Changing the Atmosphere (Chaprter Three)
Sunday, December 8th, 2013 12:36 am"Dude, I hate Enderman so much. Like, get outta here Enderman." VintageBeef
"This is getting ridiculous." Generik said, looking down the table at everyone. They all shrugged and nodded. "We all know why we're here right?"
"Of course. It was on the invitation!" Seth grinned, pulling out a copy. Baj rounded on Pause.
"You made an invitation to a meeting to get these two idiots together?"
"I...may have been messing around with Publisher..." Beef was shaking his head.
"And if one of them found one of these invitations...?" Baj raised an eyebrow as Pause seemed to come to the realization.
"Well...I only gave it to us!" The group groaned.
"Let's all just hope we don't get found out then."
"Sorry..." Pause seemed to shrink in his seat.
"I still don't understand, shouldn't we just...let them work it out themselves?" Mhykol asked, getting sighs and face palms as replies.
"Of course not! Have you seen them? At all?" Anderz chuckled.
"They're like /students./ Teenagers, for god's sake it's annoying." Baj added and pinched the bridge of his nose.
"Which is exactly why we need them to stop walking in circles and get them to be together."
"Well, how do we even know they /want/ to be together?" Myhkol questioned again.
"Because if you just spend time with them, look at the way the interact and talk and fucking /smile/ at each other. It makes me want to just push them in a coat closet that would only fit one person in it." Pause threw his hands above his head. "Do you not remember Guude's birthday last year? BDoubleO made him that scale model building thing? I don't think I've ever been around to see Guude unable to say something."
"Or see BDoubleO that nervous." They all paused, remembering the party.
"Anyways! Plans to get them to actually stop being stupid and kiss?" Generik looked out at all of them, "Suggestions? Big plan with code names? Anything at all, don't hold it in."
"Well...," Vetches started.
"Oh thank god," Generik let out a breath and nodded at Vechs to continue.
----
The week passed as it was being carried by a slug. BDoubleO felt as though he was never going to get out of the weekdays and onto the week's end where he could just sit at home and think about nothing.
But it was still only Wednesday and he still had another class. It wasn't for another hour and a half, but he really had nothing more to do than to sit in his chair and stare up at the ceiling.
That is until Pyro waltzed in. Well, waltzed would be putting it gracefully. He opened the door, causing BDubs to look up in time to see everything.
The kid stepped in, managed to trip on himself, fall forwards on his face, his leg catching on the wire from the lamp that stood next to the door which brought that down on him, and it all ended with a crash and an, "Ow." from Pyro.
BDoubleO blinked having to see the image of Pyro on the floor with the lamp on top of him to make sure he hadn't just imagined that whole thing. The he had to clamp a hand over his mouth to keep the laughter from bursting out because that would /not/ be good.
"Oh my /god./" he said, rising from his chair. He picked up the lamp off of him, setting it up right. BDoubleO returned to Pyro who was on his hands and knees gathering his books and papers into his arms and then standing.
"That was stupid of me. Sorry, is your lamp okay?" Pyro winced as he glanced to the lamp standing behind BDoubleO. He couldn't help but let out a bark of laughter.
"Are you kidding me? That thing trips you and you're asking if it's okay?" He can't help it when he laughs again at the blank face and shrug. "I'm sure it'll be fine. Are you?"
Pyro rubbed the back of his head with his free hand and nodded. "I think I'll be okay."
"Good, good. Sorry, did you need something from me?" BDoubleO smiled and Pyro seemed to remember something when he said that.
"Yes! Yes, Genny was telling me how you had this book last from Doc, and I was hoping that you'd let me look into it?" He pulled out a green sticky note. BDubs squinted at the messy handwriting of GenerikB.
"Right. Yeah! 'Course you can. Just let me...find it," he walked back to his desk, opening a couple of drawers and shuffling through some of them until he pulled out the book. "Here we go. Hope you read it. I never got passed the first few chapters."
"I will. Thank you." Pyro grinned, adding the book to his arm full of things. He turned to go, carefully avoiding the lamp and some how managing to get the door open with everything he was carrying.
"See you," he called as the door shut and BDoubleO was back to the silence it had started out being.
Meanwhile just outside the door Pyro held the book out to Millbee and MC were waiting for him. MC quickly flipped through it, the book marked page opening. The three grinned at one another.
"Perfect."
----
"Hells Blazes," BDoubleO mumbles as he hits his head against the doorframe like he does /every/ time he tries to walk in the dark. It's not that he wants to but someone is calling him at who-the-hell-knows o'clock and he thinks it's better to answer now instead of getting no sleep ignoring the buzzing.
"Hello?" he answers, having to close his eyes from the bright light the phone had produced.
"Thank fuck!" he hears on the other end of the line. Guude. "I know you were probably sleeping, sorry, but...I-"
"What's wrong?" he asks, a bit of urgency in his tone now that he's heard the tone of Guude's.
"I...you can't tell anyone else. None of them can know."
"Okay, okay. I promise. What's happening?"
"I...He's back. He's back. They told me he's coming by to check on the school." Guude said, his voice wearing thin. BDoubleO had only known of one person who had ever made Guude sound like that.
