DOODLING IS GOOD. GOOD IS DOODLING.

Today's topic is SixElona's OOG at Minecon drawings, both regular and genderbent. In general, what's your view on genderbent Mindcrack? How do you think the upcoming Minecon will or will not inspire artists?

Now go to sleep, mod.

I've got a knee-jerk reaction against genderbent stuff because I've been in too many fandoms where it's used as a way to ship characters without having to write gay romance/sex between an otherwise popular slash ship. Having the entire cast genderbent, however, is a different matter entirely, since it still preserves the gay and is clearly done for YAY WOMEN vs. "ewwww gay people." I'll probably never write or draw genderbent Mindcrackers because it doesn't overly interest me (I like the guys as they are, and am the one who will be writing Pause/an actual fucking sheep or Kurt/an actual pigman if I ever write those pairings), but as an art form or concept, it doesn't bother me, and does sometimes amuse me. (Though I don't always agree with some of Six's interpretations of swapped genders... DocM/NurseM especially comes to mind as one I disagree with. Doc-the-character is not a sexy stud-type, so it doesn't make sense to me that NurseM would be the cliché sultry-nurse. I'd rather see her be a Sarah Connor-type to his Terminator skin.)

As for how Minecon will inspire artists, oh man. It's gonna be crazy, you know it. SO many of them going! Not only that, but I suspect that in real life some of the guys will pair off in really unexpected ways when they discover their personalities work better (or worse) IRL than online. (Or some of them who never interact on the server, but might do more hanging IRL. Pyro and Millbee come to mind.)

I also predict that Genny IRL is going to become popular. (Do we know his IRL name?) I forsee Genny!IRL/John becoming A Thing, in fact, and probably more popular than GenerikB/Bdouble0, if just because Genny's skin is a toothless old man who is in no way sexy, whereas Genny IRL is a decent looking man. It may be different in this fandom, but it's been the case in pretty much every fandom that I've been in that if there's a character that has shipping potential but is ugly or otherwise unshippable (a monster, a blood-relative, etc.) people often take the "easy" way out and ship RPF. If we get some shippy Genny/Bdubs IRL videos, I definitely think it'll happen.

Also, the subreddit hit 10,000 people today, which is insane. The bigger the subreddit gets, the more likely I think it is that we will pick up more members to this group, and the more members there are here the more shipping and stuff will happen. I think Minecon has the potential to bring a bunch of new people here due to IRL videos and networking... I LOOK FORWARD TO IT.

Damn, 10K on the reddit.

You're making me wish Minecon was here already. And I was doing so well at not paying attention to the dates so I don't get impatient.

I don't mind the genderbent stuff. To me, it's so silly on the surface that I don't think I can take it too seriously, even in the cases where the names might otherwise be construed as crude or sexist. And I usually like the actual visual interpretations of the characters. There are some that I probably would have imagined differently, but I don't mind them.

I may or may not be in the middle of a genderbent, glamourised Orange Wool duo who I have tentatively named 'Tangerine Cashmere'.

I started out trying for just MC and Millbee, honestly. :/

Edit: sorry, should have been a reply to the post. Not fully functional today.

I decided to try out Paint Tool Sai just today. Oh man, so much nicer to draw with - I was teaching myself with Gimp.

I'll post it for you when I have something done (or done-ish).

I'm so torn myself on the flairs. I don't know if I should join Orange Wool or stick with Cobblehaters, gaaah so much indecision!

I'm doing it. I'm switching. I'm watching today's episode, and it's way too funny.

Interestingly, I'm not sure how much it'd bother me in this fandom. I'm not sure how interested I'd be in it, but there's a huge difference for me knowing that people are doing it to explore the change in dynamics, or something, vs. as a way to avoid writing a gay couple, if that makes sense.

I like genderbent stuff in general, it's a fun way of playing with the characters. Although I've never used it in fanfic, I have done several genderbend cosplays.

It's not exactly genderbend, but I've had some ideas for art with female figures inspired by various Mindcrackers (as opposed to female versions *of* them). I'm unhappy with my skill level though, and still getting used to digitial art and trying to make the software do what I want.
