“And prance prance twirl, prance prance twirl,” Van said as Rapidash pranced back and forth in uneasy circles. Rapidash continued to try and prance around in tiny circles, occasionally tripping over its own hooves. Every time Rapidash fumbled Van would patiently correct it, gently tapping its flanks until it managed to go into the tight little circles Van was trying to teach it how to do. They continued to practice for some time, not noticing the two creeping forms sneaking up behind them, watching.
“So, are you starting a pokemon beauty pageant?” Beef finally said as he watched the show. Teras remained silent, eating some popcorn. Van blinked before turning to look at Beef and Teras.
“More like a dance thing, but yes! I was going to teach all my pokemon cute dances, then show you guys, but you ruined the surprise!” Van said, frowning at the two of them.
Beef blushed slightly before looking up at the sky. “Oh. I uh. Okay?” he said, earning a smirk and giggle from Teras. Beef started to say something to Teras before Teras rubbed his hands on his pants, getting rid of popcorn crumbs.
“Me and Beef were about to go do some caving, look for fossils, that kind of thing. We saw you were awake, want to come also?” Teras said, ignoring Beef.
Van tilted his head slightly, pondering the two of them. “Well, Rapidash seems to be doing well, I guess we can take a break. And caving does sound like fun!” Van said. Rapidash whinnied softly, nodding its head in agreement. “It seems like Rapidash agrees, so shall we go?” Van said, petting Rapidash. Teras and Beef nodded, the three of them walking towards the deep woods.
“So, where's the cave, or are we looking for one?” Van said, as they continued to trek further and further away from spawn.
Teras nodded slightly, waving a hand towards the distance. “It's fairly far away, but me and Beef looked inside, it seems quite the large cave system,” he said, earning a soft agreement from Beef. The three of them continued walking, Rapidash prancing alongside Van.
After what seemed like far longer then Van would care to think about, they found themselves in front of a massive hole in the ground.
“Uh...wow?” Van said as he carefully looked down. It did seem like this cave went on forever. Teras and Beef grinned before taking out their torches, starting to slowly climb down into the cave. Van watched them before jumping in after them, placing torches all over the place.
“One day, one of those torches is going to flare up and burn the entire world down,” Beef said, slightly exasperated. Van shrugged, continuing to torch the cave.
“Well, don't come crying to me when you're lost in the dark, unable to find your way home then!” Van said, poking Beef in the shoulder with an unlit torch. Beef rolled his eyes before laughing softly.
“Stop bickering you two, and look what I found!” Teras said from much further down in the caves.
“Oooo,” both Beef and Van said as they saw Teras had found not only a diamond deposit, but two fossils right next to it. “Nice!” Van said as Beef whistled appreciatively.
“Okay then...who gets the fossils?” Teras said as he quickly mined them out, holding one in each hand.
“I don't need them, I already have two. Why don't you each take one?” Beef said reasonably.
“I already have a few myself. I say...let's give them both as a gift to Van,” Teras said before pushing both fossils into Van's hands, nodding solemnly.
Van sputtered as he stared at the fossils. “O...okay? Thank you? How do I use them?” he said as he tried to gnaw on them. Beef and Teras laughed and shook their heads, causing Van to laugh and stop chewing on the fossils.
“You can use my fossil machines later,” Beef said with a smile. Teras leaned over to Beef, smirk faintly seen in the dark as he whispered something to Beef so quiet Van couldn't hear. Beef listened intently before making a strangled noise, pushing Teras away. “Knock it off Teras. You're being weird again,” he said, earning an amused shrug from Teras and a confused look from Van.
“Wha...?” Van said before Beef shook his head.
“Don't ask. Teras is in a weird mood today,” Beef said, earning another shrug from Teras.
“Well. As much as I'd like to explore the rest of the cave system, I have to leave. Be well!” Teras said suddenly before pulling out a small watch, turning the dials as he disappeared.
“That guy...” Beef said exasperated.
Van grinned before sliding in next to Beef, whispering in his ear. “So what did he say that has you all flustered?” Van said, amused. Beef turned towards him and frowned.
“He said nothing of importance because he's a jerk. Do you want to keep exploring the cave, or go home?” Beef said. Van studied his face in the flicker of the torches. Beef was blushing very brightly. Van pulled away, pondering the question. He noticed Beef relaxed slightly.
“I think we should explore the rest of the cave, but maybe at a later time. I have a tent, we can sleep out here. Rapidash can keep and eye out for...things. I'm not sure what things, but scary evil ones,” Van said as he pulled the folding tent out of his pack, setting it up quickly. “It'll be a tight fit for two people, but it'll work,” Van said, hearing Beef muffle an exclamation. Van ducked his head and grinned, sure he knew what Teras had said now. Teras had been dropping not so subtle hints to him that him and Beef should do more things together. Apparently this was a ploy by Teras to get the two of them alone. Well, as alone as they could be, since he was now quite sure Teras was lurking about, invisibly, watching.
“I can just sleep out here,” Beef said half heartedly. Van shook his head, opening the flap in the tent.
“Oh no, we can both fit!” Van said as he crawled inside, keeping the flap open for Beef. Beef exhaled slowly before climbing inside the tent. Van snuggled next to Beef, grinning slightly. “Cozy!” Van said, humming softly. Beef laughed, giving Van a hug before stretching out as much as he could.
“Well then. Let's get some sleep,” Beef said as he yawned, closing his eyes. Van shrugged, curling up next to Beef, warm and happy.
