gonna go find her, and I'm gonna tell her. Yep. That's what I'm gonna do."
"Alright! You got this!"
"Okay. I'm ready." Beef said, standing up, and started to walk off. "Wait..." he turned and faced Pause again. "Where does she live?"
Pause shrugged. "Heck if I know. You'd better ask Squid or something."
"Okay." Beef said, and started off in the direction of the nether portal.
"Good luck man! You got this!"
