So, in the recent B-Team casino episode, GenerikB and Bdubs decide to keep Beef's castle chapel so they can conduct weddings. GenerikB suggests marrying Beef/Pause and Doc/Anderz, which amused the heck out of me:

Generik: "For the quickie-wed, you know, for the love birds, like Pause and Beef can go get married here."
BdoubleO: "Yeah, yeah! I like it."
Generik: "I mean, Shree can wear a dress."
Bdubs: "Mm. Of course."
Generik: Doc and AnderZEL can have a little wedding."

They also talk about spending the night together (IRL) at GenerikB's house before they head to Minecon, which... INTERESTING. They talk about doing things together that they could only do physically together...



Also, in today's podcast, there's a lot of discussion about gay LPers, which I thought was of interest to the community since we've discussed that recently. Sadly, it's a more serious topic that sort of gets joked-over. There are a few times I thought someone was going to say something good and then someone made a joke/interrupted and it was lost. Still thought it was worth mentioning here in case people wanted to have any sort of discussion about it.

I love that they think weddings would be in high enough demand that they needed to keep it they way it is. :P

As for the podcast and gay LPers, I think JustVan on the reddit said everything better than I could ever say it. I tend to agree that the issue is a bit more complicated than the guys in the podcast made it out. I also love the bit in Guude's response to that thread that he does recognize that there are things that "gaymers" have to consider that straight people would never have to worry about. Just the fact that some of the people I enjoy watching have at least thought about these issues enough to realize something like that makes me happy.

Oh my goodness. All the points to Van, his answer is amazing and just... wow. Cheers for someone addressing it seriously on the reddit!

But seeing Baj's answer did make me feel a little uneasy. =/

Yeah, where it's pretty apparent that someone like Guude has put a fair amount of thought into these kinds of issues, I really get the feeling that Baj hasn't, or if he has, still doesn't care enough to be very compassionate about it. :\ Not that "compassionate" is a word I would use to describe him either way, but something like this I consider to be on par with basic human rights. It shouldn't even be a question why someone should care.

Yeah, my respect for Guude went way up and my respect for Baj went... well, down. He goes on and on about not being as popular as the other three and I'm just like... you're not as good, dude, AND you're kind of an ass. I know that's his gimmick, but it gets old. I have even less sympathy for him now.

Chalk me up as another one who seconds everything JustVan said. It shouldn't matter, but it does, and acknowledging that is important.

Re: the gay LPer question - I can't talk about this as much as the question of female LPers, not being personally affected by it, but I agree that it was a serious question that should have gotten more serious answers. Overall, I feel that while yes, it would be great if gay LPers could just merrily block the few assholes who make a big deal about their sexuality, the situation just may not be so simple. The gaming community is still deeply homophobic (in general! not every single part of it!) and being openly gay could be a hindrance for any up-and-coming Youtuber. But really, what got me were statements like the one Avidya made when he said, "You don't have to talk about it all the time - I mean I like pistachios, but I don't have to mention it!" (paraphrased) Yeah, maybe a gay LPer doesn't need to start every video with, "Hey and welcome back, I'm X and I am gay!" But unlike mentioning your snack preferences from time to time, even occasionally referencing your gayness could result in a lot of backlash.
So yeah, serious issue is serious, and I wish they hadn't written it off as no big deal.

But good on Guude for pointing out that it's nothing to be ashamed of! =)

I haven't listened to the podcast yet, but hey, female pansexual hopeful-LPer and apparenly horribly shameless chimin' in, because why the fuck not.

I mention my partner/the-person-I-will-marry (fiance[e] is far more gender-neutral spoken instead of written, sadly) in that episode as part of an introduction to my life, and use singular "they" as a pronoun to describe them. You might notice that I've actually been doing this quite consistently the whole time I've been chatting with you guys (and I've used "my partner" and "they" in my chat on the server as well, so it's no secret to the Mhykol Mines FS regulars.) The big reason I do this is because it doesn't goddamn matter what gender my partner happens to be, and I will happily keep people guessing for as long as I can. My partner is a badass and a scientist and a gamer and an otaku, and that's the shit that matters, not identity (or what's between their legs, which may or may not have anything to do with identity, but that's a whole other can of worms.)

Maybe folks won't subscribe to me because they're put off by it. Maybe folks will listen in and ask questions as to why I'm being so evasive about gender. Maybe I'll get hate mail. Maybe I'll get to record an enlightening Q&A session on gender identity and what it means and why I always say "pansexual" instead of "bisexual" and why I avoid pronouns when possible.

...Or maybe no one will notice and I'll just talk about math and patterns and my excessive hoarding habit in Minecraft.

Who knows? Let's find out.

It'd be interesting to know if Sixelona or RainbowCrisp have experienced any backlash from being fairly openly out. Like JustVan said, I think that gay/queer women may have it easier in the gamer community since men are more accepting of lesbians (since they can fantasize about them, sigh), but I still think it'd be an interesting thing to note, especially as they're both members of this community (if I'm not mistaken)...

Sometimes in game in a server (public) we did. And for a good while people had been very surprised to hear we were, in fact, a couple. Some people were rude about it, but with rude people came supporters who would stand up for us.

We are not afraid to speak about our status and people don't seem to mind or seem surprised. In fact, now it's a thing and there's been some fan art of us. The support is really wonderful, and I only wish such support could be equal for men and women.
