An Experiment To Save Humanity Chpt. 12: Stress

Here we go with chapter 12, in which we find out something dire, there's some stress, and a few fluffy moments.



Guude's POV

"You expect us to help you test the other 'worlds' even though we barely understand this one?" I question Dinnerbone

"With the current circumstances, yes."

"fine..." I sigh in frustration "how many of us do you need?"

"As many as you can round up."

"I'll see what I can do."

"Thanks, message me when you get the group together."

"Got it."

Dinnerbone blinks out of view and I instantly start typing out a message, telling everyone to meet immediately.

Once everyone, beyond Kurt, was assembled, I started the meeting, getting straight down to business.

"Dinnerbone needs some volunteers to test out some new worlds, anyone interested?"

Zisteau's hand shoots up "Sounds like fun, id love to."

I write down his name, glancing back up at the group.

Vechs, Paul, Nebris, Bdubs, Etho, Beef, and Pause all have their hands raised.

I write down their names as well.

"Alright, those who volunteered stick around, the rest of you can head out."

I wait for everyone to shuffle out and the small group to assemble in front of me, while I wait I message Dinnerbone, who appears beside me.

"Here's the group." I say

"Alright, thanks for volunteering guys, we'll get you set up tomorrow for the specific world you'll be in. For now though, just relax and be ready tomorrow at noon."

the guys start heading out, Zisteau lagging behind slightly, before turning around and walking back over to me.

"Have you seen Kurt? I haven't seen him in a few days and I'm worried about him."

"No ha....." was all I could say before the doors burst open and Kurt walks in, his long coat fluttering behind him

Zisteau rushes over to him, hugging him "I was so worried about you!"

Kurt quickly hugs him before moving away and over to me, looking extremely tired and worried. Zisteau just stands there, looking confused and slightly hurt.

"Those new star charts you gave me, Dinnerbone..... I fear we have a lot less time than you said."

"What?" I ask, staring at him incredulously.

"I can't be sure, without actually seeing it first hand, but, things are progressing really fast, way faster than even I thought it would."

"Would it help if you were actually able to see the current state of things?" Dinnerbone asks

"Yes, it actually would."

"I can make that happen. But, you have to promise me you'll get sleep tonight and make sure you eat and keep yourself hydrated. The teleport will put a serious strain on your body, and in the state your in, you won't be able to make it safely."

"But there's so much research to be done, so many notes to take."

"Kurt. listen to me. You have to relax and take it easy or I can't send you back."

Kurt sighs loudly "Fine"

"Zisteau, since you and Kurt are together, I'm putting you in charge of making sure he gets sleep."

Zisteau, having been brought in to the conversation, replies "I can manage that. But, can I go back with Kurt?"

"Why?" Dinnerbone asks, looking at Zisteau skeptically.

"I dunno, just in case he needs help with anything" Zisteau shrugs "that and the thought scares me...." Zisteau adds quietly

"Fine. get some sleep. I'll teleport you tomorrow at noon, along with the volunteers"

The two, Kurt and Zisteau, head out quietly, Kurt looking exhausted and Zisteau worried and anxious.

"I'm worried about those two." I say

"Yeah, Kurt's really pushing himself, which is putting a serious strain on their relationship."

"yeah....."

"You ok guy?" I hear from a little ways in front of me

I look up from the ground to see Bdubs in front of me, looking rather concerned.

"Just a lot going on, a lot of stress."

"Yeah, I feel ya. You wanna get a drink? That's always helped me get rid of stress, or at least alleviate it for a while."

"Sure"

Kurt's POV

"I'm really worried about you, Kurt." Zisteau says, putting his hands on my arms and looking me over, concern apparent in his eyes.

"I'm fine Z, seriously, just a little tired is all." I respond, trying to justify my claim, but failing epicly, when I couldn't stifle a yawn.

"Why don't we just head to bed, you desperately need sleep, we both do."

I finally take notice to the dark circles and bags under his eyes. Then I realize I'm the one who caused it, and its upsetting.

"I'm.... I'm sorry Z. I'm sorry I worried you so much."

"Its ok Kurt, really it is. I just worry about you sometimes. I know how you can be." Zisteau brings his hand up to caress my cheek, stroking it gently with his thumb.

I shudder at his touch, leaning into it. I lean in and gently press my lips to his, initiating a soft kiss, which was interrupted by a yawn.

We both laugh "I really do need some sleep, lets head to bed"

Guude's POV

I slowly open my eyes, hissing at the bright light filtering through the curtains. I feel the pounding pain in my head, making it hard to comprehend anything. Unable to find the strength to sit up, I re position myself and lay my head back down, feeling something warm under my head, and not soft like my pillows.

I shoot up, thoroughly startled. The pain in my head makes me dizzy and makes it hard to focus.

Once my vision does focus, I see Bdubs, fast asleep beside me, the blankets pulled part way up his stomach, revealing his shirtless chest.

I feel myself blush heavily. I finally take in my apperance, which was nothing, beyond the blanket covering me. Then, a pain, not unpleasant though, in a certain area makes itself known.

I blush heavily at the realization of what happened.

"You can't possibly be awake...." I hear from a very groggy Bdubs, who was still laying down.

"I......"

"Jus' lay down, relax, we can talk later." Bdubs pulls at my arm, tugging me down gently.

I lay my head on his chest as he wrapped his arms around my waist. I felt warm, safe, and, soon enough, felt myself falling asleep.
