San Francisco. Ever since she was little, Aureylian dreamed of San Francisco. The winding roads, the tall hills, the fog curling around the Golden Gate Bridge. All it had taken was a trip one year with her parents and she was done for.
And she was finally here.
"Grab the last box, will ya?" Sevadus whined, arms wobbling with the weight of the clearly heavy box, which was marked as 'Books'.
"Sure, yeah, sorry! I just..."
"Yeah yeah, 'can't believe we're finally here', you said it a million times!"
Aureylian nodded, whimsical smile still wide on her face. She grabbed a box marked 'Fragile: Plates and Bowls' from the trunk of Sevadus' car and walked into their new building.
The landlord sat behind the doorman's desk nodded at them. Guude Boulderfist was his name, they had just met him this morning when the pair had just gotten into town. He had helped them move a little bit but Sevadus told him that they could finish it off.
"That the last of them?" Guude asked, twirling a pen absentmindedly through his fingers.
"Yep."
"Great! Go move your car to the garage down the street before you get towed, I'll give you your spot number when you come back down."
Sev nodded and stepped into the elevator after Aurey. Their apartment was on the fourth floor and Sevadus hit the appropriate button, sighing with relief.
"I'm so glad this is the last of it."
"Yeah! How about we grab some lunch before we start unpacking?" Aurey grinned, shifting the box in her hands
"Sounds good to me, I'll park the car first and we'll walk to that place we saw down the street."
They didn't speak for the rest of the short elevator ride. They really didn't need to, both content to stay in silence. A ding filled the comfortable silence and the elevator doors opened.
Their door was open still, propped by another box of books. Perhaps it wasn't too smart of them to leave their apartment wide open but neither really thought of the worst possibility, too distracted to care. Nothing was taken when they walked inside, the place just how they left it. Later, both would realize that it was with a stroke of luck and perhaps the good graces of their neighbors.
"I'm going to go park, I'll be right back up."
Aureylian nodded and turned to face their new apartment. It was only one bedroom but they had taken that into consideration and decided that they didn't really mind. The bedroom was down a small hall, a bathroom with a tub shower across the way. The main room was just that, a main room. Their couch was already set up, it's back to the small kitchen. There wasn't a washer/dryer in the apartment, but there was a room down in the basement for it as well as a Laundromat down the street.
She sighed happily, spinning in lazy circles to watch her white dress float around her legs before settling on the couch. A sudden chuckle and a knock made her jump.
"Hi, welcome to the building."
Aureylian looked up to see just who the voice had come from. He was pretty cute, that was the first thing she noticed about him, with a half sweet half dangerous smile and blond hair. The next thing she noticed was his eyes, dark brown.
"Hey! I'm Aureylian and Sevadus, my roommate, is downstairs parking his car. Nice to meet you." She smiled, standing up to shake his hand.
One of his hands was oddly behind his back, she noticed, and grew concerned. The concern quickly faded when he pulled out a blush pink rose and giving it to her after she shook his hand. The petals were soft and vibrant, the green stalk full of life. The thorns were cut off as well, the man was careful enough not to hurt anyone with his flowers.
"I'm BTC. I live above you and to the right I think, you're 4d, right?"
"Yep, 4d."
"Oh...oh man, that kinda sucks that you live right below Nebris..."
"Hm? What's wrong with Nebris?"
BTC chuckled, crossing his arms.
"He and his...enemy Etho...stay up pretty late sometimes."
"...Oh. Oh that does suck."
"It's not too often but the entire building knows when it does."
Sevadus took this moment to walk in. He glanced at the rose in her hand, at the man standing before her, and smirked wide.
"...Hey. 'M Sevadus, what's your name?"
"BTC, welcome to the building."
"I see you've already met Aureylian."
Aureylian blushed, glaring at Sev.
"Sev...come on, I thought we were going to go to lunch."
"Oh we were. BTC, care to join us?"
"I'd love to but I've got to get back. Oh! Before I go, be kinda...careful about the guy who lives next door to you. He's...an odd one. His name is Vechs."
"Thanks for the warning, it was good to meet you." Aureylian smiled.
BTC repeated her sentiment, shook hands with both of them, and walked out.
"So...he was cute!"
"Don't talk to me, Sev." Despite her words, the smile didn't leave her face.
The rose went behind her ear, tucked nicely among the curls of red. She admired it with her compact mirror and turned to Sevadus, who gave the thumbs up.
"Shall we go?"
"Lets."
They walked out and Sevadus locked the door before they linked arms and headed out towards the elevator. They had a ton of things to unpack but, right now, all that mattered was sandwiches at the corner Deli.
They had plenty of time to do it later anyways.
