So is it just me, or are more things relating to The Salad Stand (like addressing concerns and just outright talking to one another) happening in other places (like Tumblr and Skype and whatever else I'm forgetting) and less is happening here?

I don't know, I just wanted to point that out (but seriously, it's been forever since we've had a Sunday Chat).

... I have not noticed the absence of the Sunday Chat, but now that you bring it up...

I'm not sure about Tumblr, but Skype sure feels like it's been experiencing periods of high activity/inactivity. :P I think Celeste mentioned once that with all the hype elsewhere, Dream has been neglected. D:

Yeah, I just looked, and the last chat was 10/20... Which isn't that long ago, but considering it used to be every Sunday... yeah.

Being active on tumblr I definitely notice much more discussion there and I can see it being the same on Skype. I think it could be people thinking that the width should only be used for posting prompts and fics, maybe..? I do hope the Sunday chat comes back though. It has been a while!

It seems as though Skype is the major way we all converse in the Salad. Dream does feel a bit neglected, and it HAS been a while since we had a Sunday chat.

I don't know about tumblr, because there is basically a whole different part of the fandom over there.

So no. It's not just you. I have noticed it too.

Most of the talk happens in the Skype group nowadays. It's just an easier and more immediate form of communication.

That said, it wouldn't be a problem to add you. Just shoot me your Skype name. :3

Like Kappa, I'm already on the Skype chat, but it's been a bit buggy for me, though I'm blaming it on Windows 8.

I try to remember to post the Sunday chat but life has been pretty terribly hectic for me over the last month/ month and a half, so I apologize for them not happening ;-;

I don't mean to discount the role that regular chat posts play in our community cohesion, but I don't think the lack of Sunday Chats is really the heart of the problem here. I think it goes deeper than that. At least for me it does.

Seeing as I have no computer that can handle skype now, it does feel as though everything's happening in the chat and if you're not in it, you're out of the loop.

Tumblr, I see a lot of activity on there compared to on Dream.

Dream is slowing down in the rates of things being posted. It kinda seems like the back burner for fics and prompts now.

I gave up on Skype weeks ago. Everything's split between like five groups and it's impossible to keep up, and even if you are crazy enough to read through the backlog, it's pointless because once the topics have changed, you feel like you can't comment on a past discussion anymore. Seeing interesting discussions I wasn't around for made me feel even more out of the loop than not bothering at all.

To be fair, dreamwidth is not the best place for regular conversation, things dissapear really quickly from view, there is no organisation to it and trying to look up something specific is a nightmare. Livejournal had the same problem, which is why I never considered either plattform a place of discussion, rather as a place to collect and maybe discuss time specific finds or topics. -Such as is done in the sunday chat for example.
For any regular discussion/debate - in long terms - I would always, ALWAYS prefere a forum.
And if you just want to have nice talk, the go to thing would be a chat, which happens to be Skype in this case.
Maybe tumblr too, I don't know as I am not active in that part because I get more annoyed by the lack of abilitys to respond to something over there then anything else.

As things are now, I personally consider dreamwidth the place to share fan creations and to share importand information, that you would not want those who are currently not in the chat to miss.

If we take steps to use the discussion tag more, so that you can actually look up these informations & discussions better, without other things beeing there to distract you, we might be able add some more of those aspects to mindcracklove.
While we're at it, I suggest tags for the Sunday Chat and shared links (to photos for example)? If there are taggs for that too, it's a lot easier to catch up to things if you've not been arround for a while.

It was easier in the earlier days when there weren't as many members and fanfiction posts were a rare treat, so posts didn't get hopelessly buried within two days like they do now, but it's impossible for me to talk any further on this topic without sounding like one of those cranky old geezers who go on about the good old days and how everything that changes isn't as good. I don't want to sound like that. But sometimes I still feel like that cranky old geezer, nostalgic for how things used to be, and it makes me sad.

Tumblr is okay. I'm active over there, but I've griped before about how I don't consider it a good platform for discussions if all you're looking for is discussions. I haven't considered a forum before, but there would be a lot of special challenges if that were to happen, because we'd be creating a new space from scratch rather than utilizing a platform that a lot of people already use (like Skype and Tumblr).

Well, I didn't use dreamwidth before joining here, so it would not seem that much of a diffrence to a forum.
I'd always prefere one, but this is where the salad is at, so we have to make the best out of it =)

I have so many latent thoughts about this, like you have no idea. It really bums me out, because I used to love checking up here every day, but now everything feels different and the ways I used to love discussing things don't seem to fit anymore.

I feel a bit like isi does, except less helpless about it since I do use and enjoy the Skype chat (and tumblr too for that matter). I have tried to post things here that are more in line with the non-fic things that I enjoy (mostly just random squee-ing, because that's what I do). I rarely get much in the way of responses though. But even on Skype I don't always get what I'm looking for.

I think if people want more types of things here, they/we should just post them. Now somebody go squeal about semi-orgasmic Zisteau sounds with me.

I have given some thought to how I should change how I participate and just create more topics that I want to see, because I don't just want to be that person just sitting in a corner feeling sorry for herself (which is probably how I'm coming off here), but then I just bounce back and forth between wondering if it's worth it to make that effort (like how you said you don't get many comments on your non fic posts).

I just have a lot of complicated emotions surrounding this and I am sorry. Semi orgasmic Zisteau certainly sounds squeal worthy, though.

I was always scared I was spamming whenever I posted anything that wasn't fanfic... I didn't want to post stuff that nobody cared about and just felt like clutter.
