OOG OTP Challenge Day 20: Dancing
Thursday, August 20th, 2015 11:26 pmHere it is! We have day 20's fic here, luckily on time! I suppose the good news about not being able to finish yesterday's yesterday is that you technically get two for the price of one today :P (except not really). Anywho, I hope you all enjoy this dancing fic, because I know I enjoyed writing it! :)
Guude felt the music before he was able to hear it. The vibrations of the loud dance music rumbled throughout the building, which was very concerning to Guude, but no one else seemed to mind. Really, though, Guude was just nervous about everything that was to occur that night.
"Hey, Guude!" BdoubleO called out to him from farther down the hallway Guude was walking down, waving to him to get his attention. "Come on over!" Guude's heart began to race as he felt his emotions well up inside of him.
Guude had never been to a school dance with anyone before, and he'd always had a huge crush on BdoubleO, who he'd met in his first days of freshman year. And now, as graduation day approached nearly 4 years later, Guude still had said nothing to BdoubleO about his feelings. It hurt him every time that he saw BdoubleO just because he felt so inadequate compared to him, and he hated how he had never been able to work up the courage to tell BdoubleO.
Despite his internal conflicts, Guude still half-ran, half-jogged over to where BdoubleO was waiting.
"Great to see ya, Guude! I managed to round up all the other guys, so we can all have fun at this dance together! It is our last school dance besides prom, and I want it to be fun and memorable for everyone!" BdoubleO looked stunning as usual, wearing clothes that were both fashionable and useful, and Guude tried to keep his eyes looking at BdoubleO's face, not trusting his eyes not to wander given the chance.
“Good to see you too Bdubs! And yeah, that’s great that we can all be together as friends for this dance, it’s always awesome to hang out with you and the rest of the guys” Guude said, internally wanting to slap himself in the face for how he had accepted the fact that he and BdoubleO would never be more than friends. “So, where are the other guys, inside where the dance is I assume?”
“Yeah, follow me, I’ll show you where everyone is!” BdoubleO said waving over his shoulder for Guude to follow him, which Guude did without hesitation. They walked through crowds of other people attending the dance before BdoubleO led him to the corner of the gymnasium-turned-dance-floor where all of their friends were mingling around and talking, with a couple of them dancing to the music.
"Hey, Guude!" Beef and Pause called out to him as they danced with each other, Pause dancing in such a silly manner that it was really him dancing and Beef laughing at his ridiculous movements and motions. Others called out their greetings as well, all of which Guude returned good-naturedly, even though his mind was elsewhere.
"Hey, I'm gonna go talk with Genny for a bit!" BdoubleO told Guude with a tap on his shoulder. "I'll see ya in a few! Maybe we can dance together as a big group to a song!" Guude's heart flipped upside down as he heard him say "maybe we can dance together", but then it plummeted to the darkest pit of his stomach as he finished the thought.
I'm just kidding myself, I'm never gonna get someone like him to dance with me, let alone be able to tell him I'm in love with him... Guude thought cynically, his shoulders slumping over as he dejectedly walked over to talk to some of the other guys.
Guude hovered at the outside of multiple different groups of his friends, listening, occasionally talking when asked something by one of the people around him, but mainly keeping to his own mind, letting the music beat rhythmically through his body as he wandered his thoughts. But after nearly half an hour of that, Guude was snapped out of it by a loud voice calling out to the group of Mindcrackers.
"Hey, Mindcrackers! Get ready, cause we're all gonna dance to this next song, okay? Throw off a shy and timid shell and just dance to your heart's content!" BdoubleO yelled above the music, and Guude heard the song begin to draw to an end, and the first few notes of the next song made him cringe.
"Oh don't you dare look back!
Just keep your eyes on me!"
Guude felt himself beginning to slip into panic as all the other guys began to excitedly dance to the catchy song now playing through the large speakers. First of all, Guude couldn't dance worth anything. He tripped over his own feet, he didn't know a single move, and he wasn't about to fall flat on his face or look like a complete moron in front of BdoubleO. But, unfortunately for him, someone had it out for him that night as he was suddenly whisked forward by BdoubleO's hand.
"Come on, Guude! You've gotta dance! Here, like this!" he told Guude, jumping up and down in time with the music and pointing his arm at Guude's chest, then he began to sing with the music.
"I said 'you're holding back'
She said 'shut up and dance with me!'
This woman is my destiny
She said "ooh-ooh-hoo,
Shut up and dance with me!'"
Guude blushed as BdoubleO sang not just to repeat the lyrics and sing to the people around them, but he was singing to Guude, or at least it was how Guude felt as the air became thicker and he was heating up as he danced with BdoubleO, although he looked like he had no feet compared to how BdoubleO was dancing, jumping and singing loudly and motioning with his arms as he sang.
Guude felt panic begin to set in again after the initial shock of being pulled along by BdoubleO. He fought against it, and after a short moment of standing still, Guude began to hesitantly dance as best he could, following along with BdoubleO.
"Hey, there ya go! You're doing great, Guude!" BdoubleO praised him, and Guude almost tripped as the compliment broke his concentration on the music, but he caught himself and remained on his feet. BdoubleO laughed as he saw Guude stumble a bit, but it wasn't a mocking laugh, more so a good-natured chuckle as he stopped and helped Guude stand back fully upright. "Don't go falling on me, though, Guude!"
