In honor of MC Day, a primer about his friend and fellow Cobblehater Nebris, with a video-link-filled ship section on MC/Nebris. The section on Etho/Nebris needs links, which I may or may not get to ever. As always, lavish your feedback upon me, and I will try to make edits to anything that is found drastically missing or in error. I have some busy times coming up, though, so it may have to wait.
Real Life:
Nebris (real name Christopher Ray) grew up in Pittsburgh, PA and currently lives near Boston, MA, working as a Java developer for a company that makes student information systems. He was born in 1987, though his exact birthday is unknown. He attended college at Penn State, and is still in contact with many of his friends from college with whom he does fantasy football drafts. As of this writing he has not appeared in a photo or video, but he has stated a desire to do facecam eventually. He will be attending PAX East 2013, so it seems likely that photos will finally surface. Of his appearance, it can be assumed that he has brown hair and a beard based on his skin.
He enjoys Disney movies, football, and the Guild Wars series, and has mixed feelings on alcohol. He also has a deeper voice in the morning, which many refer to as his 'morning voice', and is commonly found to be incredibly sexy. Someone really ought to disabuse him of the notion that there is anything bad about this voice - he thinks it's awful.
Minecraft Mindcrack:
He joined the server in January of 2011 by winning a contest set up by Guude. The contest entailed answering 26 questions about Season 1, with a twist - the questions were written on signs hidden throughout the save file of the Season 1 map. It's been said that there were rumors that Nebris cheated to find these signs and that was the beginning of his cheater reputation, but this author cannot find a source for these accusations.
He and his builds were featured in videos by Guude in Season 2. On a visit to Nebris's base in Season 2, Guude first stated his belief that Nebris cheats. Nebris has admitted to cheating on occasion - he did take advantage of a piston duplication glitch during Season 2, though that was not actually the genesis of his namesake of cheater.
When the new world on the Mindcrack server was created, Nebris was in charge of mapping out the roads and house plots for the spawn village that the Mindcrackers would be restricted to until the release of Minecraft Beta 1.9. He came up with a variety of building codes for everyone to follow and assigned plots to each member of the server - and then assigned himself the largest plot, and completely disregarded all of the codes for his house. His status of villain was cemented after he left spawn village and began working on his new base with a large glowstone pattern at the bottom. To obtain this glowstone, he harvested it from the areas surrounding the Nether Portals of all the other server members, thus obtaining a reputation for loving glowstone and a reputation as a thief and cheater. His obsession with glowstone has since gone memetic, and he hoards it in every series he can, and uses it constantly in his builds.
His Let's Play of the Mindcrack server began in October 2011 with him leaving the spawn village to strike out and find a new base. He has a massive underground branching base and a tower above the ground named 'the Citadel'. Both sections of his base are constant works-in-progress. He also created the 'Ender Ender', an Enderman farm with a variable enchanting station in The End. The Ender Ender was the most efficient XP farm on the server until the changes to enchanting in 1.3. Nebris regularly participates in server-wide events such as the Slaying of the Ender Dragon, the Wither Boss fight (to which he contributed Wither Skulls that he had farmed, and received one of the Nether Stars in payment), and the Team B Trial, and also participates in the prank wars to an extent. Nebris livestreams from the Mindcrack server regularly.
Nebris has participated in four seasons of Ultra Hardcore to date - 5, 6, 7, and 8. Seasons 5, 7, and 8 were free-for-all Higlander-style, while in Season 7 Nebris was teamed up with just_defy, another Mindcracker known for his cheating (though significantly less so than Nebris). He did not do poorly in any of his seasons - his team won season 7! - and often his interactions with other players during the season create epic moments of fan art and awesomeness throughout the Mindcrack fandom. Nebris was killed by PauseUnpause in both seasons 5 and 6 in remarkably similar battles - they lasted a few minutes each, with Pause having to slay all of Nebris's wolves before he could kill Nebris. However, in Season 6, Nebris was able to kill Pause at the same time, resulting in the first double kill in Ultra Hardcore history. In season 8, Nebris was merely the second person to be slain by Etho, but also after a decently long battle. However, he did get the first kill of the season, slaying BdoubleO after chasing him across a desert.
