OOG OTP Challenge Day 8: Shopping

mindcracklove OMG Shoes! But yes, today's theme was shopping! I hope you all enjoy it! It was lots of fun to write.
Guude had been keeping his eyes on the calendar for the last few weeks as the date of his 1-year anniversary with BdoubleO was coming up. It was a surprise to him that a year had already gone by, but looking back at all the great times he’d had with his boyfriend, he could see how that was a year’s worth of memories they’d shared.
But, he wasn’t looking at the calendar just to reminisce. He also knew he’d need to get a meaningful gift for him, and as the days grew closer to the anniversary, Guude was stressing even more as he hadn’t had any time to go looking for a gift at all. He was really cutting it a lot closer than he would’ve preferred to, but he hoped he’d just be able to find something in time.
“Hey, Boo, I’m going to go to the mall in just a second, want me to grab you anything?” Guude asked, calling out from the front hallway to his partner, who he’d last seen in the living room playing NBA2K15.
“Huh? You’re going to the mall?” BdoubleO asked, and Guude heard the game pause and footsteps beginning to head towards where he was. “Can I come with? I know you’ve been really busy this last week, but I just haven’t gotten to spend a lot of time with you. Plus, I think these shoes might’ve seen better days,” he said with a laugh, gesturing to a beat-up pair of sneakers sitting next to the door.
“Sure thing, guy!” Guude said with a smile, but inwardly he was very worried about BdoubleO coming with. What if he saw what he was getting him? It wouldn’t be much of a surprise to celebrate if he already knew, Guude thought. All he could do at this point was hope his luck was good so he wouldn’t get caught by BdoubleO when he was buying the gift, since he’d already agreed.
“Great!” BdoubleO said with a smile in return. “I’ll go grab something to wear and I’ll be down in 5.” Guude rolled his eyes a bit, knowing his boyfriend was like a woman in how long it took him to get ready.
“I don’t see anything wrong with what you’re wearing, Boo, come on. We can’t wait an hour for you to change!” Guude teased him, but BdoubleO was already on his way up the stairs.
“Too bad, I look terrible in this! Plus, I need to do my hair,” he told Guude.
“But you already did your hair this morning!” Guude exclaimed in slight disbelief. “Just try to be as quick as you can!”
Guude leaned against the door, and immediately took out his phone, ready to spend an hour scrolling through Twitter feeds and checking the Reddit. Much to Guude's surprise however, it only took BdoubleO 15 minutes, which seemed like a record for his partner.
"See, I look much better now" BdoubleO said, his hair spiked in the front from hair gel. BdoubleO was also wearing a gray jacket that Guude had only seen him wear once before, in addition to black pants, and his normal shoes.
"You look great as always" Guude said with a smile "and congrats on not taking all week this time" Guude said jokingly, earning him a half-hearted slap to the shoulder.
The two got into BdoubleO's car, BdoubleO driving as usual. It wasn't a long drive to get to the mall by any standards, however once they had gotten there, it took what seemed like forever to find a parking space, before heading inside.
"So Guude, why exactly did you want to come to the mall, I forgot to ask" BdoubleO said casually as they walked inside together. Guude immediately got nervous, not sure what to say, so he said the first thing that came to his mind.
"New shoes!" Guude said, immediately regretting his choice, as BdoubleO knew that Guude hardly ever wear footwear, and when he had to, he stuck to sandals.
"Guude, you don't wear shoes!" BdoubleO said laughing at Guude's answer. "What's really going on here?"
"Uh, um, you got me" Guude said, defeated. "I came here to buy you new shoes, as a surprise!" This wasn't at all what Guude had intended on getting BdoubleO for a gift, but now he added it to the list.
"Oh, c'mon now, you know you don't have to do that for li'l ol' me." BdoubleO said with a genuine smile.
“Why not? Now I’ll just have to surprise you with which shoe I’ll get you,” Guude told him, playing off the impromptu decision. BdoubleO just smiled and looked around at the stores they walked past. The shoe store seemed to be the place both of them needed to go, and Guude wanted to go to the jewelers to see if what he’d planned on getting would be there, but he had a feeling getting all the way to the other end of the mall, where the jewelers was located, wouldn’t be very easy when he was going to be spending time with BdoubleO at the same time.
They kept talking, deep in conversation by the time they reached the shoe store. Guude kept thinking, hoping to find himself a good reason to not be in the shoe store and go to the jewelers, then it hit him. As they passed through the door to the shoe store, Guude coughed once and began to clear his throat, stopping for a second.
“Sorry, Boo, would you mind if I go and get some water from the food court? My throat’s getting a bit dry. I’ll meet you back here by the front when you’re all done, okay?” Guude asked, but BdoubleO seemed to accept what he said.
“Of course! Go get some water, Guude. I don’t want you to be uncomfortable. I’ll meet you here in, let’s say, 20 minutes?” BdoubleO asked Guude, looking at his phone for the time.
“Sounds good!” Guude confirmed, then with a wave, turned and walked towards the food court, then slightly past towards the jewelers. Twenty minutes isn’t a lot of time… I’ll need to be quick as hell if I’m gonna get him something now, Guude told himself, hurrying his pace.