He chorus came back around, and BdoubleO again looked Guude in the eyes and pointed at him, holding his other hand over his chest as he sang. This time, however, Guude didn't stop dancing along. In fact, he mirrored BdoubleO and began to sing the lyrics as well, earning him a dazzling smile from BdoubleO, who was positively shining in the lights of the dance floor.
"'Don't you dare look back
Just keep your eyes on me'
I said 'you're holding back'
She said 'shut up and dance with me!'
This woman is my destiny
She said 'ooh-ooh-hoo,
Shut up and dance with me!'"
Guude and BdoubleO were pointing at each other, grinning like mad as the music faded, both breathing heavily, their chests heaving from exertion.
"That was great, Guude!" BdoubleO said, praising Guude once again, and he blushed. "I've never seen you dance before, and you're pretty darn good, if I do say so myself!"
"T-thanks, BDubs..." Guude stuttered, his cheeks reddening even more, but the coloring was hidden by the multicolored lights shining down on the both of them. "You were a lot better than I was, though. I'm frankly surprised I didn't face plant during the song."
BdoubleO laughed heartily for a moment before he overheard his name being called from a group of people a short distance away. "Sorry, Guude. Talk with ya some more later? Oh, and save a dance for me! That was lots of fun!"
Guude's heart skipped a beat as he processed the words he'd just heard. Save a dance! Does that mean he wants to dance with me!? He couldn't possibly have liked my dancing... Who am I kidding, there's no way he'd want to dance with me... But he said... I don't know, damn it! Guude groaned slightly and he walked back over to talk with some of the guys from Mindcrack about new games for a while.
Guude was just about to tell Coe about how he'd been playing Alien: Isolation when the DJ spoke up over the mic.
"Hey, listen up everyone! We have one last dance of the night; a slow dance! Everyone grab a partner and make sure you don't miss out on the last dance of the night!" Guude's stomach turned in on itself and his mouth went dry upon hearing the news. Of all the things, it's a damn slow dance!?
"Hey, Guude! You made sure to save me that dance, right?" BdoubleO asked, smiling as he walked over to Guude. Wordlessly, Guude nodded, and BdoubleO held out his hand to him. "Great! Take my hand and let's get on out there!" Guude nervously held out his hand to BdoubleO's outstretched one and grabbed ahold of him as they walked out into the dance floor in the center of the gym.
The music started up, a slow, steady, almost relaxing pace settling over the dancers, and Guude felt himself want to lean in to rest his head against BdoubleO's chest, only at the last second realizing that he'd been about to do it, and he flinched away slightly.
"Is something wrong, Guude?" BdoubleO asked, his voice softer and more concerned than he'd heard it before that evening.
"Oh, y-yeah, just fine..." Guude told him, stumbling on his words, making BdoubleO give him a suspicious look. Guude took a look at BdoubleO, then down at their intertwined hands, and it took him a moment to register the fact that this was actually happening. He was dancing with BdoubleO, hand in hand, and BdoubleO wasn't drunk off his ass or anything else like that. He'd wanted to dance with him! Guude took a deep breath, and before he could change his mind, he began to talk.
"I, uh... BDubs, I want to tell you something..." he barely whispered, and BdoubleO gave him a questioning look. "I-i wanted to tell you something that I really should have before now, when we've been friends almost four years now, but I could just never work up the courage to before now..."
"What do you mean, Guude?" BdoubleO asked, a thoroughly puzzled look on his face as Guude gulped.
"W-what I wanted to tell you is that.... I, uh... BdoubleO, I'm in love with you..." Guude finally got out, blushing bright red and he looked away, not wanting to see BdoubleO's face of disgust at what he'd said. "I-I've had a crush on you since freshman year when you were so nice to me in our English class and you helped me so much with math and I just... I've been too nervous to say anything."
BdoubleO was silent for a minute, almost too long and Guude was seconds away from letting go of his hands and walking out of gymnasium, but BdoubleO spoke up.
"Guude... I think you're very brave for telling me. And I want to say that I really really appreciate the fact that you decided to share this dance with me, and this next thing." It was Guude's turn to be confused, as he looked back up to BdoubleO's face to see what he meant, he was met with a light touch as BdoubleO leaned in and gently planted a kiss on his lips. Guude was shocked, but he didn't flinch away or resist the kiss. Au contraire, Guude returned the kiss, parting his lips to kiss BdoubleO more deeply, and the two moved closer together until their bodies were nearly flush against each other, BdoubleO's arms wrapped around Guude's waist, and Guude's around BdoubleO's shoulders.
"I get to share a confession with you," BdoubleO said as their lips parted for air, their foreheads touching as they breathed heavily. "I'm in love with you, too, Guude." Guude's mind was still reeling from the sheer astonishment of the kiss, and all he could feel was pure joy as he grinned wider than he'd ever before, pure ecstasy lighting up his face.
"Since we have the confessions done now... Will you share this dance with me, Guude?" BdoubleO asked, but Guude's answer was clear from how they were holding each other, their heads together, their bodies so close that their chests touched when they're breathed.
"Of course I'll dance with you, BDubs. And I won't hold back this time," Guude replied, giving him a kiss of his own before they finished the dance, their eyes shining, and their smiles pure and joyous.