In addition to Mindcrack, Nebris occasionally plays Vechs maps (though he has only recorded one recently, the new map 'Waking Up') and also does a Minecraft series called 'Cobblehaters' with MC Gamer, Pakratt, and Rayman in which nothing using cobblestone is allowed to be used or created, and cobblestone must be discarded if collected.
Fanon and Shipping:
Though Nebris participates in server events and the prank wars, and posts plenty of collaborative videos and interacts with others on livestreams, he does not appear to have many close friendships with other server members the way others do. This author's primary theory on why Nebris lacks these close friendships has to do with how long he's been on the Mindcrack server, how he got on, and the kind of player he is. A majority of the people who were members of the Mindcrack server when he joined no longer play on the server, and in place of the contests allowing new and untested players to join, the Mindcrack server has become invite-only, which means that every new member has at least one or two friends on the server, and enough of a following to be invited to join. Nebris's only non-Mindcrack collab video series is Cobblehaters, unlike many of the other server members who have a large variety of series's of a variety of games that they play with other Let's Players and server members. As a result, Nebris does not appear to be especially close or friendly with most members of the server. This does not stop the shipping, of course.
Nebris/MC Gamer is an obvious choice for a ship for Nebris. Nebris was the only other member of the server featured in MC's Challenge Mindcrack series. They both do Cobblehaters together (and have a great chemistry/friendship there). They have gone caving together, pranked Etho together (and suffered the consequences, though MC did betray Arkas, but not Nebris), and hunted Etho together. Nebris has been featured on a couple of MC's 'Mindcrack at Dusk' livestreams, especially Episode 5, where other people went in and out of the Skype call but MC and Nebris spent a good hour and a half on Skype together, with MC even joining Nebris in the Ender Ender to keep him company.
Nebris/Etho. Where does one begin with Nebris/Etho? Everything that Nebris is good at - PVP, redstone, building - Etho is as good at if not better. Nebris plays the villain, but Etho is the man of mystery. Their antagonistic relationship has lasted for a long time, from prank wars to Death Games to livestreams to Ultra Hardcore. The Death Games deserve some explanation - during a livestream, Nebris, MC, and Arkas harassed Pause (who was harassing them while they were pranking Etho), and killed him. In retaliation for Team Canada, Etho set up the Death Games. He would slay each of them two times, only in their own bases, unless they betrayed and killed each other. Betrayal would subtract a kill from their total. Nebris's videos after the Death Games were instated are full of paranoia and conversation with Etho, though he always makes sure to clarify that he and Etho are good friends despite the paranoia Etho incites - aww. Nebris has only released three prank wars videos, and two of those pranks were on Etho. Perhaps Nebris doesn't know how to show his feelings, so he harasses Etho the best way he can? Nebris's respect for Etho is made constantly clear, as his frustration at his inability to slay Etho (even once asking Pause "How do you do it?"), but so is their friendship, talking about game mechanics and shooting TNT cannons. The relationship is properly complex, suffice it to say.

Date: Friday, October 19th, 2012 01:23 pm (UTC)I would actually argue that Nebris and Etho are equal at building, or that Nebris is better than Etho at it, but it's quite true that Etho is the better at PVP and redstone at the moment. I look forward to the UHC where he knocks Etho out of the competition (It's coming, I swear! One of these days, he'll finally get him) because I bet his reaction will be priceless. It was rather adorable in the Wither Battle PVP fight when Nebris kept trying to kill Etho and Etho just wouldn't die... and Nebris got really frustrated with that. "How many times have I hit him already?" It was hilarious.

Date: Friday, October 19th, 2012 06:23 pm (UTC)I might include the origins of or at least the existence of the "of justice~" tagline to everything Nebris does. And today I learned the official name of his ludicrous and amazing castle, and that he did an AMA! :D (Also, how did I miss MC and Nebs caving together??? I learn things all the time.)
Have some Ethonian links to make your life easier: Nebris' view of the prank, setup of the games, Ender Pearlin' like a champion, another attempt, paranoia sets in.
