Fanfic - To Answer

I've been lurking here for a while, finally decided to post something. I guess I made a thing, a medieval AU thing. And then I wrote a basic sketch of a story because why not? My first story on here was going to be something else, but that one's still long in the making, so we get this little thing instead. Sorry. I'm a sucker of OOG, though admittedly I prefer imagining them as best platonic friends.

Bdoubleo rushes into the room and skids to a wobbly stop as he sees Guude. Because… Wow. Wow. There’s no physical difference about the man, same clothes, same face, but now Guude radiates power. The proper power of a king, sunlight and stars wrapped in muscle and bone. Something in his stance, a flare in his eyes, Guude glows with it.

Bdoubleo remembers this feeling. It is familiar and from so, so long ago, back in the beginning. He will answer, as he did Before.

He dons his helm and snaps on his cape, dropping to one knee. “Lord Guudeboulderfist of Forohfor, Sir Jason, Knight of the Lost Link.” The cape pools around his feet, a wash of bright scarlet cloth against the cool stone floor.

Guude turns in surprise. “Bdou- oh.” He smiles in realization. “Jonathon the Bard.”

He steps forward, lithe grace in every footfall, full of unconscious purpose. “Rise, John. It’s been a while. And at least start calling me Guude again.”

Bdoubleo gets to his feet. It has been a while.

“Also, didn’t I knight you at some point?” Guude asks, a memory niggling at the corner of his mind. He snatches at it, trying to eke context from a ghost.

“You were really drunk,” Bdoubleo confirms. “I prefer to forget about it.”

A grin forms on his face as memory enlightens him. “Sir… Sir BOO of Derp, right?”

‘Sir BOO of Derp’ buries his face in his hands as Guude begins laughing himself to pieces. “Lord Guude…”

“Guude,” Guude says through his cackling. “Just Guude, like normal. You never could manage Jason. At least don’t start slipping into the Lord thing again.” His giggles go unstifled for a few moments more.

Bdoubleo rolls his eyes. “What’s with the, the kingliness, Guude?” Exasperated emphasis on the name.

Serious face on now, Guude looks at Bdoubleo. “There’s a problem. I got a note today.” A slip of paper slides between his fingers as he flicks it around to show Bdoubleo the name signed hastily in fine black ink. “Dinnerbone says there’s a war coming. Soon. He wants me to retake my title of Lord and rally Mindcrack.”

Bdoubleo blinks. “He must be really desperate.”

“I know!” Guude chokes out through near-hysterical laughter. “It’s like arming a time-bomb! He just told me to arm a damn time bomb! And I gotta aim it! Do you know how hard it is to aim a giant ball of explosions and death!?”

Bdoubleo watches Guude as he panics and paces. Behind the Lord, Guude is still Guude. That mantle of power is still there, that aura which once compelled him to kneel to a lonely Lord and drag him off to lands unknown, but this is Guude, too. And Guude is so human. Guude who laughs like a maniac, worries over every little thing, gets drunk with him, talks about adventuring with an excited sparkle and far-off eyes. Bdoubleo takes a breath, because he is Guude’s hope and he is ready to answer.

“Well, no matter what, I’m with you, Guude. Lord or no,” Bdoubleo says, smiling his optimistic smile.

Guude doesn’t thank him. He doesn’t need to thank him. They both know Bdoubleo, Jonathon the Bard, has followed and will follow Guude, Lord Guudeboulderfist of Forohfor, through hellfire and darkness. So Guude just slaps him on the back and grins at him, “You don’t have a choice. You swore fealty to me, Sir BOO-”

“Ah said, you were really drunk! Doesn’t count!"

I'd be happy to post the sort of "background info" for this 'verse, because I haven't exactly provided any context, but only if people want it.

I could totally see Guude drunkenly knighting someone.

I'm surprised he didn't take BDoubleO's head off with the sword when he did though, haha!

Luckily for our dear BOO, it was near the beginning of one of their Super Hostile runs. The wooden sword did give him a couple slivers, though. ;)

Thanks. :) I kind of wish I had put the time into this 'verse to make it a more accurate portrayal, but I just went with medieval fantasy because, well, Minecraft. :D

Historical inaccuracies just makes the story better. Trust me, I'm working on a story with a lot of inaccuracies.

I think of OOG as the two kid who met in kindergarten. Boo walks up to Guude and is like "I'm going to be friends with you now." And Guude's like 'who's this kid???', but says "K, but you have to go climb a mountain with me, through the forest of dark scary things and across the river of sharks." And from then on they've been inseparable best friends, though they talk to each other a little less in high school and college because, you know, they're kind busy and are friends with more people now. But occasionally Guude's just like "You know, we haven't played with power tools in a while. Let's go find some alcohol!" or "We haven't looked into the crater of an active volcano before, let me find the alcohol!" and drunken adventure ensues.
