OOG OTP Challenge Day 10: With Animal Ears

mindcrackloveWell, this might not have been the intention, but it's where it went. This is a RWBY-based AU, just so it makes more sense with all the talk of the half-human, half-animal Fauni (faunuses, whatever, I don't remember which is right :p) and a couple other terms. Not as shippy as some of the other days, but I still hope all you who read it will enjoy it (even if you don't necessarily like or watch RWBY)
"Man, I hate getting patrol in the forest..." BDubs complained, swinging his cane around in his hand, walking along slowly behind Guude.
"Really? I like it, it's much more relaxing than it is being at school..." Guude replied, trailing off at the end, as they both knew the reason. As much as people tried to hide their judgement of them, Guude and BDubs constantly felt like people were talking behind their backs about them being animals or lesser people or worse. Having ears of animal, among other things, didn't really make it any easier to keep the insults said behind them from being heard.
Both men were comfortable enough with their friends, but even still, being unable to go out into public without covering up their "extra features" because of the discrimination was draining.
"I still don't understand why those assholes at school give a crap what we look like. It's not like we're trying to kill them like some radical White Fang idjits or something," BDubs muttered. "I just want to be a hunter, be with you, and be on my way with how they act. Not even a chance to put in a word for ourselves."
Guude slowed down and stopped with BDubs right next to him, eyes looking into the others with a pained look. "It'll be fine, guy. We just gotta... Give it some time to let them warm up to us," he told BDubs before giving him a long hug.
"I wish you were right, Guude... I really wish it could be that way." Reluctantly, knowing they had a schedule to keep for their patrol, they went back to walking through the forest with just the sounds of the insects and animals around them. Guude's ears were twitching as he looked around, listening for anything too out of the ordinary. BDubs would have loved to help, but he really excelled at combat as opposed to searching, as Guude had much better hearing and sense of smell than he did.
"So, how about some nice time to relax once we get back to the rooms when we're done?" BDubs asked after a few minutes had gone by without anything new.
"Relax? Like, take a nap or something? Cause I'm tired as hell," Guude said, sighing as he came out from behind a bush where he'd thought he'd smelled some traces of a Grimm.
"Nah, something more along the lines of this," BDubs said, going over and kissing Guude gently on the cheek.
"Oh, that kind of relaxing. I'd sure love to see your cute tail when we do that," Guude said, making BDubs blush bright red. He always covered up his tail so that no one would ever try and pull on it or do something worse while he was in class, and he just used the excuse 'it gets in the way during combat' to try and convince Guude and his other friends that he wasn't just hiding it.
"I'm not cute!" he exclaimed, face red enough to look like the fur on his ears. "I'm manly as hell!"
"Say that all you want, cutie," Guude teased, petting BDubs head gently, an action that made BDubs extremely happy. "Wait, hold on. I think something's happening over to the north," Guude said, tensing up slightly and sniffing the air.
"Hm, what is it Guude? Grimm?" BDubs asked, now making himself more alert of his surroundings.
"Yeah, and I think it's-" Guude was cut off by the sound of people screaming, one of them very obviously being that of a woman.
"Now I definitely heard that!" BDubs said, "C'mon, let's go!" BDubs picked up his cane and ran towards the sound of the scream, Guude following right behind him.
The pair smacked their way through some bushes and saw a group of three, who could couldn't have been any older than fourteen, surrounded by several small Grimm. BDubs immediately lifted his cane and pointed the bottom of it at a Grimm, then clicked a button on its side that allowed it to switch open to its rifle form, immediately shooting off several shots at one of the beasts.
Guude wasn't far behind, immediately activating his gauntlets that not only doubled as drills, but also as high-powered Gatling guns. Guude ran up to one of the monsters, upper cutting it right in its stomach, launching it into the air, before shooting off several rounds of bullets at the airborne Grimm.
The Grimm were now alerted of their presence, and forgot about the children they were surrounding, immediately charging at Guude. Guude slammed the drill part of his gauntlet through one of their skulls, and used his other hand to slam into its side. When one of the others were about to get a jump on Guude, BDubs was right there, swinging his cane into its neck, before firing several shots at it.
