I had a really stressfull day today, so I was not really in the mood to write something, to be honest. Then...UHC happened. -I was not prepared for that XD' (Only saw Paks video so far, don't have time for more today, but that was a distraction. Definately.)

Also, here's a thing I maybe should have mentioned before: even though I do this in the form of a Advends Calendar, none of the stories are in any way related to christmas, other then the fact that it is my christmas goft to all of you, in a way Xb

Oh, and if you read my question from yesterday: I have decided to write the variation of the story, at a later point. It doesn't feel right not to do it =)

Summary: Zisteau is hauntd by a memory
Genre: Friendship, Dark.

Day 16 - Zisteau

Zisteau had a good memory, overall. Maybe he couldn't recite a poem he had heard once a long time ago, but he had a tendency to remember details. A skill that had been useful more than once in the prank wars. Recently however, a very particular memory came to his mind, often and unbidden. He remembered the day vividly, and would likely continue to do so for a long time yet.

Zisteau had pushed his back against the wall, had been gripping his sword tighter. He remembered looking over to his friend, who had been doing the same on the other side of the cave opening. Raising his voice just enough that he could be heard, he had asked “How many can you see?”
Pakratt had leaned over just a little, glancing around the corner.
Zisteau distinctly remembered how the long, black hair had fallen over Paks eyes and had blocked his view and how he had still noticed the frown on the others face.
When Pak turned back to him and mouthed a silent “A ton” he had briefly closed his eyes in frustration and then gestured back the path they had originally climbed down. Pakratt had nodded and waved him on, signaling that he would cover their back. The Pigman did not hesitate and had made his way back, as silent as possible, his friend close behind.
He vividly remembered their discussion that they had, once they had reached the opening they had set camp in.
“So, what do you think?”
Pak had been shaking his head. “I don’t know, man. We came here to fight Zombies and find treasure, but that place is evil. There’s at least 30 of them, if not more. And who knows how many there will be when we get back down.”
Zisteau had grimaced, mentioning that even though they both were no cowards, there still were battles you should simply not pick and that this sounded like it was one of them. But he had also refused to give up. They had come too far, had traveled too deep into the caves to leave empty handed.
He must have had looked at the furnace they had left behind after cooking their last food rations a little to long. Or more specifically, at what they had used as their source of heat. Pakratt had stepped closer and had crossed his arms.
“Nope. We already discussed this. If you pour lava into the dungeon, you will set the mineshaft on fire. That’s the last thing we need now.” He had stated it calmly, but with such tiredness in his voice. Zisteau had been frustraded by that.
“I am not giving up now, Pak! I am willing to take that risk if it means we will get the enchanted golden apple from that chest!”
The black haired man had then sighed, putting his face in his hands.
“Look. I want to leave this stupid cave just as much as you do, but it won’t do us any good if we kill the zombies and trap ourselves in the fire in the process.”
“Then let’s not do that.” Zisteau had carefully picked up the bucket of lava. “I know how to handle this better than anyone else. We’ll make a little hole in the ceiling and pour the lava down that way. And we will also make a canal for it at the exit, so it will flow away from the mineshaft.”
Pakratt had raised his eyebrows at that. Zisteau was certain that his suggestion had surprised the other, for the black haired man then had looked back to the path for a while. His answer had sounded a lot more confident and energetic, a lot more like the Pak he usually saw.
“That’s a dangerous plan. But it might work. You handle the lava, I’ll try to make that canal. How big does it need to be?” And Zisteau smirked. This time, it had been his plan that would save them.
And it had worked wonderfully, the Lava killed all that was in it’s path and Zisteau remembered grinning with glee, as he looked at the burning zombies and the treasure now only moments away.
Neither of them had considered that there may be some of the dry mineshaftwood under the gravely floor. More then anything else, Zisteau remembered the terrified look on Pakratts face when the ground beneath his feet suddenly gave way, dropping him into the lava canal.