"Ender?" he asked. The line was silent and BDoubleO could imagine Guude trying to get his act together. After everything, if that is who Guude was speaking of, his return would be anything but a fantastic reunion.
"Yes."
"Guude, I'm-"
"Don't say you're sorry because this isn't your fault." There was a pause before Guude laughed, "Unless this is your doing, then I'm going to kick your ass."
"No," BDoubleO quickly got in. "No, no no no. I would never-."
"I know." Another moment of silence took over and BDoubleO ran a hand through his hair, closing his eyes tightly.
"It's going to be fine."
"How do you know that?"
"I just do, we dealt with him for years. We can get through a visit."
"But-"
"No. /No./ Don't doubt yourself. It's going to be fine."
"Yeah, you said that."
"Because I know what I'm talking about." He heard Guude sigh and the faint chuckle he emitted.
"Sorry I woke you. I know how you need your sleep. For your face, or whatever."
"Don't worry about it." BDoubleO rubbed the heal of his hand into his right eye. "You should get some sleep, too."
"See you tomorrow?"
"You bet."
----
Of course when BDoubleO had said that he didn't expect to see Guude walk through the door of his class room when his class had just ended. He looked up as Guude was smiling at the kids who were leaving. BDoubleO watched as Guude seemed to be in awe of the classroom, as if he hadn't lived in one for the majority of his life.
"What do I owe the pleasure of you coming down to the lower levels?" BDoubleO grinned when Guude looked back towards him.
"Oh you know, just wanted to check out what you guys are all up to."
"You know what we're up to. You're the one who tells up what we have to be up to." Guude sighed, slumping slightly, "Try again."
"I need your help. I...I don't know what I'm going to do." Guude walked over to a student's desk and sat down hard in the seat. He looked tired and defeated.
"Didn't I tell you to get some sleep last night?" BDoubleO sighed, making his way over to the desk as well.
"When do I ever take advice from you?"
"All the time! Ever wonder how you got yourself to where you are today?" BDoubleO smirked as Guude rolled his eyes.
"I'd like to think it was based on my skills and good personality."
"I hate to break it to you, but..." But they had both broke out into laughter before he could finish. Not that he could anyways. They both flinched at the sound of a knock on the door. They gave each other a look before BDoubleO responded with a, "Door's open."
Guude stood when they saw who opened the door. Neither expecting it. BDoubleO glanced sideways at Guude who seemed to stiffen. BDoubleO watched as he stepped through into the room. Exactly how he remembered him. Tall and thin, dressed in a black suit that seemed to be the same shade his neatly trimmed hair was. If there was thing he had learned from spending of years at the hand of this man it had been to never look him in the eyes.
"Mr. Ender-" BDoubleO started, but was cut off.
"It's Doctor, BDoubleO. You should know that by now." the man said, stepping into the classroom. He looked over the room with a look that conveyed something of disgust ad BDoubleO couldn't tell if that was his neutral expression or something he only put on once and a while. He watched as the tall man moved to his desk, his finger carrying across varying surfaces.
"Right, sorry. /Dr./ Ender. It's um,..good to see you." he tried again. He glanced back at Guude who looked as if he needed another minute to find his voice.
"I know." Dr. Ender said in return. BDoubleO let out a huff of air as he watched him pick up a stack of papers on his desk and shuffle through them as he moved across the room, then set them down on one of his bookshelves.
"I, uh...what gives us the pleasure of seeing you here? In my classroom?" BDoubleO ground out as Dr. Ender moved a student's desk to another position.
"When I went to find the head administrator his secretary told me he would be here." Mr. Ender stopped and look towards them. "She was right, at least. Here he is and here you are."
"Right...well, uh," BDoubleO looked to Guude giving him a nod of reassurance.
"I'm right here. Let's go back to my office? We can talk there." Guude said, stepping towards the doors.
"What a splendid idea. I'd like to see what you've done to that office. Hopefully it won't be as...tasteless as some of the classrooms you have." he said, glancing around the class room once more. BDoubleO had to clench his jaw from saying something. Instead he let out a breath, looked back to Guude giving him a curt smile and turning back to Dr. Ender.
"It was...good seeing you again, sir." he said tightly, holding out his hand to him. Dr. Ender took it, his hand was boney and cold but grasped his hand harder than necessary.
He watched them leave, immediately setting everything back to the way it was. He plopped down in his chair and could only hope Guude would be able to survive with out him.
There was only a moment's peace before he heard his door open once more. This time numerous sets of footsteps filling up the room's silence.
"BDubs! Was that really-"
"Ender! What in the fuck is he-"
"Doing here?"
"Is Guude getting fired?"
"Please don't tell me he's coming back!"
"No!"
"Fuck!"
BDoubleO looked up at the lot of them. Generik, Pause, Beef, and Anderz all stood looking at each other worriedly.
"So much for not telling them..." he thought aloud.
"This is getting ridiculous." Generik said, looking down the table at everyone. They all shrugged and nodded. "We all know why we're here right?"
"Of course. It was on the invitation!" Seth grinned, pulling out a copy. Baj rounded on Pause.