When he got to the store, he immediately went over to a clerk and asked to see what rings they had in stock with emeralds. The worker pointed towards a glass case to the right of the store, and Guude thanked him, walking over and examining all the rings. Many were silver bands with an ornate design, which Guude liked, but he didn’t think any of those fit BdoubleO very well. He kept scanning the display case, looking past silver bands, platinum bands, and golden ones, not seeing a ring that looked like something BdoubleO would wear. When he’d finally looked over the display case, he sighed in disappointment as he’d seen none that had looked very good.
Out of the corner of his eye, Guude caught sight of something green, however, so he turned to look and what he saw was perfect. A ring was on display in a separate area that was a golden band with a black finish, making it look like obsidian, the light shining off it’s metallic surface, and mounted on the band was an emerald, cut like a rectangle about the width of the band, maybe a bit longer. Guude nearly ran over to inspect it closer, and he saw the ring also had emerald-colored lines running all around the band.
This is PERFECT! Guude thought happily, rushing over to the clerk at the desk and asking about it, quickly deciding to pay for it, despite it being a bit more expensive than some others, and received the ring, packaged up in a small case that Guude tucked away in his pocket.
Guude then checked his Apple watch and saw that it was the exact time that BdoubleO wanted to meet up with him. Oh crap, I gotta get going Guude thought to himself, before speed walking out of the jewelry store and back to the front of the shoe store, where BdoubleO was holding a box of shoes in one arm, and checking his phone with his other hand.
"Hey Boo, sorry I'm a bit late, the line was crazy, even though I was just getting water and all" Guude said a bit nervous, hoping BdoubleO wouldn't question him any further.
"Oh, hey Guude. It's totally fine, I didn't even realize you were late to be honest" BdoubleO said, laughing a bit, causing Guude to ease up a bit as well. "Anyways, I guess since you're buying me some super secret shoes, I should probably go somewhere else, as not to be spoiled" BdoubleO said with a teasing smile.
"Huh? Oh, right, shoes. Silly me, how could I forget what I came here for" Guude said before laughing nervously, and internally calling himself an idiot, in addition to some more colorful words as well. BdoubleO either didn't seem to notice Guude's slip up, or wasn't phased by it.
"Yep, so you go get those shoes, and I'm gonna go see if they've got any good shirts I might want" BdoubleO said, which made Guude roll his eyes, knowing BdoubleO already had too many shirts as it was.
"Alright, you go do that" Guude said dismissively, BdoubleO left to go check out shirts, and Guude walked into the shoe store. Here he didn't spend nearly as much time looking at what was for sale as he did for the rings. In just few moments Guude had decided on a pair of fancy looking black shoes with a light green accent. Guude paid for the shoes, then waited for BdoubleO by the entrance, once again going on his phone to let time pass.
It was about ten minutes later when BdoubleO returned, with his shoe box in his arms, and to Guude's surprise, no shirts.
"Wow, no shirts? You always buy new clothes when we come to the mall" Guude said, more of an observation than anything else.
"Eh, nothing I really liked there. Y'ready to get back home?" Bdouble asked. Guude was still surprised he didn't buy anything, but he found it better not to question further.
"If you can remember where we parked" Guude said jokingly.
They found the car quickly enough, despite what Guude had said, driving back home and taking what they’d gotten inside and teasingly had kept the other’s wandering eyes off of each other’s gifts. Guude went into their bedroom and put the shoebox beneath the bed, placing the ring’s box inside the sole of one of the shoes, then closing the box. He assumed that BdoubleO was doing the same, so he went into the kitchen for a quick snack, then spent the rest of the evening with his partner.
Despite Guude’s nervousness, the next few days leading up to their anniversary went by very quickly, and when Guude woke up the morning of, he quickly realized that BdoubleO wasn’t in bed still, which was odd since BdoubleO always slept late, even on days he had to go to work (which often resulted in Guude forcing him to wake up after multiple alarms had failed to). He quickly changed out of his nightclothes and grabbed the shoebox out from under the bed, hiding it behind his back. He was glad he’d had the sense to realize he should wrap it the night before, as just clearly showing the gift that was meant to be a surprise would be a bit counter-intuitive.
Walking down the stairs slowly, Guude made his way to the living room, where BdoubleO was sitting, watching something on the TV that Guude felt like he’d heard before, or at the very least recognized BdoubleO’s voice.
“Hey, Boo,” he said when he walked into the room, glancing at the TV, then feeling a wave of emotion wash over him as he realized what BdoubleO had been watching. The TV screen showed a paused video of the night that Guude and BdoubleO had first begun dating, as one of their friends, probably Chad, had been recording the event they had been at. Guude looked at BdoubleO with a look of disbelief, then walked over to the couch where BdoubleO sat, hugging him tightly, burying his head in BdoubleO’s chest.
“I just wanted to remember how everything got started, and now that you’re here, I get to see how everything’s become over the past year,” BdoubleO said, explaining the question Guude had without him even asking it.