Guude switched back to his Gatling guns on his gauntlets, and shot down the remaining creature of Grimm as it was about to charge at one the children. Guude and BDubs stopped and took a deep breath after defeating them, looking around to see that some of the Grimm's bodies were already evaporating.
"That was a close one" BDubs said, inhaling a deep breath. "If we would have gotten here just a bit later you kids probably wouldn't be here" BDubs said, now turning his attention to the group of young adults who were previously being attacked.
"Here, let me help you up" Guude said, extending his hand to one of them that had been knocked over in the brawl. However instead of extending his hand in return, the kid smacked Guude's hand away.
"I don't take help from people like you" the kid spat, pushing himself up and brushing some dirt off of his pants.
"The hell is that supposed to mean! We just saved your asses!" BDubs called out to the kid.
"We would have dealt with it, we don't need you disgusting animal freaks to be getting in our business!" The girl in the group said this, glaring at BDubs.
"Oh? You could have dealt with these? You want me to go round up some damn Grimm to see how well you'd deal with them?" BDubs was practically yelling now, fully entangled by the bigoted comments.
"BDubs! Stop, they're not worth you getting all upset." Guude said, placing a hand on BDubs' shoulder.
"You're damn right they're not worth it..." BDubs said in a much quieter voice, teeth gritted. BDubs shrugged off Guude's hand and began walking back the way they had came. Guude gave the children a glare that could kill before following him.
BDubs stormed through the forest, tearing through bushes and underbrush as he tried to get as far away from those kids as he possibly could.
"Those little..." he muttered, growling, showing off the razor- sharp teeth in his mouth. "That's what we get for saving their damned lives!? Nothing but ridicule and hatred!? It's not worth being some damn Good Samaritan if we're just gonna keep getting treated like we're no better than the Grimm we killed for them..."
Guude, who was trailing behind, trying to catch up to BDubs, overheard the entire tirade, his ears flattening against his head as he became more upset by the words he said.
"I wish I hadn't been so stupid to think that helping those people out was a good idea..." Guude whispered to himself, walking slowly towards the city. "I wish this wouldn't happen to us anymore... I wish we could live normal lives..."
BDubs stormed back into the room at the school later that night, arriving to a dark room. Normally Guude keeps the lights on when he takes little naps, BDubs thought, confused by the near full darkness in the room.
"Hey, Guude? Are ya here?" BDubs asked into the darkness, but didn't receive an answer. Listening carefully, he heard quiet, nearly inaudible sounds coming from Guude's bunk. He walked over to the bed, sitting on the edge of the frame and gently nudging Guude. "Hey, guy... Are you okay?"
"I... I don't want to be here..." was the reply he was given. Guude slowly sat upright. Since BDubs was a Faunus, and most Faunus' had night vision, BDubs could clearly see Guude had been crying a lot, with tears still running down his cheeks.
"Oh my gosh, Guude! Are you okay? Did you get hurt by someone?" BDubs asked him, taking on a very concerned tone. Guude leaned over and buried his face in BDubs' shoulder, hugging him tightly, and BDubs hugged him in return, rubbing Guude's back soothingly.
"I heard what you said earlier, in the forest..." Guude said, finally able to speak through the tears. "I don't want to keep making you so angry, and I-I really just want to live normal lives so you and I don't keep getting hurt by the people who hate us..."
"Oh, Guude, I'm so sorry. I was angry, I didn't mean it.. And you're not doing anything to make me angry, Guude. You're who keeps me happy and hopeful that things will be better. I won't let you get hurt any more," he said comfortingly, kissing Guude's forehead gently, and for a long time, they sat there, BDubs comforting Guude in his embrace.
Finally Guude broke the hug, and looked up into BDubs eyes, a small smile on his face, despite his eyes obviously red from crying.
"I still think you have cute ears" Guude said, giggling a bit. This small comment set off a reaction in BDubs, that caused him to just break out into laughter as well.
