A few things to note before you read:

Although this story is set on Earth a lot of it has references to Minecraft (in character design, geography, and habits). You can choose to see the world in either way you see fit because it isn’t set in either universe specifically.

All current Mindcrackers will be in the story eventually. Some will be more prominent than others but eventually all will have chapters revolving solely around them and their story.

I know some Crackers more than others. I will try and write in a way I feel reflects the person as a character but there are some I am only slightly familiar with so if I make them do something you see as out of character let me know and I can correct it for future chapters.

I am not afraid of writing characters out of the story. There may be times when I don’t write or acknowledge characters as much because of the situations; if this happens calm down, they will eventually be back (probably).

I’ve chosen to write it in a way that sounds like casual narration so that it comes more naturally as you read it. If the dialogue, punctuation, or grammar looks wrong it’s probably on purpose but let me know anyway.

There will be subplots in the main story. If two characters get together good for them but I will not make that the main story in any way, simply a subplot of the larger, more complete story.

TL;DR i’m human, i make mistakes

Parasite Z was the genesis of humanity’s end but humanity itself caused its own rapid downfall. The doctors diagnosed it as a common cold because it was appearing throughout the Earth as a common cold would; after a short amount of time the majority of the population had been infected and research was started to find a cure. Eventually that research led to the discovery of a new therapy method that could cure the illness. This therapy went on for 5 years-from 1989 to early 1994-and the world seemed at peace again. This peace was short-lived, however, as nuclear bombs began to be dropped throughout the Earth, causing a nuclear fallout. The survivors of these attacks soon found out about the true agonizingly painful suffering that came with Parasite Z as it began to reappear in those treated.

It kills you slowly; sometimes over weeks, sometimes months, sometimes even years. One thing about Parasite Z, though, is that no matter how long it infects you that period of time will be worse than hell. It attacks the body first, decaying and eating at you from the inside out and making you look like the shingled remains of a rotting corpse. Once there’s nothing left on your skeleton but shredded muscles and diseased skin hanging down it will attack your brain. You’re still fully alive and conscious when this happens; you have no power over what your body is doing as it attacks your nerves and infects your brain, turning you into a lifeless shell of what used to be a sufferer. It’s spread by bodily fluids; blood, vomit, mucus, sweat, and even saliva can carry the disease but you can also be infected just by being in regular contact with those who have had it for long periods of time. Parasite Z is vicious and doesn’t care about who you are or what you used to be, all it cares about is ripping apart the bodies of the innocent and the accused alike.

Was there something going on behind the scenes that caused all of this? Probably. But one thing is certain: between Parasite Z and nuclear radiation now occupying the air Earth has become a wasteland of death and suffering, not to mention having to deal with other survivors while trying to survive yourself. It’s almost amusing seeing how far people will go to survive.

Welcome to the Salad :) This prologue is very interesting and I'm excited (and a little terrified, but in a good way) to see where you go with this.

To do a cut, type < cut > before the text you want to hide under a cut, then < /cut > after you've entered the text you want to be hidden. Just no spaces between the <> around "cut".

Frendly reminder to link your chapters together, as we are all posting to a community, rather then having a space reserved for each story =)

The opening narrative was interesting and makes you wonder who wrote it, and for what. And if one finds out throughout the story.
The most interesting part about this is that we learn that it affects appearance before it affects your mind, so there will be many suicides and mercy kills in this world.
