Power Down Chapter 1: Meet the Vetches

I just started typing this up and the words just kind of showed up. This chapter sort of created itself. It's pretty late at night where I live, so I apologize for any mistakes I may have not seen when proofreading.
This chapter might be a bit text heavy for some. The whole story won't be like that, I promise. The first 2 chapters will just be explaining some things present in their universe.
Without further chatter, here's chapter 1!
"Hey you! Yea, you! Get up!"
That was the sound Vechs woke up to this morning. Usually, he liked to sleep in. This morning, however...
Vechs bolted out of bed, just remembering what day it was. He quickly glanced over at the clock. He sighed in relief as the display read 9:00. He needed to be to the Town Hall by 9:30, and the trip to the Town Hall was a short one thanks to his teleportation device.
The teleportation device was set so that no matter where Vechs was, he would always teleport to the Town Hall. This would be rather useful for their mission.
While he didn't know exactly what he was chosen for, he knew it had something to do with the fact that the Mindcracker's energy sources were dwindling. This was partially induced by Vechs' own SmartHome, a voice controlled system that had your home do the work while you got ready. Speaking of which...
"SmartHome, make some coffee and open the gadget room. Pack all the gadgets into a shrinkbag."
The shrinkbag, one of EthoCorp's creations, made any item that was put into the bag shrink to an incredibly small size. You could tell the bag what you wanted to pull out of the bag, and it would give it to you. It was incredibly cool. Vechs had modified his into a toolbelt.
"Ok, Vechs."
Vechs opened his closet and got out another shrinkbag, which he had packed with plenty of supplies and pairs of clothing a couple of nights before. He would put it into his toolbelt later.
Out of his closet Vechs pulled out his most genius invention yet, FWAPA.
FWAPA stood for Faultless Warp And Positioning Analyzer. It looked like a pair of dark green goggles, but it could do a lot more than that. It was paired with his teleportation device, so he could pinpoint the exact location he was teleporting to. It could also tell where he was in accordance to his house and the Town Hall. Also, among many other awesome things, it could shoot lasers! How cool was that!
Vechs put the awesome goggles on and was greeted with the HUD. It was the perfect combination of informative and not intrusive. It was paired with the SmartHome, and could also read his thoughts. Oh yea, and there was another awesome feature.
"Hello, Vechs."
It could talk.
"Hey, FWAPA. Ready for the big day?"
"How could I not be? I'm a computer, remember?"
Vechs sighed. "Just trying to make conversation."
"Well, you have 15 minutes to get there."
"What? How did time go by that fast?"
"You must have been doing a lot of double checking."
"That I did. Let's get going."
FWAPA sighed. "You say it as if I have a choice."
Rolling his eyes at the melancholy computer, Vechs went downstairs to get the portable teleportation device ready and had some breakfast. The smart home had placed his toolbelt next to his cup of coffee. Downing his cup of coffee and a peanut cheese bar quickly, he went outside to prepare the teleportation device.

Once he had gotten to the front of his modest brick home, Vechs readied the teleportation device, which was able to fit on his wrist like a watch. The teleportation device worked like a speed multiplier. The faster you ran, the faster you would be teleported. The accelerator would multiply your speed, then open a portal type thing that took you to the place you wanted to go. All you had to do to power the teleportation device was run. However, it wasn't for sale yet. It was a relatively new invention, and still needed to be thoroughly tested.
Vechs began running. 'Well, I hope this works.' He thought to himself as he got a running start. The blue portal appeared in front of him, and he was off to the town hall.
I think I'll take a break there! Few things I wanted to mention:
1. I didn't explain the SmartHome in great detail because it's not going to be used very much during the story. It might get mentioned a few times, but that's it.
2. I'm not sure how a chapter posting schedule will be. I don't post regularly because it doesn't feel fun to me if I'm on a tight schedule.
3. This isn't quite a full chapter. They won't start exploring until about chapter 3. The next chapter will them all meeting each other.
4. I'm not sure about 'shipping' Vechs and Aureylian. I just plan on them being friends. This isn't to say it won't happen. If I have some inspiration, or if you guys want me to, then I will.
5. See if you can catch all of the references! I put 2 in there. Both are a bit hard to spot. Good luck!
