Well, here's the first part of my much-too-huge Halloween fic that probably won't be finished till December. Enjoy!

It was a chilly sunrise on the server that day. The 29th of October, everyone was preparing for the Halloween party that Guude had planned for the night of the 31st, in Bdubs's Town Hall. There would be dancing and laughter, but only Guude knew what was planned for later that night. This would certainly be a Halloween to remember.
News of the party was so big that it reached Salad's side of town in no time. Of course everyone was invited, but sometimes interaction was tough between the Salads and the Mindcrackers. Amd had moved everyone loyal to Salad to the west side of town when he felt Guude was overstepping his leadership. After all, Amd was the original leader of Salad, and he would keep it that way.
Rivalries aside, life on Saladcrack went along like normal. People talked, and pranked, and caved, and built things, and fought Withers, and went to the Nether to die in a fire, and so on. On this particular day, it seemed that there was an unusually large amount of people milling about at spawn.
Curlycue sighed from the balcony of her upstairs apartment in her Veterinary Clinic, gazing out at the fall leaves and enjoying the cool air. Fall was nice, but Winter was the season that truly stood out to Curly. Glancing around at the people dispersed over the ground like ants on a peanut-butter and honey sandwich, she noticed several things. Curlycue always seemed to be noticing things.
First, she saw Vechs under a tree talking quietly with Dei, Lemmy, and Mew. Briefly considering her options, she decided not to get involved with another one of Vechs's schemes. It could only mean bad news.
Next she saw Kurt walking along with several spruce logs in his arms, Wolfie in tow, with Kappa and Blue hurrying to keep up with their own stacks of spruce. Kurt was smart; firewood would be important for the upcoming months.
Glancing in a different direction, she noticed someone leading a donkey on a lead toward her clinic. It wasn't just any someone though; soon her heart skipped a beat as she realized who was coming up the path.
She rushed down the stairs and pulled on her old, worn out leather boots before stepping outside. Sure enough, there he was just outside the fence to the small stable.
"Hi!" Curly said and rushed over to where Beef stood. "What's up?"
"Hey! It's just Dana, she's not eating."
Curlycue's instinctive care towards animals kicked in and she diverted her attention to the solemn-faced donkey. "Nothing?"
"Nothing. No hay, no water, she won't even eat apples." He said.
"Bring her in." She said and opened the gate to the stables where Curly's own horse, Joseph, was grazing on a fresh bale of hay.
Quickly she ran inside to grab several instruments and some gloves. Returning, she found Beef petting Dana's drooping head in worry.
"Okay, let's have a look." Curly was in full work mode now. First she let Dana get used to her touch and know that there was no danger involved.
"Hey sweetie. You having some stomach issues today?" She muttered in a cooing voice. Although no animal has ever understood her, Curly is a firm believer in the power of positive energy.
Glancing over Dana's eyes and nose with a small flashlight, she examined for anything odd. She checked her teeth for anything that would make eating painful, like a tooth cavity, but found nothing. Next Curly knelt on the ground next to the donkey and used a stethoscope to listen for anything irregular. As soon as she moved the scope over Dana's belly, she reacted.
"Ah." She stood up and looked in the donkey's mouth again. "Mm-hmm." Turning to Beef, she removed her gloves. "It's stomach acid. I have a pill that'll take care of that right quick." She smiled and walked back to her workshop.

Book was having a wonderful day. First, there were no creepers outside when she got up. She had just enough emeralds to pay for that new pick. Cheers, her neighbor, had finally finished the clean up on that eyesore of a prank Ficeny had pulled last week (surrounding her house with cacti on sand blocks).
So when she passed by Curly's Veterinary Clinic and saw Beef, she was delighted. Walking up to the fence around Curly's stables, she took a deep breath and spoke. "Hi, Beef!"
"Oh, hey Book." Beef said, turning his head to look at her.
"What's wrong with Dana?" Book asked, honestly concerned.
"Apparently it's stomach acid. But don't worry, Curlycue's going to fix it." He said.
Book smiled. "Well, that's good."
"So, what are you doing in town?"
"Oh, I just came to get a new fortune pick because my old one fell in lava. I'm going caving today."
"Really?" Beef asked, looking up. "I was actually planning on going caving today too. There's a nice ravine west of Cool's house."
At that moment, Curly returned from her workshop, carrying a horse pill. "Alright, this should do it. Don't let her eat anything but hay for 24 hours, and she should be fine."
"Thanks, Curly. I really appreciate it." Beef said, his attention now on the veterinarian.
"No problem. It's my pleasure." Curly smiled.
"Well," Beef said, turning back to Book. "We could go caving together, if you want."
"Caving? Together?" Curly was taken off guard.
"Yeah," Book said, "I was going caving today."
"Can... can I come?" Curly asked.
Book was disappointed. "If you want, I guess." This was her only chance for some alone time with Beef!
"Hey, CC!" came a shout from across the street.
Curlycue turned at the sound of her much-hated nickname that Generik had given her when she first joined the SaladCrack community.
"Hello, GennyB." She said, obviously perturbed.
"Hey, Sylvester's not doing so good. Can you take a look?"
Letting out a controlled breath, she turned, forced a smile, and responded. "Yes, of course." Turning back to Book and Beef for another instant she said, "You two have fun."
Book smiled, almost tauntingly. "Same to you."
Curly stuck her tongue out at Bookworm when Beef had his head turned back to Dana. Both knew the other's interest in Beef, but neither would admit it. Turning back to her clinic and GenerikB's grouchy cat, she left the two standing there by the stables.
Book was having a wonderful day.
