Fanfic - Dreams - Chapter 13
Friday, August 30th, 2013 03:02 pmSecond last chapter! Things start getting really wrapped up.
Finally, the tale was done and everyone was watching us with wide eyes. Exhausted, I slumped to the ground. “Okay, I’m done.” I took a deep and shaky breath. “Now what?”
Guude was in a much better shape than he’d been before I started, and had fallen asleep at some point without my noticing.
“You’ve got to fix this, then,” Pause said after a moment’s thought. “Go into the code, then go back and stop all of this from happening.”
“If this doesn’t work -” I took another breath, “if this doesn’t work, will you guys be fine without us?”
He nodded confidently. “We’ve been fine before.” Ignoring that I’d been the one to actually save them from Vechs, he continued, “We’ll be fine now.”
We locked eyes. I slowly arose from the ground and turned to Dinnerbone. “Ready?”
“Yeah.” He put one arm on my shoulder and I put one hoof on his. “Hang on.”
The programmer’s hand became enveloped by a mysterious blue glow.
/op Dinnerbone
He swiped at the air with his glowing hand. The corners of my sight became enveloped by the same blue. It grew stronger and brighter, until it completely overtook me.

Blackness swirled before me in a way that was uncomfortably familiar, and I thought back to the nightmare I had before. I blinked, hoping to clear it away. For the most part, it vanished, replaced by a wall of bright white text.
We were floating in dark nothingness, I realized, Dinnerbone and I. He was hovering to my right, scanning the strange text for something he could recognize as unfamiliar.
“There!” He pointed to a lone line on the wall. Staring at it, it became clear that the code I was seeing was in another language. It wasn’t GSA, it wasn’t english, it wasn’t anything recognizable at all.
Trying not to sound dense, I asked awkwardly, “What does it, uh, mean?”
“Oh.” He seemed suddenly aware of my confusion. “It’s not... it’s kind of a random line of text, but nothing that should’ve been added. As far as I can tell, it just dictates to find the easiest accessible file within the server and make some alteration to it. Gimme a sec.”
The line was encompassed by a green highlight for a brief moment. “Alright, I’ve saved it. I can study it later.” He turned to me. “If we delete it here, though, it’ll do nothing to fix the past. Can you go back to before the incident?”
“Maybe?” I hadn’t bothered to ask anyone how they’d done... whatever it was they’d been granted by the anomaly. People like Pause, Etho and Beef did it naturally, and Nebris’ gift had come rather unwillingly.
I sighed. How was this supposed to work? Push through my thoughts and hope for the best? I spread my feet wide into a strong stance, and put my hooves out loosely before me in hopes of something, anything, happening.
I could slowly feel a strange sensation at the edge of my mind. It was something new, unfamiliar, and I grabbed onto it. Someone asked me a question.
When?
I told them.
We vanished.