“I.. I don’t know what to say,” Guude said, his head still buried in BdoubleO’s chest, as BdoubleO began to rub his back comfortingly.
“How about ‘you’re adorable’?” BdoubleO asked, grinning stupidly as Guude looked up at him and started giggling. “Now, how about I give you a little something?” he asked as he produced a wrapped box from behind him, offering it to Guude.
"What's this?" Guude asked with a giggle, taking the box from BdoubleO.
"Why don't you open it and find out?" BdoubleO said, returning Guude's smile with one of his own. Guude very carefully unwrapped the box, only to find a shoe box beneath the wrapping. He gave BdoubleO a bit of a confused look before opening the shoebox, and seeing a pair of brown loafers.
"Uh, thanks guy, but, you know I don't wear shoes" Guude said before laughing a bit.
"I know, I know, those were just a bit of joke on part. I've got your actual gift right here." BdoubleO said, reaching into his pocket and producing a small ring box. "So, I've got a bit of a confession to make Guude. When we went shopping, and I said I was going for a t-shirt, I was actually going to buy you this" Bdouble opened up the ring box, revealing a ring. It was a ring with a platinum band with a golden stripe in the center, almost like it had been made by putting two layers of platinum over the gold center. On the top, Guude saw the stone was a clear circular gem, but it was placed in the center of a vinyl record, with the innermost portions of the record colored golden, as if to resemble the Minecraft record with similar golden rings in the middle.
"Oh my gosh, Boo... It's... Perfect. It has my record and everything!" Guude said excited, beginning to tear up from joy. Guude then hugged BdoubleO tightly, crying from how happy BdoubleO was making him in this moment.
"Here, let me help you with that" BdoubleO took Guude's left hand with a smile, and slipped the ring on to his ring finger.
"Here, now I have a gift for you too!" Guude said, after wiping away some of the tears that were lingering on his cheeks. Guude then picked up his wrapped present, that he had previously placed by the couch upon entry to the living room. He handed it to BdoubleO, who also unwrapped the gift with care. Eventually he opened the shoe box, and saw the shoes Guude had bought him.
"Aw, Guude, thank you!" BdoubleO said with a smile, hugging Guude as well.
"It's really no big deal guy, here, try 'em on" Guude responded. BdoubleO then slipped off the slippers that he had been wearing, and had started putting his left foot into the shoe, when his toe hit something.
"Huh? There's something in here..." BdoubleO expressed his confusion.
"You didn't think I only got you a pair of shoes for our 1 year, did you?" Guude said with a proud smile, though still a hint of tears in his eyes. BdoubleO slipped the shoe off and put his hand in, pulling out a ring box similar to the one he had given Guude.
"Oh, Guude..." BdoubleO said, an extremely wide smile beginning to form on his face, and now BdoubleO also showed signs of beginning to tear up. BdoubleO opened up the ring box, and saw the ring that Guude had bought him. Repeating the process of hugging Guude, and allowing the other man to slip the ring onto his finger.
"Guude, this ring is amazing," BdoubleO said, wiping away a tear that was beginning to run down his cheek. "Thank you so much for being here with me right now. It means the world."
"I wouldn't have you anywhere but right here with me, now or ever," Guude replied, wiping another tear of the other man's cheek, making them both giggle a bit before Guude snuggled in close to BdoubleO, resting his head on the other's shoulder as BdoubleO turned on the video again, and they spent a good hour together just sitting on the couch, watching how they got together.
And after a year, both were satisfied with how their relationship had gone.

Guude then picked up his wrapped present, that he had previously placed by the couch upon entry to the living room. He handed it to BdoubleO, who also unwrapped the gift with care. Eventually he opened the shoe box, and saw the shoes Guude had bought him.
"Aw, Guude, thank you!" BdoubleO said with a smile, hugging Guude as well.
"It's really no big deal guy, here, try 'em on" Guude responded. BdoubleO then slipped off the slippers that he had been wearing, and had started putting his left foot into the shoe, when his toe hit something.
"Huh? There's something in here..." BdoubleO expressed his confusion.
"You didn't think I only got you a pair of shoes for our 1 year, did you?" Guude said with a proud smile, though still a hint of tears in his eyes. BdoubleO slipped the shoe off and put his hand in, pulling out a ring box similar to the one he had given Guude.
"Oh, Guude..." BdoubleO said, an extremely wide smile beginning to form on his face, and now BdoubleO also showed signs of beginning to tear up. BdoubleO opened up the ring box, and saw the ring that Guude had bought him. Repeating the process of hugging Guude, and allowing the other man to slip the ring onto his finger.
"Guude, this ring is amazing," BdoubleO said, wiping away a tear that was beginning to run down his cheek. "Thank you so much for being here with me right now. It means the world."
"I wouldn't have you anywhere but right here with me, now or ever," Guude replied, wiping another tear of the other man's cheek, making them both giggle a bit before Guude snuggled in close to BdoubleO, resting his head on the other's shoulder as BdoubleO turned on the video again, and they spent a good hour together just sitting on the couch, watching how they got together.
And after a year, both were satisfied with how their relationship had gone.
